@diymade2175

Thank you for the interested! The motor itself in the video showed has only one speed however you can change its turning direction by arranging a different way to be connected from the power. In order to control the speed of the motor in the video showed, you have to add an AC Motor Speed Regulator between the power and the motor, that was not showed in the video. Thanks again!

What is 3.18? How can get 3.18
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 5 дней назад
Thank you for the interested! You see: L = 0.00318 * R * Vl / Vr in Henry, it can be L = 0.00318 * R * Vl / Vr * 1000 / 1000 = 3.18 * R * Vl / Vr * 1 / 1000 in Henry. Then it also can be L = 3.18 * R * Vl / Vr in Milli Henry [L = 3.18 R (Vl / Vr) in mL for short in the video showed]. That's reason 3.18 showed. Thanks again.

Secondly when testing a motor like this if u must get a stable resistance, if u get a fluctuating resistance or OL that means that the windings are finished am i correct
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 6 дней назад
That'd indicated the motor had the kind of faulty and you were right at this stage but it might have indicated other cause (s), certainly it needs to do further investigate if you'd want to be sure. 👍

What about the windings were u get a reading of all windings equal in ohms which is on a universal motor can u elaborate on that
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 6 дней назад
Thanks for your interested! If all windings were equal in ohms, I'd say the winding (s) in that motor were at faulty such as some part of winding (s) burnt or short completely. The motor needs to be disassembled and further checked.

@diymade2175
@diymade2175 9 дней назад
Thanks for the interested & yes, you've spotted one thing on! To put it in the simplest way for answering: The reasons for attaching a capacitor to a single phase AC motor are (1) Easy to start motor & then run it smoothly as you've mentioned. (2) To improve Power Factor because the coils inside AC motor as whole can be seen as an inductor in the AC circuit, so you might have known already - an inductor has the voltage 90 degree advanced over its current however a capacitor has the voltage 90 degree behind its current, in practical circuit a capacitor & a motor together will compensate some phase angles each other but all, that will be the result for improving Power Factor for whole grid system (for your own benefit, improving Power Factor, the less current goes through your home elec meter, the less the power bill you have to pay).

If i connected the shunt between battery negative and body (my car is body grounded) and connected the ammeter, will it work? Can it withstand with the current drawn by selfmotor? Will the shunt allow to flow that much current for starter and all ? Or it be a problem which shunt being the weaker link in the line and blows off?
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 29 дней назад
I love your question, Mate! Yes & No!!! This DC mini digital meter's limitation: Max 100V & 100A which it can only withstand! it will be okay for starting current from motorcycles or mini cars however for other cars' starting current can be range of 100 to 250A in the most cases, so it'd be highly likewise to blow off the meter & shunt. Incidentally speaking, the way of mini meter & shunt connected in the video showed must be seen as whole thing then to connect it to whatever the circuit is. Good luck! 👍

@@diymade2175 so i have to connect the shunt after the starter, but how can i connect the shunt in a positive line, in the video shunt goes in the negative. As all my electrical equipments are grounded to body where can i connect the shunt? Or better to connect in the alternator line?
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 29 дней назад
@@arunck5779 Theoretically speaking, you can connect it in either ways: In the alternator line or after the starter however in your case, to connect in the alternator line would be challenging & cause some troubles in the practical situation. It will be better to connect it after the starter: (1) Disconnecting negative(-) terminal cable from your car's battery. (2) Connecting Shunt's one end (Thick Black Wire connected from the mini meter) to car's battery negative(-) terminal, of course you have to use a suitable cable which can withstand starting current such as a jumper lead. (3) Connecting Shunt's other end (Thick Red Wire connected from the mini meter) to car's body or the Black cable that you disconnected from battery negative terminal for seconds ago, again by using another jumper lead as you wish. That's it, then start your car and good luck & enjoy! 👍

How many turns are on primary windings? What's wire gauge in primary?
@diymade2175

Thanks for your question! Primary windings: Center tapped - 2 x 10 turns & 20A wires or cables. Secondary windings: this coil was original "primary windings" from MOT, I didn't know exactly its turns however by the actual tested, I'd think it had 220 turns approximately & AWG 16. Hi. The video title says 100v but on your schematics it says 4~30v. It means it is not a 100v meter?
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 Месяц назад
Thank you for the interested! DC 4 - 30 V is the range of Mini Digital Vol & Amp Meter's supply voltage: In order to let the Meter work, it needs to have a DC power given (such as DC 5 V, 9 V, 15V, 24 V & Max 30 V etc). On the other hand, DC 100 V & 100 A are Max voltage and current that Meter can measure for the practical circuit in use for example: You have a DC motor with max 72 V & 12 A capacity, then using the Meter in the video showed to measure or monitor that motor's running Voltage and Amperes. Cheers 👍

Incidentally the more details can be read on subtitles, just turn on "CC" on your device.

It should be 11 volts not 14 because after bridge rectifier you get peak AC voltage which is 11 * root(2) = 15.5V, minus bridge diode drop 0.5 x 2 = 14.5 final voltage
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 2 месяца назад
Your calculation logic was alright however your statement was not correct. In normal circumstances the value of AC voltage is used as Root Mean Square value (Vrms for short) such as AC 120 V, 220 V, 230 V or 240 V etc they are all Vrms value. On the the hand, the peak value of AC voltage is used at the time to consider the component's limitation. Thanks for your interested!

@diymade2175
@diymade2175 2 месяца назад
For answering your question thoroughly it'd need a few hundred of the words, however typing it as simple as possible and hope this can explain regarding your concern. A single phase AC motor with a capacitor attached, which its stater has two coils in series built. As showed in the video, the way of a capacitor connected can provide: (1) An easy & smooth to start the motor. (2) When the motor running, improving the power factor as you might have known - the coils inside motor as an inductor in AC circuit has voltage phase 90 degree advanced its current however a capacitor in AC circuit has voltage phase 90 degree behind its current, so they compensate some part of phase angles each other but not all in practical circuit. In order to get (1) & (2), a capacitor must be connected to the highest resistance wires. On the other hand, if a capacitor is not so connected as the video showed: It'll either burn a capacitor or not get above (1) & (2). Thanks. 👍

@diymade2175
@diymade2175 3 месяца назад
Although I'm not a vacuum cleaner's technician, your circumstances might have been different and following points are general guides only: In the most cases, rats would not get into the motor so locating where was the wire(s) or other damaged by dissembling the vacuum case carefully - I suppose you have the basic tools such as: Screw drivers & a pliers. For repairing wire(s), make sure to have a good insulation. Incidentally speaking, the motor has two type: AC motor or DC motor - there is a small printed circuit board inside cleaner's case for DC motor, it might need to check the circuit board & associated wires as well. Good luck! 😶👍

I was always curious to try this but never did. Always warned that lpg and auto lpg are VERY different. Auto gas is not corrosive, however gas bottle lpg is. Auto lpg has an oil additive that is separated before combustion. Mechanics drain this as part of a regular service. This would get you by in a pinch if you ran the tank dry, but it's definitely not recommended by mechanics. Cool to see though

I have three resistors that burned up but still give a reading. Thanks to your guide I have determined that there are two Watts but each one reads a different ohm reading. Reads 5.4 ohms the second one reads 5.6 ohms the third one reads 5.7 ohms. How do I figure out what's the actual ohm for these three resistors? Any help would be appreciated
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 3 месяца назад
Thanks for your interested! There are the standard resistor's value tables such as the system of E24, E48, E96 etc. Taking the system of E96 as an example which its resistor's value has 1% tolerance across range: 1.0, 1.02, 1.05 ... 5.11, 5.23, 5.36, 5.49, 5.62, 5.76, 5.90 ...9.65, 9.76, 9.88 ohms i.e. so you can match three of your resistors to the closest values of the system E96. However as you've indicated: "three resistors that burned up but still give a reading", in the most cases the resistor's value(s) would go up after burned and their reading would be varies depending on their burned condition. There was not much you could do unless, unless you could pin point the function of three resistors in the circuit then you'd compare to the similar circuit(s) to eliminate the other values. Good luck! 👍👍

Very good , when does the internal resistance become a factor so to use formula C? Is it at a high frequency or do you need a sensitive ohm meter ? When to use mains power 50hz , is it the power rating of the coil? The resistor power rating if you use 100w globe ? Sorry to be a pain , amazing how often pie is used and accurate. Thanks .
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 3 месяца назад
Good thought, Mate. To measure Inductance, it has been not an easy & simple task especially on high frequency. To be all things considered thoroughly, the best way is to try the experience a few times by using a normal multi meter and steps in the video then you'd figure yourself out and make sure to play safe! I'd use formula C for lower frequency range such as below a coupe of thousand Hz. In order to do electric project(s) properly, there are three steps (at least two steps) need to be done: (1) Design or draft a circuit, (2) experience or test, (3) Conclusion or may be, to do an improvement as well. Thanks for your interested & good luck! 👍👍

Why we did not take -ve power from bridge rectifier and took from center pin of transformer??? Any reason? Also there is no filter capacitor ??
@diymade2175
@diymade2175 3 месяца назад
Thanks you for the interested! The charger's circuit in the video requires to have functions of Half & Full Wave Rectify which you might have already known: The components in that circuit need at least (1) a transformer with a center tapped output terminals, (2) two diodes, however a Metal Bridge Rectifier used instead. MBR acts just like two diodes in the charger's circuit so no need to have "take-ve power from bridge rectifier and took from center pin of transformer" as you indicated. The other reasons for using a MBR were the better cooling and convenience at the time the video produced. Indeed, it is not necessary to have a capacitor for Car Battery Charger however you could add one if you wish. Cheers!
