I think they tracked him to that Swiss bank heist but they couldn't admit to using illegal methods to catch a criminal (hacking) so they were always watching and waiting for a single slip up so they could secure a warrant from a judge. If they acquired evidence of his crimes illegally the judge wouldn't approved arrest. So they made up this ridiculous story about backtracking his birthday to a VISA application. They definitely backtracked him but not through Instagram.

There's many reasons ppl would buy luxury goods but the main ones are 1. Because they love it and they buy it to make themselves happy- they're just being themselves, doing what makes them happy and expressing themselves 2. For validation from others 3. As a status symbol 4. To show off and to make others feel inferior on purpose. If you wanna buy designer goods, I suggest you only do it because of reason #1.
