In this video, I will show you how to modify an output of DC 12 V Switch Mode Power Supply to Max output of DC 14.5 V for charging any car's battery. There are only a few of common parts to be replaced easily. Step by step in details.

Why do you need to change the capacitors if they are rated above the max voltage? Thanks.

Good question, Mate! Theoretically speaking, those of 16 V (because of 16 V > 14.5 V) capacitors no need to be replaced however in practical, it'd be better off replacing them with rate of 20.5 V or higher ( because of 14.5 V x 2

what??? are you connecting the smps directly to the battery??????? re you crazy ????!!!!! the battery can be damaged/destroyed or even explode

How many amps does it take to charge a 12 volt lead acid battery? As a general rule of thumb when selecting a charger for a lead acid battery, match the voltage and use one that is no more than 20% of the capacity rating of the battery (at a 20hr. rate). Example; to charge a 12 volt / 7.5Ah battery, select a charger with a maximum charge output of 1.5 Amps (7.5 x 0.20 = 1.5).

@@kennmossman8701 Good day Mate, you've mixed up with the concepts of how to choose a suitable charger for a particular battery as you mentioned and how mush charging current can go through that battery. The basically speaking: How much charging current can go through a battery depending on the charging voltage and that battery condition (neglect other facts), the worse battery condition, the higher charging current. Wish you'd remember about ohm law: I = V / R. If the battery condition is normal, there is not any difference for charging current to go through that battery by using a 1.5 amps charger as you mentioned or 20 amps charger as in the video showed as long as two different charger's charging voltage is the same value such as 13 V. I leave to you for figuring things out. 👍

@@kennmossman8701 I'd reckon you need to refresh what you had learnt about electric subjects or research related to charge battery(s). Thanks!

different smps use different circuits - this will work on some units WARNING high voltage alert......always unplug before doing anything

Thanks for your interested! No worries because: The standard AC 220 or 110 V to DC 12 V smps power supply internal circuits isolated between high voltage part of the circuit and low voltage of the one. In the video showed with live power was on, the only low voltage part of the circuit or components were touched. 🙂👍
