Thanks for the Info Nick. Ive planted a blueberry bush this spring 2024 and it appears to have taken in the soil rather well - had plenty of growth and leaves, but hardly a handful of blueberries this 1st summer. I do know my soil isnt acid enough, and will correct this in the autumn and spring 2025. Ive lost the label telling me what variety it was, and was going to add another bush to help with cross polination - is this going to be a problem taking a guess at what variety next bush to buy ? should I take them out of the plot and put them in large pots also ?
The first branch you cut was a mistake...never cut those main branches on blueberries...you also cut another large green branch on the side... Unnecessary waste...
When is the best time of year/season to prune the branches.? In Australia we are in Autumn (Fall), and my husband pruned my blueberries tree/ bush just to the main trunks. And now I’m panicking, and with great anticipations, I’m waiting to see if that was a good choice.
Hi. You normally cut back blueberries in the winter when the bush is dormant. I’d say if he’s cut the branches back to the main trunk then you’ll not get any fruit next year. New growth will appear in spring but that won’t fruit until the following summer. Sorry for the bad news. Take care. Nick
First time having an allotment looked at many pages and sites but found your channel very easy to follow step by step guide thankyou so much subscribed
Got my pruning all wrong this year. Butchered it at the wrong time. So need to wait for leaves to drop, clear them out, cut away twigs. Oh boy I got it so wrong. What time of year was this carried out.
I found this in 2023, end of summer, wondering at my lack of knowledge on the blueberry bush I bought. This was a perfect video to get started. 8 minutes for a brief foundation for pruning. Kudos, good sir.
I have been battling this terrible weed in my yard in Colorado for years. Since it was about 4 years ago that you dug out the roots have you managed to get it under control
@@NicksAllotmentDiary Thank you for your feed back. Meanwhile, I started a trial with 2 cuttings dipped into water since I just have a small and a young bush of Blueberry at the present time. Maybe I'll add some drops of vinegar to it? Have a nice week-end.
Oh my I had to re sub to your channel, not sure why so many of my subs disappear off my list. As soon as I ponder over why a fave subscriber is not posting I go and look for them inside of my sub page and find they are gone. You've been re added and hope you stick around this time my dear friend. I'll try and lasso you this time. Loved the list of what you can sow in Feb. I hope you and your family have been well . Take care from Laura in Canada
Thanks Laura.Don’t know why RU-vid does that. I’m glad you have subscribed. You were my first subscriber. Thanks for your continued support☺️. Take care. Nick
@@NicksAllotmentDiary Indeed, I remember you telling me that when you first started on RU-vid as a creator, and you have always been my number one favorite creator since then. We all come and go through the years but sometimes on rare occasions we develop a comradery that is deemed special . I'm looking at the sunflowers you sent to me years ago and each morning I wake to their smiling sunflower faces. What a brilliant way to begin ones morning for me especially during the past three years.. Take care dearest friend
Wishing you all the best for the growing season. You have some nice varieties, you'll have to show us those brussels when you pick'em, see if they are as good as mine 😄🍺
@Nick's Allotment Diary looking forward to it. I'm doing a biggest swede challenge if you're up for a bit of fun. Are you attending malvern spring ? Sunday ?
Time I popped a few seeds off. 3 pepper plants I saved last year are going well inside. When is good to risk popping into my greenhouse or tunnels? As would be a shame to lose them now. 20mm thick at base 🤗
Hi Depends on night time temperatures. Peppers prefer temperatures of about 10C or more. I’d not put them into a greenhouse until about late April or early May unless you can heat the greenhouse at night. Take care. Nick
