The matrix triology worked without thinking about each entities real world counterpart, but in the fourth one the in universe plot is irellevant to understanding the film

Pretty good action fare however it’s not without its faults. The script wasn’t as smart as past films in the series. It just felt a little too fantastical reaching to appeal to a younger hyper intensive social media engaged audience. Smart action films in general are going to the wayside as more theater seats are being occupied by a younger generation most fixated on answering dms than sitting through a 2 hr plus action film with a smart nuanced plot and script. I believe the filmmakers knew this when writing Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning part 1. I agree. We don’t need a part 2. A missed opportunity on so many levels.

I like to think the trial scene was a real gathering or intervention he was put through, maybe from family and friends, to discuss his state of mind following his mother's death. His fractured mental state, however, frames the whole scenario as the entire world being against him and convincing him that he caused it. I still don't see the point of the whole theater troupe section, feels like something you'd see in an Extended Cut.

Kenneth is a good film maker, for sure. But watching this one put me off. Firstly for me, the odd camera angles didn't do anything to help the 'mystery' atmosphere. I didn't get a chance to read the book, but the movie makes sure to be extremely predictable, especially from when the medium puts the cloak and mask on poirot. That one scene told us that there was going to be an attack on Poirot, AND that the medium was going to die. That also meant to me that whoever was the cause for medium to be at the house was most likely the criminal. The rest of the movie was just filler, imho. An okay movie, but a terrible Agatha Christie adaptation. (Please Mr Kenneth, don't adapt any more of her stories of this is the direction the movies are going to take.)

Sadly, its exactly how a GREAT start works, where this pilot season works as a "hey, we GOT the right actors for this, we just need a bit more cash" pitch. Which makes me stoked for season 2 because they SPENT what they needed on costumes and sets, now next season gets to spend the funding on just effects and important details.
