🌷My goal is to help all educators supporting people learning how to read, write and spell. Whether you're educating as a parent, teacher, tutor, SLP, caregiver, aunty, grandparent or babysitter, you can foster curiosity about the written word and build literacy skills one word at a time!
🔎Learning how words are built and what the letters are doing them is a beautiful journey. We can't climb the mountain in one jump. Each concept we learn about written words takes us a step further. No step is too small. I'm here to try to remove as many unnecessary barriers as possible along your route. And hand you some water on occasion!
🎉In addition to my videos, I offer a complimentary guide to the Basics of Word Study and offer regular content for further word investigations. Sign up at the link below. Just a quick comment on <ed> suffix. It does more than form past tenses of verbs but can also create adjectives. A very wise teacher once told me that I want to be really careful not to teach something I later have to unteach.
You're correct about that <-ed> suffix! I just re-watched and would note that I did not say <-ed> can only form past tense verbs. My single example was for <thank + ed --> thanked> and I was describing this within a sentence where it's used as past tense verb. Since this video wasn't focused on the roles of an <-ed> suffix, that brief example served a different purpose. Does this clarify?
Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge with others. I love that your mission is to help parents who are, as you said, in the trenches. Your efforts are much appreciated! The <fer> base is such a wonderful one. I’m currently investigating it with my son. I was thrilled to see it was the base featured in your latest email-what a coincidence! Your resources are helping me understand some very important aspects to touch on when studying a particular word family and more. The process is starting to become more clear. 😃 I enjoy your quick and to the point videos. The encouragement and support from this community is amazing. Thanks for being the change you wish to see in the world. 🌎
Amanda, Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it and am thrilled to know my resources are helping you. This comment absolutely made my day! I do want to help all educators, parents included! I love when word study overlaps like that for people, too. It's so fun how certain bases and words travel through our thoughts at the same time. Wishing you & your son a beautiful word study journey!
