Great memories for me, only lived a few years in the town but was a regular visitor for nearly 50 years to see grandparents who lived on 7th Row. Ive yet to find better ice cream than Pieronis anywhere. They were husband and wife, she was called Norma. According to my nan the recipe was never revealed! Maybe just folklore.....
Amazing interesting footage. I personally would have preferred it without the music so you could hear all the sounds, but that’s just me. It’s heartbreaking we have lost this industry. Thanks for sharing ❤
I loved going to my Aunties In the 50s and 60s been sent to Pieroni's with a large jug for some of the best ice cream ever . it's not the same now. I really miss Pieroni's .
This was the first coal mine where the MINERS all turned into millionairs. Pray to God that that will finally happen. Wanna bet? Poor as hell miners, living only fourty years and dying of coal dust. And mine owners who loved golfing and being an arrogant Member of Parliament. Jesus, hep this stupid world.

Newbiggin, tremendous for everything from fishing to golf, high street has everything you could possibly need from a meal deal or a pint to kebab and everything in between.
From what I’ve heard this reopened freight line is going to be a Newcastle-Ashington service. Fine; but would it not be so much better to continue it to Morpeth and back to Newcastle as a circular? Why is it everything that’s done to reopen old and disused lines always seems to fall short somewhere?!
The track does not exist for it to be a circular journey. When the Blyth and Tyne service reaches Bedlington Station the track splits and from there trains can go either to Morpeth or Ashington, but a circular journey with trains calling at Ashington and Morpeth isn't possible.
@@vincentgledhill I think you’ll find it is. I did it on a railtour in 1994; past the old Butterwell pit. Just relay any missing track if it’s been stolen.
@@vincentgledhill Early seventies l think George Wright was branch manager , l remember l had just passed my test and they had a Morris Minor van ! Also worked at Morpeth Branch in the Sanderson Arcade ?
@@bobatwell7505 I remember big George well. I worked at the Sanderson Arcade office as well, but only briefly in 1965 and Frank Carr was the circulation manager then. Have you been back to the old office since it was turned into the Hop 77 micro pub?
@@vincentgledhill I haven't no , living in Killingworth, so not often in Morpeth . Will have to visit..🍺🍺. They eventually closed all the branch offices so transferred into the Transport Dept in 1981 . Remained there until 2011 when l retired .
@@bobatwell7505 I retired in 2009 after 44 years. By the way, were you in the Thomson pension which was taken over by the Pension Insurance Company and have you been to any of the lunches they hold every year?
Loved newbiggin when we were kids every time we visit the north east from the midlands as well as this year January 2023 it feels great. Many a time we had a trip there.
I think they should also erect a Statue of JC at GAA headquarters Croke Park,Dublin..He put Irish football on the map👍☘️ it would be well deserved recognition!
@@vincentgledhill I didn't realize that!..And in this day of instant Celebrity addiction (it's like ur purchasing some kind of new cereal at the Grocery store!) Jack Charlton was extremely well known for all the right reasons!..And he had so many top qualities it's hard to put u finger on one in particular, but his 'down to earth' honest persona stands out for me&as I said he gave the Irish ☘️ people something to be proud of in the field of Sport!(especially on a International level)
@@jerryoshea3116 I'm from Jack's home town and went to school with his youngest brother, Tommy. I also ghost wrote his mother Cissie's autobiography, so I knew him well and, take it from me, he was every bit as genuine as he appeared to be. He also loved being an adopted Irishman
@@vincentgledhill Wow that's amazing &I'm honoured👍..And I just watched that 1971 Tyne Tees Docum..It was great to see the county back then& him mixing with the people he grew up(Geordie's always so friendly and grounded from my experience!) with,&his family,it really was a excellent piece of work there&in todays media obsessed world he was a Producers dream,( and nightmare because he was obsessed with being honest& straightforward)And this is why he was so appreciated and respected! And his family really were such high achievers to say the least, and of course his Brother Bobby also being a football Legend! And as for me being born in London to Irish Parents,Jack did so much to give the people of Ireland something to rejoice,&and the sudden rise of the football team(who were seen as a easy mark up until his arrival on the scene !) Was phenomenal!..Yes they don't make them like him anymore!
@@jerryoshea3116 In his later years Jack liked nothing better than walking along the prom in the seaside town of Newbiggin, which is next to Ashington, where he was born. While his wife had her hair done by a hairdresser who was also an old friend, Jack would walk along the prom chatting to anyone he met. Eventually he would end up at Newbiggin golf club where he would have a coffee with an old friend who had been in his class at school. Jack never forgot his roots.
