This is a diary of my journey into bushcraft over the coming months. Follow and learn with me as I try out new skills that one day I can eventually pass on and be an inspiration to my son. I will be trying everything from firelighting, solo trips, camping, spoon carving, leather craft, knife sharpening, camp building, tarp use, cooking, shooting, hunting, etc... Please join me as I try to learn these skills and share any tips & experiences that may help.

A Note: Paracord strands are rated for 50lbs and the sheath is rated for 200lbs (50X7 strands + 200 sheath = 550lbs) A Tip: Cutting the leather cordage at an angle making a tip will make it easier to thread :)

What my question was is can you take the empty hull with the live primer and fire it in the shotgun to use as a spark generator to ignite the gunpowder on the ground?

The little DIY fuel tablet explained on youtube made from little tuna tin or similar and corrugated cardboard and wax possibly with some fine sawdust is useful in comparison for boiling water in about half the time of stick fuel.........with only problem being the soot on the bottom of the saucepan or cup.....

that video would have helped a lot of people too very quickly have such a crucial survival skill...........for various events.......if the world goes bad and gets really rough with no power grids and all the other events associated with that you can still have Hygienic clean water for washing and hygiene events.....with nothing more than dry sticks!!....no shops too rely upon that may have shut from a Pandemic Virus...or bomb scare death threat WE even had terrorist style Lunatics here at Coast breaking in to local electric barbecues and wiring the plates up too ELECTROCUTE members of the unsuspecting public...........just trying too cook some food for themselves!.....and the constant vandalism of the other public facilities too make the public miserable.....was never ending!!.....so well done you just saved a lot of people from sad sack existence.....no need too be depressed from what others may have done.

Where do you get your tools, can you explain which ones you use for each stage? I have two Finnish knives and used to buy lots of spoons like this in the Finnish markets although they are harder to come by now so I'd love to learn to make one myself. Great video! was inspiring

I started carving spoons several months ago and you are right, it is very therapeutic. I too have progressed quickly in the quality of my work, but I think you have done exceptionally well in your refinement of your work. How is that thin spoon holding up? I have started adding spatulas to my repertoire. I used to be a potter and it is interesting how everyone develops their own style with every form of art.

it is totally illegal to camp in those woods, don't forget 95% of the UK's woods etc are privately own, its not like the US where u can camp where u like. you if found would get prosecuted and end up with a criminal record. there is hardly anywhere now in the UK you can camp out wild, virtually no places left

Have you tried putting feet on the cans? Maybe put some chicken as a base 1.5 inches above the base. It sucks in more air and heat doesn't get transferred to the ground.

A great video here Jim, i have been honing my bushcraft and general outdoor skills for years and what I particularly like about you and this video is the honesty, the observations you make using a common sense approach to improving things such as the cordage adjustments needed on your Tarp. In my opinion theres often too much snobbery in the bushcraft arena rather than people being really honest with one another which again stands out here Jim and certainly helps those who are starting out to learn quickly and a use common sense approach. This is what sharing content is all about. A mate of mine recommended I check out this video and I gotta say I am really pleased I did. Good on you mate, keep doing what your doing and enjoy many year to come in the great outdoors. You have my like and subscription ✊️♠️

...8:57 mark....yahhh...I was dying to speak up...Everybody is spending an hour or 2 making these "rocket" stoves...."hobo" stoves...when Weber makes these commercial....charcoal lighting chimney stoves for $10.99....to $15.99.....to $23.99....whatever size you want....shipped to your door by Amazon in the States...I got one in my garage from 2 years ago I bought for $16.00......yet people are killing themselves making Green Bean can hobo stoves that are out- bested by these already made stoves....!!!!....wtf.....The advantage to using it to light the Bar- B- Q is that you don't have to use lighter fluid which sometimes gives an after- taste.....I have had after- taste with hamburgers, so this was a vast improvement...

To cook on this device, the same result as the fire of Dakota. This is a smoky teapot. For yourself, look at this: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yV0J2bhNcRs.html

Good ideas. Nearly bought the BBQ lighter myself as they are such a bargain. I want a biomass stove with a grill so I can have food grilled in wood smoke/with wood but they are about 140 in total which is a lot to justify 🤔

Waxed thread is so cheap, why tear up paracord? I use artificial waxed sinew, and saddle stitches for my pouches....this is weak and will come apart very easily...

I got a BBQ chimney with the intention of doing the same. Mine has a grill inside instead of just a metal bit with holes so you might even be about to do small bits of meat on it. I agree it's actual intended purpose seems incredibly silly.

Good for you doing the over-nighter in January. The bitter cold and lack of many resources found easily in summer definitely makes it less like a pleasant camping excursion for me.

i thought that video was brilliant. i 'restored' an axe i'd used and abused for 5 years in the last few days. not anywhere near that level. thanks for showing me what can be done with an angle grinder mate - didn't realise that at all!! great work.
