A regular part of growing up is thinking "I can't be getting older it must be these darn kids!" We've seen millennials go through and grow out of it, we're seeing the end of a second wave of gen x go through it with eminem and kanye, and now its normal that we're starting it since nearly all zoomers are adults. The fact that we're doubling down on reclaiming our youth and normalizing gaming shows a lot of promise I just hope we dont fall for the boomer trap of growing old but never growing up.

i actually dont think gaming is in its best place! i think nostalgia is a good thing to consider but i genuinely think a lot of modern games with microtransactions are incidcative of a new dangerous problem we didnt really have in our age of gaming the worst we had was like, skin and texture packs in minecraft, and honestly that was about as bad as it got iirc. nowadays, microtransactions and fomo are being pushed on children that cause them to spend exorbitant amounts of money or at the very least suffer from a feeling of fomo… back then we didnt really have that! and even in rare cases where we did like idk, halo 3 hayabusa etc, it was a less destructive thing because people couldnt pay their way to get those things idk

As someone who plays both current games as well as older ones, I would say that games indeed have changed over the years. But the issue isn't so much "wokeness", as it is that games have become more expensive to make and as a result developers, especially AAA ones, are trying to play it safe. Newer games tend to focus more on things like gameplay loops and reward mechanics, instead of just making a fun game and hoping that the players will like it. One example to illustrate this is The Elder Scrolls series. If one compares Skyrim with Morrowind for example, Skyrim is much more of a streamlined power fantasy focused on making the player feel powerful and to constantly reward them with various loot items. Meanwhile in Morrowind the player feels weak and insignificant in the beginning and the game can sometimes be more frustrating than it is rewarding. But in the end, Morrowind feels like a more honest and less "engineered" experience. And it isn't just nostalgia, as I only played Morrowind years after completing Skyrim. That said, there are still great games being made, especially by smaller studios and the barrier to entry has been lowered thanks to digital distribution, which means there is a lot more choice.
