After working as a mechanic and fabricator for almost 25 years, I’ve decided to share some of what I do and what I love best. Working on and modifying vehicles.
About me: I am a both a qualified mechanic and qualified auto electrician. I have worked as a mechanic in both Australia and overseas. I’ve worked in roles such as a general workshop hand, to head mechanic, foreman, service manager, and also tried my hand at working in spare parts for a few years.
After all these years, my passion for cars has never changed. Hoping to share of some of that passion, as well as some of the things I’ve learnt over the year with you all.
Absolutely not. Done heaps of them on jack stands then on a hoist. Just gotta jack the rest end up enough to get the rear cradle out. Bolt the back wheels back on before you drop it out and roll the whole assembly out
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk I have a l67 but it needs work I just want to put a standard reconditioned engine in so I can properly work on the l67. I just need it to run for my mum
Ok i understand now. Yes you can. You can use the L67 ECU as well, this is the easiest way. Coolant temperature sensor wire need to be extended to go to the front of the motor. There is also the plug in the L67 loom for the boost solenoid on the back of the drivers side head, this will stay unplugged. You will have to change the ECU to one from an Ecotec though. Ecotec won’t run on L67 ecu. Then you will need to program the ecu to the car. There is a video on my channel of us taking the L67 out of the silver wagon and then we out and Ecotec back in its place and get it running
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk sorry how do I use my l67 ecu but I need another ecu for the new motor? I can extend the wires easy. And will I need to change the fuel pump at all? sorry for being a bother I've tried calling mechanics and they don't give me proper answers. I appreciate you replying back I need a little guidance.
Fuel pump will be fine you don’t need to change it. The Ecotec won’t run on an L67 ecu. So you’ll need to get an Ecotec ecu to run the Ecotec. But the ecu will have to be programmed to the car for it to start
Man you sure do know what side is up when it comes to working on cars matey 👍😝 im Bundaberg Qld & own a 2004 VY Calais V6 & about to replace front & rear suspension ! The car is my everyday driving car & was my late fathers car , So ive decided to keep it & not part with the old mans car ! Im spending way way more than what market value is for a 2004 Vy but doing this car up to near new isn't about the money ! I wish i was blessed with knowledge like You 😊👍 i really enjoy your videos & im learning plenty ! Cheers from Bundaberg 🍺🕺
That bonnet cover/protector on the hood always irritated me. Looks like a person with two big connected eyesbrows. Here on the continent you rarely see them with those.
If it was my cat I probably would as well. However I have heard the same system in a vehicle that also has extractors and high flow cats and it’s quite loud. Very different sound
Howdy mate I have just brought a project vu commodore ute that a previous owner manual swapped I have noticed that when shifting the revs don’t drop all the time between gears. Any clue what it could be ? Going to use your videos as reference to go over things anyways and see if the swap was done decently etc learnt a lot watching this series even if it’s a year old haha. Also going into 5th is the same for me alot gotta really find that f@cker 😂
Thanks for watching mate, really appreciate it. What your experience is called rev hunting or holding revs. 2 questions. Does the car have an upgraded larger throttle body? Is it still running the shot ecu? Either of this 2 things or any combination of the two can cause it. There’s no real way around it short tif getting another ecu
Mate what wheel nuts do I need going from steelies to alloys on my VZ exec wagon? Just put some SS Vy 18s on and the open ended wheel nuts go deep on the front wheel studs, but just sit flush with the wheel studs on the rear. Is this right?
Yeah that’s right. The rear studs are shorter than the front. From factory, they use the same nuts on both steel wheels and alloys. Difference is with alloys they run plastic nut covers on each wheel nut. They come in silver and black and you get them from Holden or off eBay
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk thanks heaps for the reply mate. I was looking at it thinking I’d have to get a set of longer studs 😂 love the videos too mate. Cheers from across the ditch
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk alright sweet as sounds mint tho and looks great thinking of doing the same to my ve just don't know if I should put on extractors n cats or not
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk yeah will be getting the upgrades done at a tuning place just wasn't sure if I should get the exhaust and cold air intake only or that and the extractors and cats also but sounds like my ve would really benefit from doing it all
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk - Thanks. That would be about my budget. Got a MY17 SV6 Wagon last week. Took the Orssom OTR out of my old MY13 and will be fitting that. But when I have exhaust and OTR fitted, then I will have to get a tune, so how much cost would that add?
@D800Lover could have been less than that mate I can’t exactly remember it was a long time ago. I’d expect you to pay anywhere from a grand to 1500 for a custom tune but speak to someone local to you who does tuning as everyone charges differently
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk - I note that some do 'remote' tuning. Also that you can do tuning after an OTR is fitted without Dyno. But I suspect that get you a guaranteed improvement by not the final optimisation to get the absolute max possible, right?
@D800Lover proper way to tune a car is on a Dyno. Every engine is different, regardless of how they are built. In a perfect world any modification you do will enforcer more if the car is tuned, but there are of course benefits that can be gained by doing bolt ons without tuning
Any auto parts store. Burson, Repco, autobarn, super cheap etc. Just keep in mind there are a few different types. You’ll need to measure the inside diameter of the old centre bearing to get the correct one, which you can’t do until it’s replaced. I normally buy the few different ones that are available so I have them. Then once the jobs done I return the ones I didn’t use.
They should mate. Lift doesn’t really make any difference in Fortuners as far as tyre size goes. Not unless you’re trying to fit 33’s or something. And if you are, you need to cut away a bunch of stuff. But as far as this tyre size goes, shouldn’t matter
Hey mate, when drilling the dowels how far in do I drill? So the depth from flywheel being starting point how far in from there? And what were the dimensions of the stainless steel dowels?
Install the flywheel and use it as a guide for the drill bit. Once the drill bit is sitting in the flywheel butted up to the back of the crank, you want to drill in around 8mm depth. From memory the dowels are 8mm x20mm
Great video I enjoyed watching it. But I do have to correct you, the icc screen is a mk1 coloured screen. Most xr6 xr8 g6 had monochrome, the g6e and some xr had the coloured, Mk2 are a bit bigger and don't have the buttons next to the screen.
Hey mate should make your fans run 24/7 make intake temps heaps lower so makes more power 🤟🏽I just had 10psi pully mace cold air intake cat back exhaust 4.11s and fans on 24/7 and it made 231rwhp and 540nm on dyno no tune
I have one fan running on a switch that’s in noisy off the time, the other one is still controlled by the ecu. Thing is though once the car is moving above around 60-70kmh an hour, the cooling is mitre beneficial with the fans off. The reason being is there is only a certain amount of sure the fans can pull through the radiator as they are limited to how fast they can spin. Once the car is moving at a speed which is faster than what the fans can flow, the fans can become a restriction. Hope that makes sense. So basically I have one on a switch which is on most of the time, even if I’m in the pits with the engine off for 5-10 min I keep it in. But when I’m driving the back straight I sometimes flick it off. The other fan is still controlled by the ecu
Hey bro with the doughnut looking things for the tailshaft will the automatic ones fit? If not what are they called and where can I buy them? I’m in the middle of a swap right now. Cheers
Most auto ones will fit, however in the very last of the VY’s apparently there’s was some rust are a different bolt pattern. I’ve never encountered them though. V8 are different though.
Best explanation of this job I have seen. Just one thing; some other vids show only one bush for each side whereas yours shows split bushes that you have to put in from both sides. Also it appears from other vids you have to measure the depth of the bushes to make sure you get them right otherwise parts could be rubbing.
Thanks heaps mate. Yep definitely 2 seperate halves to the bush that sandwich together. Really appreciate that awesome comment and appreciate you watching
you would think that hundreds of indians would be drifting and pumping up the scene or atleast bought out calder park then it would go up 10 times in value overnight😂😂😂😂
@@cassarindustries_wheelwerk mate please keep making videos. Don’t expect to gain a million subscribers straight away but improving your camera angles, instructions, step by step how tos and uploading frequently will get you there quick. Your knowledge and ability to make a rocket out of a paper plane is addictive. Keep pushing I dare you! 🔥👍
Awesome vid!! I was in the black vy and me and the ba had some good runs together! Apologies for my straight pipe ecotec 😂 she was a bit loud that day!
Thanks for watching man! Was yours the black sedan? (Autstc or something like that). I came to chat with ya but one of the guys that was near the car said you’d gone to the toilet 😆
Knowledge is NOT a burden & You matey have plenty of it when it comes to working on cars 👍 if i knew half of what you know id cop that no worries 😁 Think il be talking with my 2 daughters aged 20 & 23 to marry a Mechanic ! & get him around on weekends to teach / show work along side of me on my old cars & replacing Most of their Suspension 😂 Luv your videos matey 😝 Cheers from Bundy Qld 🍹🕺
Again thanks for kinda words and support. That’s the goal for most of my videos, is to try and teach people some of the things I’ve learnt over the years. Happy to teach whoever is willing to learn. I’m not a videographer, and I hate talking! But after all these years I’m still passionate about working on cars.
G'day from Bundy Qld 😜 im new to your channel & glad i found it while doing searches for front end suspension work & service for my 2004 Vy Holden Calais , Your videos are so good to watch & I'm learning heaps from them 👍 You're are lucky to do this work every day i say 👏👏 wish i had of done a mechanical apprenticeship or known someone to show me about cars when i was young fella , I'm a old dog learning new tricks at 58 thanks to Fella's like yourself making amazing videos for us to view & learn from ! Cheers from Steve in Bundaberg 🕺🍹
Thanks heaps for the support and amazing words. Means so much to me matey. We love bundy by the way. Been there a few times and have some friends that live up there. Beautiful place. Thanks for watching
I get some sort of vibration on my footwell after these sway bar relocation kit as as after bulbar, front struts sagged a bit and sway bar was hitting the struts. Thinking to take it out as I have upgraded to proper weight limit front dobinson springs on my 2023 wide body hilux
will you be leaving it auto or going manual? I’m looking for a BA to get into budget drifting and would prefer manual but would auto still be fun? Cheers
Thanks for watching mate. We’re not sure at this stage. Manual would be something we’d prefer, however we tested the car last week at Vicdrift and it did so much better then we could have expected. Jason drove it all day and said he’s never had so much fun. Plus manual conversions for Falcons cost heaps, well into the thousands, and we still want to keep this a budget build. It will definitely still be auto for the next event anyway
