Having never read the books I really like the series. I'm rather geeked at the prospect of S3 focusing on the Crows as they are what hooked & kept my interest. Having never read the books and not knowing Kirigan returns, I saw the pyre scene and immediately went "well shit, he's coming back" when thet bee landed on what's her names coat, it was just too random to be random and not a pipping hot bowl of foreshadowing. I hope, oh gods above and below I hope they walk back from the setup for Dark Alina , it's such a cliche trope that my partner and I both screamed "No damn it you lazy fucks![script writers]" when she smirks after using shadow cut. And I must be too genre hardened, because I saw something happening to screw with Nikolai when him and Alina were talking in the captain's quarters. "This dude is reasonable , level headed, and empathetic... damn it, something bad is going to happen to him.."
The Crows are easily the best part of the series for me. 100% agreed on that one. I think Dark Alina will remain good, just gain shadow powers. But the bee was absolutely foreshadowing Kirigan's return. :)
Yeah it's next season for sure. Most of the events with the Crows never actually happen in the books. It's a lot of setup for what does happen though. The next season we should actually get into the first book that features the Crows prominently, and that will include a lot of Nina and Matthias.
i got anxious when they used the pekka downfall scene in this season like it is the most badass kaz moments in the last book of six of crows. hope they'll top that though with a better ending for kaz's revenge. and hope they don't lose the six of crows theme ( where they might seem fucked up but will be saved by kaz's scheming face)
Rollins is still around and directly connected to Matthias. Six of Crows will likely be covered in season 3, so they'll still have to break Matthias out of prison and probably encounter Rollins again. There's at least a decent chance we get another confrontation between Kaz and Rollins
@@TheNerdDoc Did they cover Pekka imprisoned in the books? Because he certainly seems to not have lost any power, just a change of scenery and staff. So he could use a real downfall this time.
@@TheThreebucks he was never imprisoned in the books, he lost all his influence, respect, money and most of his sanity in a very similar event. They will need to be creative now to end him with different plans
@@butterflymage5623 Yes and no. They're all part of the "Shadow-verse" but they tell different stories within it. The Six of Crows book doesn't really feature much of a connection to Alina, the Darkling, and all of that, just like the first Shadow of Bones book (and that segment of the Shadow-verse) don't feature any of the Crows. But the events of all the books take place in the same world, with much of it happening at the same time, or around the same time. What the show has done is used the first two seasons to set up the events in Six of Crows. You can kind of view it as a prequel to Six of Crows in how the Crows were used in seasons one and two. If that makes sense. Most of what you see from the Crows in the first two seasons never happens in any of the books, but it all leads into the book events.
Like this alternate storyline universe. Super interesting to get to see how certain characters would interact. I can see similar story beats but slightly mixed up in terms of order and introduction to new ideas and changes here and there but ultimately I think storylines will end similarly. Enjoying this mashup so far and can't wait for S3 since I anticipate it will be focused on the crows even more~ P.S. In an interview, both the show runner and author said the mashup was because many times shows only get one chance and if they separated it, there would be no guarantee they would be able to deliver the crows to audiences in a different show series. This way they can bring both to the silver screen, which honestly was a smart move on the show runner's part because he was the one who pushed the studios to obtain additional rights to six of crows instead of a shadow and bone standalone.
I genuinely like all the changes and I wish Darkling would stay alive somehow. I was really hoping to see Alina go rouge for some time. Especially after what the Darkling told her about not having an equal etc.
I agree! I don't know how they're going to do it without changing the story, but Netflix has already made bigger changes, so it's certainly possible. At the very least, he does go back to his normal look after awhile, so maybe it will just be the middle part of the season instead of the whole season.
read the book way before the series. loved it both ways, I understand why the changes had to be made. so long as the characters remain intact, meaning they dont kill anyone whos supposed to be alive, fans of the book will be ok with these changes.
didnt read the books, love the show, glad they combined crows and alina story line. the crows are definitely much more interesting, but mal and alina's story did keep me invested as well. hope we get season 3
As someone who read the books, I did not enjoy the changes made in the story. It's too rushed, and too many times were there scenes or story plots that carried so much weight in the books that felt so weak in the show. I'm honestly not sure why I continue to watch the show, maybe hope that I will get on board with it? Or maybe to have a reason to complain? The actors are great, but the smooshing of 4+ books in 2 seasons was a bad idea. There's too much material to cover. Season 3 is clearly going to go over the Six of Crows and King of Scars. My one positive are the Shu twins, Tolya and Tamar.
He comes back in the book. If they follow the book closely for season 3, then he will come back, but probably be a different actor. We could see as many as three actor changes from season 2 to season 3, just depending on how closely they follow the book
@@TheNerdDoc I actually think that is going to be very unlikely that there are any actor changes at all... Purely from a "business" POV from Netflix and the show runners (if there is a season 3 at all)... We know that the creators aren't shy about making changes from the source material, so quite simply downplaying Wyllan and Nina's "undercover" mission and keeping the actors would be quite a no brainer; specially, like I said, from the point of view of how popular the actors seem to be in their respective roles. This argument gets even more prominent when it comes to Ben Barnes and the character of the Darkling... IMO, they are 100% keeping their chances of bringing the character back open and if they do, I think there is just no way in hell that they replace Barnes... He is their biggest asset and name, he is the hock for many people And because of his weight outside of the story, his recognition, his caliber, etc. I think they are going to try to include him on season 3, perhaps half the season as some sort of Jedi Ghost for Alina, know that she seems to be getting affected by the darkness... And then bring him fully back by the second half of the season... All of this of course if Ben Barnes aggress to continue and if they give the go ahead for a season 3... But there is just no way that they bring back The Darkling like in the books; that's the easiest decision to departure from the books that they will ever have to make
@@Alewaxon I agree that if they keep any of the actors, Ben would be the most likely. Darkling and Nina I could see staying unchanged... not sure about Wylan. His arc has him interacting with Jasper regularly while undercover, and that would be difficult to do if it's still the same actor. Maybe they can pull it off, but certainly more difficult.
@@elenamastiukova2787 because the Grisha you see is addicted to the drug and the Fjerdan people she was working with probably promised more... In the books Grisha also attack other Grisha because they are so sick that if they don't get another dose they go mad and die
In the books their appearance changes considerably because they have to go undercover. The easiest way to do that in the show is to bring in a new actor
@@TheNerdDoc I just finished six of crows, the only appearance changes thru most of the book is hair color eye color and some slight skin tone changes. Nothing that can’t be done easily enough. The problem would be wylan at the end of SoC. I’m starting crooked kingdom tomorrow so I don’t know if this is permanent yet. But I feel they would rewrite something for his appearance to not change a fan favorite actor.
@@SephG616 I think all of the actors would return for at least some of the Six of Crows season/spin-off. They aren't changed for the entirety of the book, but you'd definitely need another actor for Wylan. His change is significant. He does change back eventually though
