Hi! I'm Ed. Welcome to Minisodes, a hobby channel focused on Warhammer 40k from the 1990s. Join me as I explore the Games Workshop of my childhood. I also make the odd painting tutorial and battlereport.
Its so cool to see how many of the unit types we got today were already around even in 2nd ed! Love the video. Also, I got some of those ancient death company too! Someone was selling them for nearly nothing, felt great to pick those up.
Bro where the fuck do you get 2nd ed minis ive been searching for years and the only thing i found was incomplete starter sets on ebay that cost like 500 bucks
this old edition battle reports are really great - especially when narratively done so well as you did. It feels way better than just 2 armies clashing together and killing each other for just some strategy points or such - the story gives it all a meaning, that someitmes feels lost in newer editions. Thanks for this format.
Hey man, wonderful work! Trying to emulate it actually but I'm getting some major warping on the foam board. Did you have this problem at all? I'm using the 3mm one but fairly certain a water-bases glue would warp the 5mm thick ones as well. Thanks!
Oh that's annoying! Have you tried sealing it all with modpodge first? Should act as a sealant/varnish, that might safeguard you against the very gloopy PVA phase.
@@edpaintsminis I did not! Will add it to the process. No cutting corners with these corner-ruins I guess :} you did mention you only apply it to the exposed foam sides though, not the cardboard on top? And you didn't get any annoying shrinkage?
After having this pop up in my recommended ive gone down a rabbit hole of 2nd edition. I am a bit younger and never knew how zany and fun these old editions could be. I watched basically every video you have posted and have been scouring the interwebs for pdfs of the old codexes and rules. I found the aptly named "40k bible" and am planning on hosting a couple games with friends. These videos you make are amazing the pace, music, colorful models, narration, everything is just top notch! Please make more battle reports they are a very fun time!
the whole second edtion astetic is good but... I wonder if I could look even better to have minatures painted in second edtion style that are of later edition. I have seen it done with the new carnifex which is screamer killer inspired, the current hive tyrant is very close to the second ed one in equipment and weapons, a person has done abbadon painted old style with current model. It would be expensive but.. that one limited editon terminator based off second ed codex artwork does exist, so the art of second ed is done better in current ed miniatures. Though with dreadnaughts the change is the most stark and something about the second ed dreadnaught of a chaos warrior helmated dreadnaught walker is definatly lost. Some biological part demon walkers are great but I do still want one that is all evil robot sarcophagus with angry marine in it. The whole the dreadnaught is alive and you are meatsac does have cracy body horror... but what made chaos marines mad of being in dreadnaught was they cant feel battle, if the dread is a living body and you are injected in it and it felt like a body all the previous downsides of CSM dreadnaught are eliminated.
So, you're not sticking to the original game format then. Space Hulk (even the Deathwing and Genestealer supplements) did not feature Force filed generators as part of the Terminator loadout. In fact, the only specials allowed were Crack and Frag grenades or missiles.
After seeing what 40k has become nowadays finding this channel is a balm for my soul. Just a question, i sem to remember that in 2nd edition the space marines came in squads of 10, why are there squads of 5 on the field?
I would love to know if the bigger later edition marine bases or, say, using later edition kit get in the way of proper 2nd edition-ing. I think the Centurions are one of the most 2nd edition lookin' models ever.
Hi Ed, I have been binge watching all your videos (again) because your channel is awesome. Could you at some point showcase all the models that you have in your glass cabinet please? Thanks mate
I'd say Gabriel Angelos' famous 3rd Company of the Blood Ravens from Dawn of War 1, but outside of a darker shade of red I don't suppose there'd be enough difference from the Blood Angels at 6mm 😂
Love seeing Matthew come up in your videos, both of you guys are my favorite Warhammer channels, hope to see more with his Ultramarines or Chaos Forces.
Loved watching this with such fun commentary. I only recently started playing 40k with 10th and so seeing the differences between that and 2nd is really fun. Keep it up!
That tiny little bolt-thrower poster made me smile, lol. Been bingeing these videos lately, these are some of the best battle reports on youtube, thanks for making these.
i have a few questions 1.what brand of terrain do you use 2.is the table custom made or did you buy it from somewhere 3.why do i like watching this more than 10th edition
I really enjoy watching videos... it is like capturing the essence of what made the White Dwarf battle-reports from the 90s so captivating in a video format with superb narration and choice of music. You're very good at using intonation to great effect. 2nd edition is my favourite by far... I would say if it ain't broke, don't fix it... but it is Game$ Work$hop :- )
