Really ? You were able to rebuild your own using this video ? It's really hard to see what he's doing so how would you know how and where what goes ? Would've helped if he had another camera for the close up bits.
Awesome, awesome video !!! LOve the step by step. Its ALOT and have no clue how you keep the parts straight BUT anyone following knows exactly how to do it and they can worry about tagging..Cant wait to watch the rest ...
did you ever figure out what was the issue? i'm having the same issue now after rebuilding my c4. shifts through 1st and 2nd just fine but 3rd just slips and doesn't go anywhere.
Tyler Oliphant I never did figure it out. I think it may have been a combination of misadjusted band and something stuck in the valve body. I ended up finding a newer 26 spline trans. I rebuilt it mostly parts from 24 spline unit, which also had nasty leaks which I suspect were from a porous casting around the pan area. The new rebuild works great, and with no leaks at all. Have you checked your vacuum modulator and lines? That's the most common culprit. The line can not be collapsed or constricted either. The other issue could be a leaky seal in forward clutch. Run oil pressure test, that will tell a lot.
1wizardofx well i took the valve body back off and re did the air checks and now im leaning towards the govenor since it's not making the appropriate noises.
Sometimes you need to leave the air line in the port for several seconds before the governor starts snoring. A little bit more air make make it flutter too. The governor and modulator work together to regulate shifting.
I am rebuilding my 1975 ford C3 automatic transmission and found that the springs were missing in the front and rear servos. I have read here and there that it is not uncommon to leave those springs out? Should I rebuild it without the springs? otherwise I cannot find those springs online.
Nice videos! I rebuilt my c4 just like this. Before i rebuilt, when car was standing still, the first gear didnt want to engage, like the pressure was low. After rebuild the first works fine, but revers doesnt work(when hot).I dint change the torque converter,i flushed it as good i could. But some old material is in the oil, espesiali in the band servos. All gasgets and seals were new.I teared it down once again to inspect, but didnt find any mistakes.Should i try to replace the valve springs?
+2M62 did you replaced the reverse servo piston ? sometimes the seal (of this piston) has small swellings that cause leaks what is the wear of the reverse band ?
i didnt replace the piston itself. Both bands are brand new.Today i noticed a small defekt in the piston wall of the lo rev band. There is a small hole about 1.5mm in diameter.on the wall of this piston, about the height of the rubber seal.i think it is a aluminum defekt from the factory.I filled it with epoxy and sandi it down tomorrow.
I'm replacing the old vacuum modulator tomorrow on my 78 fl50 to see if this will fix the shifting problems I have. Tansmission fluid was flowing through the lines into the intake manifold. It won't shift out of park into drive after being parked for a few years, and I can't figure out why. The linkage is shifting at the transmission from the column. Can someone please explain to me what else could be causing it to not go into gear if this doesn't fix it?
Bonjour.
It's depend of the use of the transmission, street or race. Usually, Summit or another dealer, but for specific rebuilt, I compose my own kit on specialized website
It would be street, summer cruiser. Since I have never rebuilt a transmission my apprehension is not knowing what a "complete" rebuild kit includes. Would you be willing to share your "specialized website" information?
You do not show or say anything about what is under the strainer when you replace it. There is a spring and plunger you have to be careful not to loose but is there a checkball also? Mine flew out and can only find a spring and plunger.
I am like most people - AN EXPERT ON TAKING THINGS APART. But, how the hell can you put all those parts back together in the proper orientation and sequence? You just laid them all over the tray in no particular order. Before I tear apart my C4, I'm going to have to find an exploded picture or diagram so I will be able to see how all those parts fit together.
I'm with you Mystery47. Deome and Hiram at Automatic Transmissions channel amaze me the way they can throw everything in a pile and automatically know what is what. I guess once you've done a couple thousand of them, you kinda know. As for me, I'll lay everything out in order and closely compare the new parts to the old.
C6 is bigger tranny that C4, this is for big block, the operating principle is the same but some parts and components are different Torque values and end play are different
