What an intro! Absolutely brilliant! Amazing to see these classic ‘nids painted up and looking so good. Another amazing video pal, they just keeping hitting all the right notes.
The original plastic warriors are, to this day, still probably my favourite Tyranid design. You have to add 2e Screamer Killer for sure, a Genestealer Patriarch would be a cool addition too.
Good luck finding a patriarch! That thing is rare as all hell. I only know about two guys who have on in their collection. One of which had it since it originally released.
absolutely incredible that on top of all this painting you created life-sized but soulless biomechanical replicas of yourself and your friend to perform in this video, that handshake was the scream of the natural order in agony
Yo! These old school projects are getting better and better. There's nothing like drinking some beers and painting up some models with a homie. The intro was sweet too. If you can find one, an old Screamer Killer or one of the old creepy little spider Biovores would be tight as hell to see alongside your bugs. Keep up the good work my man.
Screamer/ Killer.. Most definatly. If you can scare up an old school Armorcast Malefactor, that might be a close second... Otherwise add in the Carnie, and a Lictor.
This is exactly what im doing with my leviathan set nids :) the marine side is adding to my just started scythes of the emperors force (getting back into hobby after 10 years or so) going as oldhammer as possible but with modern models :)
Thanks for another great nostalgia hit mate 👍 I personally would love to see a classic Carnifex next - it’s the first thing that enters my mind when I remember 2nd edition Tyranids 🙂 your videos have given me the inspiration to get on and paint my own classic minis! Cheers!
@@edpaintsminis Iv managed to gather quite a substantial nid force and the start of a cult army with enthroned patriarch, which I’m planning on scratch building a pope mobile/ limo for him.
I miss 2nd edition. It's where I got started and the edition I played the most aside from maybe 4th. In every edition since, adulthood preventing me from playing much. It wasn't uncommon in the last 20 years for me to get barely 10 or 15 games in before the next edition would release. I also miss the simplicity of 2nd. Sure, the RULES were a bit clunky (a product of its time) but the ARMIES were so much slimer in rules and units.
Is that the early 90s, MS-DOS version of Space Hulk playing in the background @ 1:08? I loved that game as a kid. Anyways, thanks for another wonderful video!
Man your videos rock. I absolutely love the intro, but you genuinely make me want to finish my shame piles, as well as introduce more of my friends to Old-hammer and the hobby in general. Keep it up!
Great opener, scarey infestation. Nice start to a classic Nid force, old sculpts still look good and fresh with a 21st century lick of redesigned paint. Of all the weird bugs you can add, I look forward to the zoanthrope, I think its the strangest version. I like your long haired Gyrinx.
This is BRILLIANT!! I always loved the metal genestelaers they always looked so odd and well that was the point ha great stuff and the intro ha (the poor cat)
Awesome stuff! Just came across your channel as i am repainting my 2nd ed Tyranid army from the 90s so this hit all the bells! 15 Tyranid warriors down, keen to get started on my 2 of my 4 unpainted Screamer Killers while the resin recasts of my Armorcast exocrines set 😄
How amazing is this!? Always loved these classic 'nids, with their wacky looks and crazy colours. Great job painting them! I've got a few of the rogue trader termagants, the ancient screamer-killer and a pile of those plastic genestealers from space hulk - Everything but the carnifex I use in my swarm today. Just can't beat them.
For a minute there I was worried tbat you were going to leave the chest armour off those Tyanid Warriors. The force looks fantastic! I used to play Tyranids back in 2nd edition, my main advice is to gove everything that can take a Biomorph, a Voltage Field. Those things were nuts! +1 strength, 4++ save, and can burn out enemy power fields, all for 20pts... yes please! Would be good to add some of the classic Hormagants, the 2nd edition models have a look to them that has sadly been lost with the 3rd edition redesign.
That darn voltage field is incredible on a Carnifex or Hive Tyrant! The cost does stack up though and I am also a fan of the 50pts limit that some people impose on all wargear and biomorphs - good way to keep the game somewhat balanced!
@edpaintsminis aye, I remember once putting the +1 Toughness on my Carnifex several times, thinknit was Toughness 9 in the end, immune to Heavy Bolters. Think it needed a lot of player consent to stop abuse like I mentioned. In my defence I was young at the time!
I'm thinking about restoring a bunch of retro marines I have. Most of them are still on 25mm bases, and some of the bases say they're from 1993 (I got them second hand as part of a lot)
Great video. I love the old school miniatures. Perversely, "chitin" is pronounced 'KITE - in'. I always thought those old Warriors were kind of goofy looking, they look great the way you did them. Game on!
Killer intro! I always wanted the original screamer killer, look forward to seeing you getting that one done (not keen on the new updated leviathan model).
Normally, I hate Contrast paints. For these guys, though... It's perfect for them. I'm in. I have about 29 or so old school guys like this that need some love.
Enjoyable video friend, your Tyranids look great! I am painting up some Ultramarines and Tyranids as well, unfortunately no one to share their glorious restoration with :D
Add in a 2nd edition Carnifex, some Genestealers, Hormagants, and a Lictor and you will have the same Tyranid army I had in the late 90s. Quite fun. 2nd edition was a blast. I did 2000-2500 pt armies of Space Marines, Orks, Nids, Eldar, Chaos Marines, and Necrons. Hopefully you do a game with this army.
Its great to see these early models painted as they should be .They are really quite awful in some ways but years later I find a charm in this . I stared gaming with the Tyranids 3rd edition starter army . A large outlay for a kid but a wonderful lot of stuff . It would be interesting if you did a battle report with these as I have no idea what they were like to play . Great work
I absolutely love this video and am very grateful to have found your channel and to you for bringing these old models to vivid life! I have always considered these Tyranid Warriors to be some of the ugliest models ever made, but I’ve never seen them painted up this well. Well done 👍
Yes! Thank you Arvid! That is amazing to hear! The warriors are really divisive, but the illustrations of them from the time really captured my imagination. I'm planning on doing some more armed with Deathspitters soon.
Amazing video, instant sub. 2nd edition Tyranids are my favourite. I've managed to collect a large amount over the years, so I know they are hard to get. I'd suggest you get Hormagaunts since they look great in a swarm and tend to be cheaper than the wallet killing screamer killer. But in all honesty, we both know you need them all.
