Great to hear about Kyle's new focus with PIKLR. Remember meeting him and watching him battle at the Spring Fling in Palm Springs in 2016.Kyle and FAD were a blast to watch. Wishing Kyle luck in the upcoming MLP Aus.
Great interview Brian. Raise spin levels 100% agree. Bring down power limit. RPM test for sure. In Rec, if someone shows up with a Gen3, I pull out my EVA. Bring it!! Proton's new face is similar to PU paint like the Diadem A52 and ICON version 1.
Thanks for the comparison on the CF Hurache-X Control+ 16mm vs 14mm. I've played the 16mm for about six months and love the feel, I tried a couple of different kevlar paddles but keep coming back to this one. I've always liked the quickness and pop of a 14mm so seeing this available in a 14mm got my attention.
I love this paddle. I feel that it has remarkable control and a huge sweetspot. I found it easy to feel comfortable handling all situations as I feel there was no sacrifice of control that often results when moving to the more powerful 14mm paddles.
Racket plays great. I think it is the best racket for hands battles and getting into the kitchen. The feel of the ball is way different imo cause the dwell time is completely different than most other paddles.
I really don't like the marketing that Om is doing. First, that is clearly a paddle. A racquet would have steings. Second, as someone else said, every tennis player I have ever played with likes elongated paddlea with ling handles.
Brian great review of a special paddle. Congrats my friend. Hope you are having a wonderful summer. Will be in NC for a couple of weeks visiting my son. Give you a call to say hello. Keep up the great work. All the best and saludos from Panama.
Pick one up a week ago, I have played 3 times so far and I love it so far. It was an easy transition from The Six Zero Ruby. Handle is long enough for my two handed backhand, only problem I had was finding a spot to rest my left pointer finger as it kept finding the Y gap. Thanks for your review, I know I didn't make a mistake in purchasing this racket.
Hard to believe they designed this "racquet" for tennis players with a 5" grip. Most tennis players use a twooey and need a longer grip. Also tennis players typically prefer the elongated shape vs a standard shape and a thicker grip. Not that the OM has bad traits in a paddle. Just not what tennis players typically want. Personally I prefer more of a control paddle or an All Court leaning control. Would have liked to hear the RPMs for comparison to mainstream paddles. Nevertheless, thanks for the review of a very unique paddle!
OM Aero¹ PRO is in development which is an elongated version with 5.5inch handle. RPMs have been clocked at just shy of 2000 typically, though it depends on technique.
ALW is dominant for singles, women's and even mixed. The only reason they almost lost to the Johnsons is bc of Ben. Ben has high pickle IQ but he's outdated!! He needs to modernize. He and Colin need to modernize. JW lets Jorja play way more court than Ben does for ALW. ben and ALW do well when he lets her take more court. They are only capable of making comebacks when ALW takes over. Next time- watch.... When Ben starts messing up... she looks over at her mom for guidance on when she should start taking over. She carried him to that mixed win against the johnsons and I've seen her do it before several times. She is as strong as many of the men. Ben is lucky to have her! Ben is taking 75% of the court and exposing himself. Modern pickle doesn't allow for that anymore. Johnsons understand that. Jorja was eating Ben alive bc he was often off balance bc he's covering too much court. He and Colin are playing old school pickle and losing. For men's- modernizing means- having a much more aggressive right side player.... such as Gabe or Hayden (Hayden played right side with fed and he was standing in the middle .... as a right side player). For mixed, Ben needs to let ALW play more so he's not exposing himself. A strong woman can go behind him and attack his backhand bc he's not where he should be. If fact, ALW was the first to expose Ben in the 2022 nationals. She and Riley destroyed Ben and Catherine for gold. ALW destroyed Ben. Attacked him. Go back and watch that match. Fascinating. ALW is a trailblazer and has only ever played modern pickle.... i.e., aggressive, shorter points, quicker speed ups, mid court attacking, poaching, etc. Ben is STILL old school. He NEEDS to adjust! He has all the skills and is better than Fed or Dylan or JW. He's just not playing modern pickle!
Well said! Ben has ALW so mixed seems to still be a lock since she is so much better than all the other girls. There is a formula to beast them though and I agree its going behind him to keep him off a balance and if he tries to do too much its going to be tough for them. The rest of this year should be really fun to watch as each team will continue to adjust, and the teams that allow the girl to play more court will do better if the female can add pressure! Thanks for listening!
If they both play their best, then Sherry destroys Anna Leigh. But he is very streaky. If he is off, she could beat him pretty easy. Anna Leigh is always great! Sherry's high and low are so far apart.
Learning as I go, but appreciate the kick in the nuts. I’ll get better, and time stamps moving forward! I just looked up how to add them, and why they are important. Mucho Gracias 🙏
Greetings! I must say, I have ripped massive topspin on this stick and the feel is fantastic. Topspin is king: the surface of this stick gives you major control.
Another great episode. I appreciate your text on the weekend. I agree the venue was lackluster. There has to be a better place to host this. Maybe a combination of weekend winners combined with season winner. Award more points if a team wins the weekend then teams that haven’t been playing well potentially have a chance to catch up.
Soo last week I discovered I have the pickleball channel on my tv and I just so happened to watch the event this past weekend and now im obsessed with watching professional pickleball. I would always watch the matches on RU-vid months after they happened which was cool but watching it live on tv was awesome! Can’t wait for the next event. I’m really glad I found this podcast because none of my friends follow the sport so it’s like I’m listening to 2 friends talk about it 😂😂. Also not sure how to enter the giveaway but I liked, commented and subscribed so hopefully that’s how. Goodluck everyone!
I believe you misquoted Ben regarding MLP. He didn't say that he didn't like it, he said he enjoys it, but prefers PPA, because PPA determines the best players. I totally prefer MLP and the team atmosphere. I like that the talent is spread out. The winners on Championship Sunday in the PPA are so predictable .... though the Men's Singles and Doubles events have gotten a bit more exciting.
I had the same thought about the venue, it seems like it was just a small park or something? And the music was defiantly loud. Enjoyed the pod and I'm a little bummed I didn't get to make it.
I found it funny that literally right after you told us to look at the points per match statistic, you then said the New Jersey 5's were struggling. They are 2nd in MLP in points per match, and the only team yet to lose in regulation and won every dreambreaker. Not to mention they've only played 3 matches.
The reason I said that is they have only got points on dream breakers if I remember correctly. ALW’s team is flawed unless they can actually win a match outright. Not saying they aren’t good, just that they wont be the best and have a shot to win unless they do something different.
Did you watch any of the NJ 5 matches?? ALW is NOT struggling and in fact is the most dominant woman in the MLP. Look at the men on her team! They are struggling. Despite that they won 100% of their 3 matches. She is the only woman and perhaps player to not yet lose. She is 100% carrying that team! They have 2 of the weakest men. Imagine if she had Gabe and Hayden?! Again- despite the challenges- look at the stats so far for NJ5s..... There is only so much so can do but she has stepped up in a big way. Watch the 2 matches that are available to watch from Atlanta! She is in a league of her own on the women's side- even for MLP.... so far. Hoping that team can get even one strong guy.
Great episode. I also prefer the auction draft. You don't just get lucky with your draft slot. James was awful all wkd. His drops were bad and too much attacking from compromised positions. I enjoyed getting there early Fri and watching some Challenger matches. Yi Wang on Vegas impressed me. Hadn't seen much of her. The only player who shocked me more was Pisnik. I knew she was good, but she was such a wall! The match between her and Etta against the DC women was the best of the wkd. Think I am gonna have to make the trip to VA to see the next in our area.
