This is when I start watching your videos Chandler, it inspired me to set up my own home smithy, I wish you were still making content, cheers mate, from Geoff the Carpenter.
Sure the humble railroad spike isn't made out of the highest grade carbon steel, but couldn't you case harden it? It would only be the outermost layer (depending on how long its in the forge) of the iron that the carbon is penetrating but that would really be all you need with a good hardening and tempering afterward to make it spring steel.
hello chandler, we havent seen any videos in 5+ years, i miss watching your videos... when you used to have a shop you renovated in an old barn... etc... are you still around?
So it's rebar for hammer practice. Then use a Railroad spike for your first try at making a knife. Now if I could get a forge and an anvil I'd be happy. That shit just looks fun.
I have the twin brother to that anvil. It is in better shape and I love it. It is well used and has some life left. When the time comes, I want a bro like you to fix it! Good strong work, keeping this workhorse on the job.
Hey Chandler I know you don't post anymore but this is how I learned forging. Watching you got me a head start and now I'm back for my refresher course.
Did you change the break in oil to regular oil for it !! Cause the people at the store told me after the break in you change the break in oil to regular compressor oil
Absolutely Awesome!!!!! I know after watching your video, i am completely worn out ....my hands and arms are cramping. Great job, great video 🔨🔥👍 And now I'm going to watch it again.
I know this is going to sound absolutely absurd but when you quench have you and the tip of your knife facing magnetic north. It helps reduce warps my pops showed me that trick and it does work
