I think this may have been 1 of 1 or 1 of 5 etc. I don't know if they even offer this anymore. Kinda stopped paying attention to the Honda stuff once I got rid of this and sold the car. But yeah there was room for improvement. I think they cast their own head now if I'm not mistaken.
It is bonkers how much these have skyrocketed in price it seems like everything is crazy expensive but then again I'm from California where everything is expensive 🙃
I have decided I'm gonna get a 9th gen Si myself. I get it that ppl say the 8th gen is better as far as modding but I'm not a teenager who wants to race all the time. I'm a father and this will be my daily driver as well. I don't want an obnoxious sounding car that's gonna beat me up when I drive it. So hard to find an 8th gen that's not all modded out or beat to hell. That's why I'm gonna just get a 9th gen. Can't wait til I get mine.
They're good cars. I love the car I have now, but the Civic checks a lot of boxes. I am glad to have had one and to have experienced a Civic Si. Hope my recap on owning one helped out somehow. Good luck with yours!
The 8th gen sedan especially the 09/11 looks good the 8th gen coupe looks ok but I will agree about the interior 9th gen looks wayyyyy better on the inside especially with features as far as looks go stock for stock yes the 9th looks a bit better but that k20 just hits so hard much respect to the k24 but that 8000+ redline and that vtec kick makes up for it I own a 11 si sedan and a 14/15 will definitely be my next car
Yeah. I'd much rather daily drive and live in this car than the 8th. I value the connected car feel a lot but there's a place for some of those gadgets/phone connectivity/comfort details as well. It's a balance. The 8th definitely had the better cylinder head, but the lack of torque in that 2 liter is just not super practical if that makes sense. That k20 head k24 bottom end makes a lot of sense for these cars.
I have a k24z3, I wonder if I can do d same and get some more power myself? Similar head i believe exhaust manifold looks d same, is it one intake one 3 lobe cam?
I have this same set up with k24z7 bottom with the lower block girdle form tsx because different oil filter location and for the PRB oil pump swap with a PRB head swap k20a2-z1 head swap on 07 8th gen rbc cams made 304whp and 211wtq on pump 93 gas all oem rbc intake manifold with Dc5 type R throttle body 65mm rdx410 injectors set @70lbs fuel pressure witch make them 570cc 4-1 race head 3inc str8 SS pipe to vibrant 3in muffler has 6sp lsd with 4.3 final drive. 4.7 with k24 is too short and it seems to run out of gear when my rev limit is @8500 it’s already time to shift, with the 4.3 gives a little more of a stretch of the gear before I’m having to shift..but this set up has lasted me 6+ years now it’s currently out ju car for a refresh.doing head gasket, new valve seal, lapping all valve for fresh vale seat seal.new timing chain all chain guides and tensioner..the best Ultimate Frankenstein OEM build set up 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾🔥🔥🔥👌🏾
Yeah for NA power on your k24z7 bottom end would have been getting the PRB head swap from the 02-06 rsx type s or even with the k20z3 RBC head swap off the 8th gen si.All oem tuned with head swap will easily see 300whp with around 200-210wtqhp
Very forgiving platform to learn on. I had one for a year, and I had plans for it. But I opted to get it out of my way, get the cash and just focus on my Firebird. I really can't justify having my new car, 8th Gen and my old Firebird with just a single door, 400 SQ ft garage for a workspace. The 8th Gen had LSD etc, so it's just a great way to go. I do think my 9th Gen SI Sedan was a better, more modern looking car, but that's all preference obviously.
subbed for results and to inspire, im considering tsx swapping my 07 accord with 6 speed, or a closed deck shortblock and 6 speed swap my 08 legacy gt. quite the price difference but the subie has all supporting mods already but love the honda so much!!! lol
I have a white civic si fg4. Daily driver with flashpro, skunk2 Cai, megapower rr exhaust is getting installed today. I've owned the car for about a year, 50k miles. The base maps running hella rich. After I get a downpipe time for a tune.
It's super simple to tune for mass air flow. There's nothing to it. Mass air flow voltage table is easy to change once you start data logging the closed loop corrections. The closed loop correction percentage mapped against RPM and mass air flow voltage makes working the table super easy. I had a skunk2 Cai and an rv6 catted downpipe, so if you need a tune for that combination, I could send it your way.
Niiice Vid i just get mine 2 days ago.. 13' with 120k miles on it. Pick in NJ and drive all the way to FL 1000 miles. Humble looks and Fun to Drive*. I had a TSX (2004) 6speed for almost 4 years and currently drive Subaru 2.5i wagon 5speed.. this Si thing its just different in his class.. but yeah i almost go for a 2011 Si... the Rest is history
It will run forever. I had an opportunity to sell mine for a good amount of money during this used car crunch, so I made the move. The new car I got was selling for what they always sell for, so it was a good excuse to just do it.
Envy anyone who gets a box from 4Piston. You complained about price for a second but redeemed with the R&D comment, haha. That's wine taste in Honda power, get the beer money together ... :P
There’s like 2-3 options now skunk 2 , and 4 piston racing for sure make some, probably gonna cam my tsx and use 4 pistons ported head whenever I go to replace my vtc gear, I’m starting to get the dreaded k24z7/3 cold start grind and I figure if I’m gonna be digging in and replacing shit I’d rather it just all be new stuff incase there’s damage on any of the valve train from the grinding new head, valves and stage 2 cameras
I plan to make a video about that when it gets here. Like I said, there's so much good about this platform. If I had a son who wanted a fun first car, this would be what I would do! That's not downplaying the performance of the car at all, but I think it's a really good car to experience for a period of time because it's got such a good balance of handling and acceleration. The transmission is awesome. The engine is reliable. Interior is nice etc, and it's just a great platform to just ring out without going to jail. I'll chat more on a subsequent video. Thanks for the comment!
I hadn't planned on doing the pump swap, but I know it frees up a fair amount of power. It's tempting but wow is it expensive for what it is. My old job, COMP Cams is regrinding my old camshafts for me. If it's something folks are interested in, COMP has lobes developed specifically for regrinding these stock camshafts. I can post the specs if you'd like.
@@Anastasiofan what are the regrind specs? If i may ask.. I wanna regrind my k24z3 stock cams and you probably know its a pain in the butt to find camshafts for the k24z motors.
@@Bboyadvice96 Contact Amick@compcams.com - Our head valvetrain engineer developed these lobes for me. It will just be a re-grind of the stock camshafts - added duration and lift, better lobe profile.
@@Bboyadvice96 There's a thread on 9thgencivic forum that deals with this entire cylinder head topic. I posted the factory cam specs and the regrind specs. You're welcome!
@@looselipssinkships6543 oh, nahh. I'm saying, the head package, with a ported and polished RBC , and a 3" catless DP, and dyno tuned he'd be around the 240whp mark. I agree with you on that. K24 bottom with K20 head is the way to go on an all motor setup. He said it was for fun though, so 🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@ericmoney9734 we will definitely see what happens! Lol. Y'all don't get too eager. I have to schedule an appointment with the tuner from m-f six to eight weeks out, and my first paid time off for my newish job is in May. I do think 240 whp is low, but you could very well be right!
I have a few extra parts to order, but I'm going to try to get this installed within the next month. Seriously not looking forward to removing the downpipe. However I got a really good deal on some inline Pro studs from a forum member, so that helped a lot. Quick note when you're installing the cam tower, to make sure you index the rocker arms when you're putting the bolts through.
@@Anastasiofan We dropped the subframe to do the DP and it was a breeze. The homie that helped said that he wished he'd done his like that. After we dropped the subframe to do his clutch, we realized that it's really not that bad, and gives you a ton of space to work.
Yeah, it's been a while since i did this, and I have since sold the car and moved on, however, there was a notable sound from the accessory drive system making its way into the cabin. While the video notes a 'wobble' I understand that the wobble could very well be due to the spring action of the tensioner. However, I feel that there was a bearing/needle bearing in the assembly that was absolutely screaming. I don't ever remember reading anyone else complaining about this, but it definitely was an issue for me. I'll caution you with this: on Volvos with this style tensioner/T5 engine, for whatever reason, Volvo decided to make the fitting that allows you release tension for installing the belt a female Torx.... **Sigh**. Even with quality bits and ratchet/3/8" drive breaker bar, I almost stripped the female hex of the tensioner just trying to alleviate the tensioner for installing the belt. This car was fun while I had it, but there is a lot to be said with a newer fun car that doesn't require me to wrench on it against my will regularly.
Beautiful car. You could take it to the next step with a little panel alignment. I know they were terrible from the factory on those cars but this would go a long way.
Ragin Reggin you are absolutely right. I wish I knew more about body work. I have no problem climbing under it and going to town with an angle grinder and then painting but I've always shyed away from actual body work. The doors have always had an issue. The guy who painted the car still couldn't get rid of the sag with a new pin and bushing kit. Maybe it was a cheesy brand kit, wouldn't think that mattered but who knows. I appreciate your comment and sometime I'll try to work on the panels. I'm a lot more willing to try stuff like that than the time when I put together this video. Also keep in mind the car is heading a very different direction from what it looks like in the video.
Kevin great vid....I have owned several Camaros...and firebird of that generation (1970-1981)...and even a Can-Am.....Pontiac used several different types of reverse hood scoops....with the first ones being fully functional via a trap door air gate....the Can-am for 77 only got a Trans-am hood scoop as did the one year only 74 GTO....early Formula got Ram-Air....but by 1976 the twin scoops were just ornamental...77-81 Formula used the same hood.....the rarest formulas to find are 4 speed cars...or factory 4 wheel disc brake formulas.....The Holy Grail of Formulas would be the extremely rare 79-81 Turbo formulas.....I like the formula because it's not a Trans Am.....though a smart buyer could order up just about every option a Trans-Am had....This car is a nice car.....though I like the Pontiac rolling stock wheels better....its just my preference.....great job...
You are so correct on the formulas. I currently own a 1997 WS6 formula with the LT1 and 6 speed. It has functional RA hood and 17" factory wheels. I think around 600 made. I know the value of 4th gen have bottomed out but I think I will hang on to this one for a few years and see what the market does.
The market will never be kind to a LT-1 f -body....though being a 6 speed will keep it above water....to some degree. ...another thing that killed that generation was build quality and that...im driving a tank feeling with the ride.....additionally and much later the cheerleader V6 camaros... firebirds ...mustangs ....challengers....being 300 horsepower. ...with better gas mileage per gallon. ....
Great video. I live in the northwest corner of Alabama and I've been a Pontiac guy since I was a kid in the 1970's. I've got two now a 79 T/A ,67 Firebird. Enjoyed the video.
fieredup stang if I were to do it all over I would go with something from painless or a complete American auto wire setup. However I used M and H or wiring harness dot com. They reproduce factory harnesses as they have the schematics from gm etc. It's cool to be able to plug and play but if you're skilled at wiring or are willing to learn look at Tony candelas book on wiring and check out a factory update kit that had provisions for all the factory stuff with modern blade fuses and upgrades already present for stuff like Power window relays etc.
Thanks! I love how your car turned out!!! I bought mine for $300 from my neighbor, he used it as a parts car for his 69 bird, it is missing soooooo many bolts! But it was a steal!
Hey Mauser, sorry for the late reply. I am in Memphis, Tn. If you are looking for a Pontiac engine, let me know. I am considering selling mine. Good luck with your build. I've got plenty of parts that you may or may not be interested in. Freshly rebuilt TH-350 and 400 Pontiac. Thanks, Kevin
