Leah’s Meltdown, and why the PPA did her dirty! (+The mental game of Pickleball) 

This was so good Brian and Sara! I don’t believe enough people look at the mental side of any sport near enough! There are reasons some people are constantly on the podium while others of very similar ability are middle of the pack. There are so many physical skills we work on in this game but many overlook things like how to be mentally tough to close out games, how to bring your partner up, and how to play your best on the biggest stages. I really like to examine what makes some folks “winners”. At the higher levels everybody is good physically, I really believe the mental game is where the cream rises to the top.

“When you see red, it’s hard to see green again.” Truth! Leahs partner could have stepped in to get her out of her head. Truth too if they don’t get a handle on cheating, it will damage this great game.

You found pickleball in Mesquite NV😳 That’s amazing because there ain’t much going on in Mesquite but golf and casinos 👍

This is insane. PPA tour should have better systems in place, rather than relying on some authoritarian and unfair judges. Leah's challenges should be fully warrented and the line calls have to be reviewed for fair games. To me, Leah's team lost the very important game because of the judges who made wrong calls without varifying them.

Man, I came across this video at the right time. Brian, we should be pickleball partners. LOL. I really liked your story about partnering up with a player that was at a higher level. I had a similar experience. The last tournament I played was December 30th of last year . It was horrible and the drive home was even worse. And just like you, I have taken time off from tournaments. I swore that I'm not going to do any more tournaments unless I find a partner that has similar mindset as far as strategy and doesn't make me feel like a piece of crap if I'm having a bad day. I have been focusing on improving my game through drilling and enjoying the game. Thanks for the video!

It was hard to watch Lea’s meltdown, but the balls in question were clearly in - Koop was cheating.

From the 2 FPS cameras to the regulatory inconsistency; "pro" pickleball has zero legitimacy and until that's fixed, it'll be a clown show. It can't be "pro" with large sums of money on the line AND allow players to make their own calls - if you're gonna do that, you better allow for unlimited challenges during a match (and that's stupid). Also, hey how about the 4 straight out calls by Lea that were overturned in like 15 minutes in another match? Koop is the biggest hook in pickleball???? LOL

Lea Jansen is the WWE Heel of Pickleball. She’s the John McEnroe. She’s messy and loud and larger than life. Which is SO good for the sport!! Nobody is letting out true anger and emotion like this, except maybe Fed Staksrud when he’s breaking his paddle. She’s my fave, I am ALWAYS rooting for her… one day I want her to beat ALW so bad. This match was freakin awesome, drama included. Thank you Lea for being you!

I was very surprised you did not bring up the Bronze Medal Singles game from Sunday. Lea played against Salome Davidze which is always a tense game as Lea always accuses Salome of cheating. They always insist on extra refs (they had 7!) Lea had 4 calls overturned before the score was 3-0. She was clearly cheating much worse than Koope was on Saturday. The sport has to stop letting the players make line calls. There are not enough refs to have 7 of them out there every game.

The reason there were no challenges is because the match had to be moved from outside to inside due to rain in the middle of the match. Because of that there were no sideline cameras. Unfortunately , this happened multiple times throughout the tournament.

Leah always seems irritated in interviews. She’s the only one who does that mental jig before her serve so it seems par for the course. It would be interesting to know what her childhood was like 🤷‍♂️

That last ball definitely looked in to me after slowing the video down and pausing on the contact frame. I don't like Leah as much I'll admit but she's definitely correct here and justified to be pissed.

Often it's very difficult to judge balls. Everyone gets hooked. Leah is a whiney player. She has had more meltdowns than most players. Everyone has made wrong calls and if you know you can get into some head by a serve or out call it's worth the excitement.

The PPA is just a joke of an organization unfortunately. They got caught up in a fake tour wars and MASSIVELY overpaid the players. Now they don't have the $ for proper video equipment and the refs are basically volunteers. Expectations of them have to be severely limited when the PPA is paying $10-20 a match. I made more money than that umping baseball games as a middle schooler 15 years ago haha. Also the next day in the bronze match Lea got 4 of her calls overturned before the score in game 1 got past 1-0.

Too bad the loss you suffered has you thinking/deciding you are a lower level player. No matter how many losses, if you want to be at a higher level you must pursue to that end and pay the price to get there and be there. You must think you are the higher level player.
