As part of an effort to both humanize the badge and educate the public, we’ve started producing this show where we break down policing clips and memes to help bridge the gap between the public perception of police officers, the media portrayals, and the realities of the job.
Reacting to fictional policing allows us to educate on different aspects of life as a LEO with less of the political baggage that clips of real life interactions bring and hopefully create a more approachable and informed conversation about policing with the public and are happy to take suggestions on topics and clips you’d like us to discuss.

Joseph Wambaugh ( the author, former LAPD cop) wrote about this in one of his novels. In his time LAPD had a black and white policy- being offered a cup of coffee or donut, or even a discounted or free meal, was ok, but exchange of money in ANY ammount was grounds for termination.
I should also add, this guy has never been a Cop in a metro city environment. Where there are some people who would not tolerate this type of treatment and try to shove his badge up his ass. Just to say they did so. Guarantee you he has never been a REAL fight for his life. It’s a reality check for sure.
I'll admit to being utterly confused. Whenever the military shows up in movies or tv, they're wearing high-speed looking gloves even for the most mundane of tasks (and often wearing gas masks for no reason other than "It's spooky and they did it in Half-Life"). Have you ever tried to type wearing tactical gloves, let alone a MOPP suit? It's terrible! Then we've got cops on TV. They're NEVER wearing gloves, even though at least as far back as the mid 19th century police units were wearing gloves to handle evidence or crime scenes. Even crime scene technicians are often going gloveless! Writers and/or actors must just love doing the "Pick up stuff with a pen before letting anyone photograph the scene" trick.
Best cop scene involving a potential suicide from a multistorey carpark was in a English cop show called 'SCOTT & BAILEY' while the empathetic cop tried talking to the desperate man/woman from a few feet away, her partner would grab her jacket every time she made a move toward the jumper, preventing her from killing herself if the jumper went for it.
@@OnlyCops the British series is about a syndicate of detectives (UK police force detective units are called syndicates). Storytelling is gritty, centered around two female cops (not winning every case but doing a difficult job), more along the lines of THE WIRE and HILL STREET BLUES. 60% criminal investigations and 400% about their home life and family, especially their family and friends who are unawares of the pressures or fulfillment of the job... and don't realise that home is supposed to be welcoming and not another pressure point.

You get one fucking day for driving? In the UK we get 3 weeks, a few hours of that is roadcraft/theory and the rest is pure driving. After a few years you start getting regular refreshers.
I'm a volunteer firefighter in the southern part of Alabama and we use the Motorola 7000 our raido will work until they die then change the batteries but once those batteries die then we're SOL
I have just recently applied to the FWPD and I’m waiting for the end of October for applications to be finished, I was wondering do y’all have any tips for getting through the hiring process
FWPD is a great department for the area. The advice I tend to give is to remember you're not a cop yet and nobody expects you to be. Being coachable is more important than being prepared
With the human pit clip, i would say one other possibly reason the first officer hesitated to shoot in the initial contact was the passenger directly behind the soon to be piniata. Its also possible that in the current climate they have a blanket 'do not shoot a fleeing suspect in the back' policy regardless of prior actions. Not saying thats a good idea, but it's not uncommon. Semi related question, is there a reason that during a traffic stop an officer doesnt place stop sticks under the vehicle?
@44:10 Australia deemed anything not office as essential, so lawyers and tax persons were work from home but retail and trades were essential, basically if you could wfh do it but a cafe worker, plumber and a cop all needed to be at their job, and it wasnt fair to first responders to close cafes so retail could stay open. It was a weird half measure time that i got alot of paid overtime out of lol
My old man when on the job in 62 retired in 94. I went on just after him and was done in 2022. Love this, my how times have changed. Discretion is GONE.
3:30 so interesting to hear that's what a real officer might do. I took a police exam and it had a question like "how would you handle paraphernalia like a pipe, joint, etc." and I said I'd dispose of it by breaking it or otherwise discarding it, but I would not turn it into evidence. As it turns out that was the wrong answer. The answer they wanted is you take it into evidence and file a report.
If you are choosing to charge them for a paraphernalia, then you would need to take it in for evidence. But if you were going to destroy it and let it go, then technically you have the discretion in some departments to do that.
"Shall arrest" laws should be unconstitutional, period. Takes away any semblance of discretion or nuance in a situation and lets the "dominant aggressor" (the man) KNOW the moment he gets the cops called, he's going to jail. What does he have to lose at that point? Would be an interesting study to see how much violence escalated on these calls when the man knows it's the end for him no matter what he does at that point.
I definitely think it's an over reach for law makers to create "shall arrest" clauses. And it 100% escalates police investigations during domestics due to this circumstance
8:36 I've had SAPD pretty much say that after someone broke into my garage. "We can get a detective down here to dust for prints and do an investigation, if you'd like, but this happens all the time and it's not likely we'll find anything and we probably won't find the stolen items. I can give you a report number for your insurance." Truth is there probably wasnt anything they could have done about it. They haven't been able to do anything about all the random shootings around town, how much effort are they going be able to put into a stolen old drill and an entry level acoustic guitar?
No matter how small the issue might be to them as a department, everyone should be treated equally under the law. That begins and ends with patrol. I worked every call to the fullest extent I could to make sure at least something was being done for everyone who requested emergency services. Allowing apathy to guide enforcement decisions is dereliction of duty if I'm honest about it

We got cops called on us cause we had a car meet turned into a 2 touch football game cause whoever called thought we were about to all fight, when the cops got there they turned on their light bars and gave us light to play while it was getting dark👍🏽
That is pretty awesome 😊 I got called to a "disturbance" one time similar to this. It was a Mopar car meet and we were issued chargers at the time. I turned on my lights so dudes to take IG pics with the car in the background 🤣🤣🤣
