Ik this is an old video but I was hoping somebody would know. I rebuilt it using this tutorial. And now it will only role forward it won't even role backwards in reverse.
Thank you for very informative videos. For an european Ford car, I,m rebuilding a C3 which is much similar to the C4, but I notice that the valves in the governor on the output shaft in my transmission has no springs! Should there be springs also in the C3 governor?
Thanks I've haven't rebuild a C3 yet, maybe you could find the info on internet. in the photos that I found,it seems there's a spring but it is not sure
What ind of grease are you using to keep the forward hub on the forward drum? I am having a hard time setting the forward drum on the forward hub. Getting the splines on the forward clutch pack seems to be a problem. What are you dapping on the parts with the sponge parts? Thanks.
Hi wanted to find out if it’s true that these valve bodies are not available? I have a 1986 ford e-150 Aod and was told that the CAN be rebuilt… Does the rebuild value body last a long time?
Yes, you can rebuild your valve body with the gaskets and seals inculded in the rebuild kit. If the valve have no sign of wear, the valve body can be used for several years
@@Thunderdeome thank you for the info! Took it to Aamco hopefully they know what they are doing! They will refill with dexron vi/ mercon lv transmission fluid
@@Thunderdeome hi really appreciate your inputs!!! Aamco rebuilt the transmission but there are two issues overdrive kicks and I loose torque when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear, using a 1989 valve body, now they are installing the 1986 valve body to try to fix those issues! Unbelievable!!!
Hello I've got a question I've got a C4 that I just had completely rebuilt with a shift kit and it will not engage into any gear whatsoever do you think the problem is in the valve body or possibly in the shift kit they installed I have the valve body out of the transmission but don't know what to look for your help would be greatly appreciate

Hello Deome, I noticed my 67 valve body C7AP has a Spring in the actuator valve and your video did not. Should it use a spring with two looking pistons and steel pin?
Very thorough and educational. I had a question? Ive heard theres some performance upgrades to make these transmissions stronger and last longer. Any chance of you recomending what should be used in upgrading?
Hello! Thank you for the tips. I'd like to know what's the pin or push rod that cames out the vacuum modulator at 2:00. I didn't find any in my transmission. Do you have the specifications of that? Thank you!
I did the first part (valve body removal) a few years ago on my fmx and now I have an extra ball and rod (3”) that I don’t know where to put. I did not see you removing a ball and rod. Any ideas?
I know this is a very old video but it is still helpful. Considering rebuilding my steering box. This helps show that it is not hard just takes time and patience.
If you are going to knock a front pump bushing in the pump, always do it from the gear side out...Why? Because there is a groove in the bushing that lubricates the converter hub...If its not lined up correctly, it will gall up & destroy the converter hub & pump...
Deome's workshop my 67 galaxie has this valve body c4 trans auto when I put my car in drive it'll take 45 secs to start to engage and move it also falls out of gear it seems would you suggest a rebuild on my valvebody?
Hello ! It's look like a problem of pressure, a stuck valve in the valve body, a clogged oil filter or a defective internal seal in the transmission cause a leakge and a pressure drop. You can try to change the oil filter, but the C4 will probably need a rebuild kit
Hi I have a C4 auto with a C8 casting number on the valve body. When I took the whole assembly apart, I had the puck and 2 check balls; however one of the balls is smaller than the other, about half the size. The problem is, I'm not sure which channels they should go into (all the videos / pictures I've seen state that the balls are the same size), I'm assuming one size should go into one pocket and same with the other? But which way round? I'm going to be fitting a transgo stage 1 kit (part number 47-1), where check balls are still required. Again, the instructions show the ball sizes to be the same. Do you know of any revisions / modifications to the C8 casting over the C7, that would require differmt size check balls?
How many quarts of transmission fluid including the torque converter(converter was drained as well). I hear it's 12 & a half. Is it the same amount as a C6 or does the MX take less?
Sorry for the late answers, i was in holiday. The FMX capacity is 11qts if the tranny was taken appart, but if you just change the filter, you approximately drain 4qts off the FMX
Where can I find the front pump seal for the MX trans? All the seals I come across are larger/rounder. I think there's a tiny bit difference in the circumferance of the Ford C6 seal & the Ford MX seal(14 bolt trans fluid pan). Do u know where I can find a correct fitment pump seal for the MX??? Part # & link would be appreciated. All the aito parts stores I go to have the larger seal which is more than likely for C6's or Cruise-O-Matics.
Sorry for the late, I was in holiday. FMX parts are not easy to find as the C4 or C6, Have you try ebay or transmission parts dealer like Transpartonline.com cobratransmission.com etc... ?
You torque your bolts improperly. Never hold a hand on the head of the torque wrench. Also I soak the plates much longer. When checking the plate clearance with the feelers guage go for the tighter (.050) clearance - this will allow for wear and longevity.
I preformed a shifter shaft seal change with the FMX in my 69 Mach 1 (in car). Unfortunately I unbolted the front band servo too far and dropped the band pawl out. I just now got it and the servo reinstalled. The trick is use a small telescopic flexible magnet (Lisle part # 66580) to attach to the side of the pawl and lay it on the side of the band drum, I was able to support the stem of the flexible magnet by laying it on the "H" pipe. I adjusted the pawl up and down until I was able to hook the servo cam onto the thick part of the slotted wedge pawl. Using this method it took me about 5 minutes to install it successfully w/o pulling the transmission. Make sure that you have a bright flash light, leave the band in it's retracted state do not attempt like I did (at first) to wire it in a stretched out fashion.
