I'm a book-addled, music-mad composer who is learning as I go.
Why so much Red Rising Trilogy? I have a habit of composing music in my head for most of the books I read, but my internal soundtrack for RR has always been particularly detailed. I'm making this soundtrack a reality to improve my composition and production skills, increase my productivity, keep myself inspired and add something to the growing Howler (Red Rising fan) community.
It upsets me to no end that I can’t find this version on Amazon music the only one I CAN find is by “Watch Out For Snakes” and I don’t like that one *NEARLY* as much
Just got a friend into the book. Im reading it to her and when we got to the part where Eo... yeah well i played this song for her cause i wasnt about to sing irl and plus this just fits so damn well
"If your hearts beating like a drum, and your legs are a little wet, the reapers come to collect a little debt~" -sevro terrorizing Pliny over the intercom
it'd be so sick if they played this when Darrow was drilling at the beginning of the first book and again when Darrow accidentally says bloodydamn to the Apollo proctor before killing him. "YOU REAP WHAT YOU SOW" then they bring it back for all the times Darrow uses clawdrills in war
this is how I thought Eo’s song would impact everyone and it delivers every bit of that emotion and passion. It’s heart wrenching. SPOILER MS I can’t imagine how powerful it would be to add this song to Darrow’s march on Phobos while the rising beat their fists rhythmically
The people of the different colours in the series don't have the skin of their hierarchical colour. There is plenty of official art as well where you can see that for yourself online. Even covers of the books.
Have YOU read the book? Its their hair and eyes that are the color but their skin color varies from person to person. Tactus and the Valii-Rath are often described as darker skinned. While Lunes and Augustans are described as more fair and lighter skinned. They also tan and go pale. Other colors too. Reds aren't literally red skinned. Darrow was really pale, while Lyria is decribed as being darker.
Terrible take and very wrong lol idk wtf you’re reading but it’s not red rising if you think there’s a bunch of golden skinned people fighting blue skinned people
I really want to hear a band like Disturbed do their take on this song. I feel like this has potential to be similar to when Disturbed covered The Sound of Silence.
this was probably on purpose, and if it wasn't then congrats it's really cool, but the snapping sound made me think of the crack of the whip. thought that was neat 👍
Hey, I just want to comment how brilliant your soundtrack is! The contrast between Red traditional music and grand Gold overtures sets the scene of the novel wonderfully, and I love a good string backbone to any soundtrack, which you added in abundance. Your Song of Persephone is so heart-wrenchingly beautiful, I just love it! Also, I heard the references to Holst's Mars, the Bringer of War immediately (even before reading your description lol). Thank you for putting so much time into composing this!
Hey, thanks! I'm glad you appreciated the contrast. I thought it was important that the two worlds sounded as far removed as possible and fit the culture of their respective Colours. And YES, probably biased as a former string player, but I wanted the strings to represent Darrow and the Reds, and be central to the soundtrack. (I see them as the backbone of the orchestra just as Reds and other lowColours are the backbone of the Society). Haha, the Holst references were too tempting to resist. I have no regrets. Thank you so much for your lovely and insightful comment!
I realize now that a lot of these lyrics came true, Like "My Girl, My Girl remember the burn When rains froze and snows did kill We fell and fell and danced along Through icy hell to their winter song." Anyone else think this is basically saying how Sefni's motivation is the horrid colds the obsidions endured, and then describing that they 'danced along' to a story told by the golds and formed their own way of life, similar to the song of reds. Then it says: "My Love, my love remember the cries When winter died for spring skies." Like reminding Mustang of how Ragnar died for the future of his people and the Rising (she was there for it and spent a whole lot of time with Ragnar right before it, so I'd figure that's also a big motivation for Mustang, sense his sacrifice was basically the essence of the Rising and was part, if not most, the reason that probably convinced her to stick with it.). Idk, I feel like now I need to look in depth to the song and just pull it apart.
I wouldn't surprise me if the mad genius that is Pierce Brown intentionally reflected/foreshadowed later events within this series through this song. Interesting observations!
Omg, this is better than the one I sing in my mind lol. Why did you stop making themes? I'm seeing that the last one was about Sevro, which is a fantastic job of you btw.
Haha thank you very much! Honestly it's a combination of my computer slowing down, hearing issues and just becoming more interested in other things. These videos take quite a lot of time to make, more than I currently have. I'm not finished with this, though. I can't you promise when, but I will make more of these.
I would love to see this song paired with the moment Darrow and Eo are stripped away from each other, with the lyrics "Hear the reaper swing" paired with a shot of Darrow's pure rage on his face, as we see the monster within come to life.
