I walked up to Derek Bieri of Vice Grip Garage while he was at a gas stop in Wimauma, Florida. I tried to make a joke. Tried....Ugh. I'm sorry, dude. Edited by VideoGuru:videoguru.page...
We watch Derek too (VGG) and if we seen him bud I can see how excitement might make you spontaneously take over without thinking and just go for it without thinking of how he might feel,, I agree with others too !!! we watch him and others so much it’s like we know them so well ha ha You just get excited!! But he reacted and replied the way he comes off in his videos so no harm done and you made a memory right !!! And you got views too lol good video !! We subscribed and shared and liked !!
I personally would rate the interaction almost that of being starstruck. Or kinda like back in school and you finally get the nerve to go speak to your crush and then nothing you say makes any sense. 🤔 💬 So next time bring some cold snacks with ya. 😉
VVG is incredible. I am so happy I found that channel. I'm almost 100% you tube content. Tv just doesn't cut it any more. It isbgreat to watch people like minded with an audience that is equally like minded. Great job.
You got my respect sir for this video. Derek is a super busy content creator and probably has everyone and anyone walking up to him constantly. So the fact that you can admit in your video you probably caught him at the wrong time gets my respect. Sub for that sir.
I think that when we watch channels on RU-vid or shows on TV we subconsciously form a kind of relationship with the presenters and feel like we know them or believe that they are the the character that they adopt for their work all of the time. I love what Derrick does and feel like he is a pretty genuine feller, but it must be difficult to always react full on with someone you've never met before and don't have an existing rapport with. We can all usually understand a subtext or 'in joke' from a friend or loved one but it's tricky judging it from a stranger. I believe it's best to keep these type of 'real life' interactions simple: "love your show" or "enjoy your work" is positive and respectful and doesn't need a reply. The famous must have heard their catch phrases repeated back to them by wise-guys who think they are the first person to have ever thought of it, or the same questions, thousands of times..
I have many "celebrity " friends and you did a great job of putting this into words, it's 100% what they go through. I'm not sure how you educated yourself about this subject or if you're simply an empathic soul, but this hits the mark.
@@nettceo8543 I sure do appreciate your words. I was a radio broadcaster for many years, so I have some experience in that realm. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Regardless of the comments, I can appreciate your humility amd honesty for sure. Wierd how nobody else seems to catch that and decided to just be a dick in the comments. It's not easy to put your life out there for everyone else to see and most likely those hateful Comme ters really don't understand that. You seem to be a stand up guy and I hope your youtube journey is successful!
Derek is a reserved and laid back Fella in general by nature it seems by seeing his interaction on other RU-vid videos he has collaborated on... but yeah definitely not the ideal way to engage someone you haven't met or know in a conversation 😆
Yeah, his response below summed up how he felt about the whole thing. Turns out, I made a pretty big deal out of nothing. He's the man! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Not everybody can do what Derrick and his family does every week 365 days a year. We've all been preoccupied and busy when someone asks or does something kinda off, and we would normally laugh and return the joke, but instead were kinda annoyed. Don't sweat the small stuff. Good to post a public apology even if only a few people witnessed it, instead of an e-mail or phone message
My friends and I used to always say that kind of thing to each other at the drag strip. We were all running in the 9s, but we slammed each other's cars. The reply would be something like, "Absolutely not, I think I'm gonna have to remove the nitrous jets entirely". lol Thanks for watching and commenting!
Gotta be honest with you, to me it just looks like a guy with 3k subscribers attempting to use Derek's name in a video title for clicks and subs. No other reason to post it.
I can see how you'd think that. I felt very awkward about it initially. After Derek responded in the comments, I felt much better about the interaction. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I agree sometimes we're not in the best mood for a joke, heck sometimes we won't even realize it's a joke. Funny I was just thinking about what happened to me with my friend and his uncle. My friend and him could not get his 82' chevy truck started. I said "it's a good truck only thing is, it doesn't work " it was met with silence.... i didn't say another word
I am convinced that Derek is a good guy. I've been in his position, with people approaching me at less than optimal moments. He handled himself far better than I would. I'm still a huge fan. Thanks for watching and commenting!
VGG truly is a class act. Imagine you’re in conversation with someone and someone (you) rudely walks up and interrupts. You’re spot on though, and I humbly make my comment.
I'm just here for the comments Seems like all the people that are commenting are telling you exactly what Already explained lol😂 That's why you're making a apology Good or bad reaction is good for the channel so all good Keep up the good work 👍
haha He’ll be alright ;) you’ll get a like and sub 👍 Don’t be breaking your head for a feller; he’s livin the dream. And a day driving with that rumble will take a toll on one’s social skills haha He wasn’t ready for ya!
I love the dude and his show but the last thing I would ever do is just approach him. I apparently look like a certain famous person and let me assure you I get extremely tired of people I dont know approaching me. Saying the saaaaaaaaaaame shit... Every day. Saaaaaaaaaame shit every day. Im sure he hears the saaaaaaaaaaame shit every day.
Nothing to be sorry about man. Sometimes once people get a little internet attention they can let their ego get a little wild. Easy to tell you were just kidding.
Yeah, I didn't mean to do that. In retrospect, I was simply very fired up to meet him and awkwardly started blurting out words for no reason. Very embarrassing. lol
It's a lame way to get yourself a handful of extra views. Walk up into his grill and start speaking during a conversation, how rude are you? Then use his name in this fake apology video. You must actually think your clever. Check the subscriber count between you and VGG it kind of tells it's own story.
I had no idea that he would be there. I live in the area, and I stopped at Wawa for a Slurpee. If you check out the video before this one, you'll see how it all happened. It was a :60 interaction. My reaction was honest. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I can definitely see why you would feel that way. He commented below and made me feel better about the whole thing. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Let's call a spade a space... this is just click bait to get people watching your video, which worked on me. If you're really sincere about the apology take the video of your awkward interaction with Derek off youtube. You said what you had to say, he acknowledged and said it was no big deal so you can both move on without using his face to drive people to your video.
You're free to have your opinion, and I'll leave it posted here in the comments for everyone to see. I remain proud of meeting Derek, and I think the interaction is interesting to watch. My definition of clickbait involves lying to or deceiving viewers. This video does neither. It's a chance for people to see Derek "behind the curtain." It shows that he is quite adept at dealing with awkward situations that come along in life. I remain a huge fan of his. Thanks for watching and commenting!
We've all been on both sides of that fence fellas. Can you imagine the stuff running around in his brain now , O'Reilly stuff , roadworthy, vgg, vgl, little grip mix in being away from home and responsibility of 2 vehicles enduring that torture. I hate leaving home this guy is seldom home. Long live VGG
I subscribed to your channel. To see what you do. You Apologized. I done the same to people,It's a Bad Habit I have.its hard to change.I try Iam going on 67 this year. You think I would have Learned by NOW!! HARD HEADED.
So you walk upto a guy you only know from youtube, (who is talking to other people ) you interupt with a lame joke and what did you expect derick to do ,role around laughing ?and its not about him having a bad day its about using manner's,i think you learnt a lesson .
As I said in the video, I totally understand his reaction, and I was aware that my joke was lame. Did ya catch that part of the video? lol Thanks for watching and commenting!
Derek still could of had been nice about not be a dick.its not the first time someone has done it.he can't handle someone coming up to him then he should stay home.
@@mohawkgarage Thanks!! Hope you like our channel. Me and my sons try to keep it light and have fun in our shop and with our vehicles. Big game changing addition will be arriving here today and certainly be in a new video!
Spent several hours at his pit at Valdosta Sick Week 2023. He was great to interact with and didn’t seem to mind us being there. He even commented on my video of that day.
I've found that most gearheads are genuinely good people. I've pitted next to multimillionaires who own multiple modified Lamborghinis but still asked me about my Hayabusa. A real gearhead loves to be around other gearheads. Thanks for watching and commenting!
SGMP, Ijust bought a house 4 miles down the road. I have a 12a rotary 1980 rx7, Pontiac 400 swapped 77k10, rx8 that's soon to be LS swapped, & soon to be building the girlfriend a project as well still shopping around for something. I'll be out there a lot I'm sure. Been going to SGMP my whole life, they've gotten horrible about not advertising big events, so hopefully I'll catch all the RU-vidrs out on the next event. 2023 I missed it & this year I was in Florida working 🤦🏽♂️
Yes because that motion raceworks truck absolutely gets down 👇 Derek's got so many things going on all the time im sure he has to plan 5 steps ahead at all times, maybe 20 who knows but seems like nice enough feller with some awesome toys i believe the truck could turn 8's if he had Lil time to spend tuning 💯 ✌️
I don’t think that your joke was that bad, after all we all know that it is a 1000 h.p truck and that of course it beats the 14’s range. Unless you were intentionally being facetious, but I didn’t take it that way. It wasn’t that egregious. Dericks a good guy, I am sure that he got over it really quickly.
I think you're right. After meeting thousands of people on that trip, I'm pretty sure he doesn't even remember the interaction. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Seems like are really nice guy.. but I've learned my lesson on meeting public figures.. some nice and some not so nice. Just the kind of day they are having.
Yur better of to just look at the truck breath though yur noise listen if he wants to comment walk away with thumbs up say nothing and don't use a video that's a threat cause he has to watch what he says in public intimidating that's how I see it hope u learn from this
Derek is old school he definitely can handle getting flipped some shit. You didn’t do anything wrong maybe just little quick on it for the first line 😂
Ha, exactly! His jokes are consistently better. I'm a huge fan. I would have subscribed to your channel, but you have no content. If you ever do, I will! I'd be honored to be your 4th sub! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Anyone can be a jerk. I definitely have my moments. In this case, however, I was the guilty party. Every comment here has been in support of Derek. That says a lot about his personality and interactions with his fans. I remain a huge fan. His comment is below. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I was showing my '68 Mini at Balboa one day and saw Mike Brewer from Wheeler Dealers. I walked over to meet him as I like his show. He was talking with another guy, so I just walked back to my Mini. After a few minutes Mike walked over and started a conversation with me! I'm glad I didn't interrupt him. I would not have had anything meaningful to say. When he came over to me and saw my Mini, we had something to talk about.
Yeah! It was a bit embarrassing, but I've gotten over it. lol Derek responded below, if you wanna see what he said. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@BilgePump In retrospect, nothing whatsoever. I overthought the whole interaction. I was a bit nervous at the time. Even Derek commented (below). Thanks for watching and commenting!
what i think is cool about the RU-vid community with car guys. We watch the videos that any guy puts out and feel as we are involved. So when we see so called "famous" RU-vidrs in the wild. It makes the everyday guy feel like we can just come and talk with y'all. Especially car guys. In my opinion we as we are the everyday guy. We kind of forget that this is a everyday thing for a guy like Derrick and since they are not on tv we dont think of them being famous or have a million plus subscribers. We just want to talk cars. But when out in the wild and you stop for every person to talk with. It would be hours sitting in one spot. When life is waiting down the road. An when everyone knows your name but they dont know yours in return. I would imagine it would be a little unsettling. Especially when theres been people to Derricks private house to get a piece of car or whatever else. That becomes a issue in my eyes and a danger to my family. Which i wouldnt hesitate to have a bird shot to someones ass. I give Derrick high regards for a response to you. Thats the type of person i would imagine him to be. Yet, i dont know jack about him. Thats the confusion with the outside world and RU-vid creators. It was courteous of you to say something about the interaction. Ok, ive said my piece. Y'all have a good day now ya hear. 😊
We watch people like Derek so much it feels like we know them and they are our friends, so when we meet them for the first time it like a good ol buddy to us but it’s a stranger to them. Kind like if you went to the gas station and some random person walked up to you and said, What’s up you ugly SOB! If it was a good friend you would laugh and call him a jackass. But you would want to punch the stranger! lol Good apology, keep making vids.
My channel is not that big. But I still have people show up to my house and have even found my phone number. It just gets old after awhile having strangers walk up as if they are your closest family member and jam a camera in your face or walk right in your garage and say. I brought my car by can I bug you to fix it. Or they tell you you did your build all wrong. Yep it gets old quickly!
I totally agree! It's difficult to be "on" 24 hours a day. He did a great job of dealing with the situation, though. I remain a huge fan. I'll be subscribing to your channel, too. Thanks for watching and commenting!
😂😂😂 Sean your sense of humor Is well known for us that know you. I think he was just kind of caught off guard what you said lol. And I'm sure it was a busy ass time because of the drive and everything. And man has it been a long ass time since I've seen you. We still up here in dayton. Well im in carlisle. Lol
I had to move to Florida. The weather up north just got too cold during the winter. How's life been going for you? Thanks for watching, commenting, and saying hello!
@@mohawkgarage Not to bad. Definitely cold up here while it's got its days it was 60 two days ago and now it's like 35 So yeah it's up and down typical Ohio. I didn't even know you had a RU-vid channel lol found it by chance. Definitely been forever. Everybody finally went with the times and switched to fuel injection on everything. Dad's green Camaro Rob's black Camaro Jason kind of went back and forth and stuck a carburetor from fuel injected LS on his S10 that he's got. Lot of things have happened lol.
@JHcustoms937 I am still into Corvettes, but the only carbureted vehicle I have is my '31 Ford. Every other toy is injected! Send me a friend request on Facebook, if you're on their much. See ya, dude!
The other channel, Vice Grip Lodge, has even more great content. He and his family just bought a farm, and it's awesome. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@duanebrenneman8296 I've watched that channel a few times! I was a lot like him when I was a kid, messing with dirt bikes and go-karts, fishing in farm ponds...
I think when we watch so many videos of a content maker, we feel we know them personally. In reality we don't know them at all. And they don't know us. So we expect them to be how we think they will be towards us. That's why they say never meet your heroes.
Respect to you for the apology to Derek. Takes a big man to realize he may have been in the wrong. You may have had a similar reaction if a stranger walks up to you and immediately cuts your ride down. We all make jokes that bomb. lol You should try to see him again in person, he's probably a really decent fellow.
A fan of this guy,his channels, very down to earth, good down to earth people there, need to get to the states from Australia 🇦🇺 😀 😄 and heck, have a good time cheers guys 😊
As old as you are. You should already know it's not polite to interrupt people when they are having a conversation. There was a better way of doing it go sure. But whatever it is not that big of a deal. In his eyes you are nobody to him anyways so it doesn't matter. He's not going to waste his time explaining it to you. He'll just be polite and let it go. But if it was one of his kids doing that I'm sure he would teach them a lesson on how to approach people when they are in a conversation.
I disagree. I don't think viewers are "nothing to him." If that was true, he wouldn't be experiencing his level of success. Derek commented below. Check it out. Thanks for watching and commenting!
You don't understand the point. Anyway the only reason you got views and comments was because you made this video about Vice grip garage. Other than that you're just another Grain of sand in the beach.
Agreed. I've been there, too. I hope I didn't make him terribly uncomfortable. He's worked his butt off to achieve his level of success. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Derek commented below. I totally agree. He truly is a great guy. I've never heard the rumor about charging for autographs. After meeting him, I'm positive the rumor is BS. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Much respect to you…not that it should mean anything coming from a stranger in the RU-vid world but wanted to acknowledge the very public apology of admitting when we maybe didn’t present ourselves in the best light…We need more of this in our world! ✊
It really was awesome. We are right in the middle of a RU-vidr paradise here. Derek is from Tennessee, but he's here all of the time. You need to come down soon!
Well you walked right up to him, cut in and interrupted his conversation to say an insult to a man thats frustrated with the tune on the truck. I'd be a bit avoiding to you too.
