This channel basically follows me as I try to live a life worth living, adding life to my time rather than time to my life. It is impossible to explain what it will be about or contain as my interests and ambitions tend to change from one day to the next. But it is certain to contain a lot of stuff about hiking, bicycle touring, backpacking, bikepacking, video creation, photography, motorcycles and just generally trying to become a minimalist vagabond while still doing everything I want to!
Hi, I ditched my over-warm down sleeping bag in México in April, and I'm looking to buy a quilt or a bag that I can unzip completely. I'm going to do from Cologne to Jaén in Oct/Nov(Dec?..I'm slow) What brand is your quilt and do you recommend it? I guessit'll get cold-ish in the mountains in Nov in Spain. I'm asking because you're obviously an honest guy who doesn't do the sponsored lifestyle.

I have a Thermarest Vesper quit that I have used for 4 years, in everything from sommer to -2 degrees (C). Love it and it has worked really well. A sleeping bag is usually too warm for me and I like sticking my feet out and using only part of the quilt when it is warm. It is a little bit more difficult to stay under the quilt when it is cold compared to a sleeping bag but I have not had any problems. There are other brands like See to Summit that make good quilts as well but I have only tried the Thermarest and as I am very happy, I haven't tried anything else. :)
Have been using the footbike on and off in the past year (currently in need of a puncture repair) but an excellent piece of kit. Any NSW or Sydney based kickbike groups still running?
Hi, why did you use Ortlieb front bags instead of the front rack and the (small) panniers?
29 дней назад
I really did not need more space and wanted to keep the bike as small and light as possible. I like to go off-road as much as possible and want the setup to be light for when I end up pushing and carrying up and down the rough terrain. :)
Hi, do you know if RT520 front rack fits to RT920's fork? Did you load RT920 fork with the panniers?
29 дней назад
I believe it might fit but I would not recommend it. The carbon fork is not rated for that sort of load and I would recommend smaller solution, like cargo cages.
Did you find the load limits for RT920 fork? I know that alu is more safe, but if they did these mounting spots in RT920 and have the rack in the offer I thought it works...

@@ukaszopaek9159 I remember seeing the load limit but don't remember where. It was not as high as the load limit for the rack.
Great review! to me it really looks a good deal, with the only negative point being the handlebar. Do you think it is easy to change it with a flat mtb handlebar, or would you need to change many other things (and spend much money) in doing that? ...and do you think it would be possible to swap the front fork with a suspension-fork, without changing the wheel and giving up on the dynamo?
Месяц назад
To change to a flat handlebar you would need to change the shifter and brake handles which might get expensive. The easiest swap would be to a better-designed drop handlebar. The frame is not suspension-corrected so you should probably only fit a fork with gravel-type suspension length, otherwise, you will be affecting the steering geometry. That said, there are suspension forks with 12mm through-axels so that would work with the dynamo. It is a great value bike but making too many changes will cost money and I would consider if there are other bikes that are more like what you want to begin with. That is often not the case, though; sometimes you just have to fiddle around to get the bike you want. :)
How would you rate the Ortlieb tail pack? Was thinking about trying out the 16l version.
Месяц назад
It is ok but I have come to decide that I don't like tail packs. Much prefer a light rack. Doesn't move around and gives many more options. So I am not the right person to ask about the tail pack, moved away from it rather quickly... :)
What do you think could be a reasonable maximum weight in this bag? I have a relatively smal camera and only one Lens. All in my camera gear should be bellow one kg i think
Месяц назад
Not sure if I can tell you a max weight but a small camera and lens should not be any problem. I carried a Panasonic S5 with a 20-60 zoom and a 50mm 1.8 which worked but was starting to get a bit heavier than I liked in the bag.
Two seconds in and I notice no mudguards (fenders). [It's a touring bike Jim, but not as I know it; don't ride it in the rain, or after heavy rain or muddy soft ground because you'll... continued page 94.]

I think you might have missed what sort of "touring" bike this is. It is an off-road, bikepacking bike where fenders often are more in the way rather than a nice accessory. I certainly would not have wanted mudguards while I was struggling through the peanut butter mud on some of the gravel roads in Spain.
If the video was labelled as about a gravel bike or for bikepacking (off-road or not) I wouldn't have clicked on it. Perhaps there is another marketing niche opening up which will confuse the staff of bike shops even more than they are already.
Thank you for your review. Ive used mine exclusively as with trekking poles. I have a trip planned with beach/sand campsites and was considering just getting a new freestanding tent. Your videos convinced me just to get the add on kit.
As far as I know, wild camping is not allowed in France or Germany. That said, there were plenty of places to camp on the sly and it should not be any problem as long as you take the usual free camping precautions. Very nice section of the trail and plenty of great views!
How do you find the wider drops on the handlebars? Is it easy to reach the brakes when your hands are in the drops? I really love the look of this bike: I'm very close to buying one but I am a flat handlebar guy and I am a little wary of drop handlebars and hoods only because the braking and bike control always seems more difficult with these handlebar types, can you give me any advice about your experience with the 920? Thanks for another great video!
I really like the comfortable position that riding in the hoods gives on longer flat rides but... I hate the drops, especially on these bars. I find them more or less useless. I would very much prefer a flat bar with back-sweep for downhill and rough sections. That said, there are other dropbars that are better but I am probably going to remain a flat-bar guy. But that is one of the only things I would change on this bike, it is really good value in every other way.
A few years back I moved my handlebar bag to the top of my front rack. It lowers the center of gravity and more important improves control by taking weight of the handlebars. I also moved my front light and bike computer to the top of the handlebar bag. Small dry bags make a handy washing machine.
thank you! nice review! two thinksw Im wondering: If its packed to max its quite high and im worried that gets annoying that the view im front of you is partially blocked...and the ropes look so thin that I kinda cant imagine that this will hold forever ^^
Yes, if you load it up fully it can get tall but it is possible to angle it downward. How much depends on your bike and bar setup. The mounting ropes look thin but I had no problem with durability despite probably having too much weight in the bag when I was using it to carry my camera equipment.
I mounted an 11-46 cassette without any problems but even that is outside the recommended range. I doubt that an 11-50 would work. But I can't be sure... :)
Very nice review! Do you think this could sleep 2 adults comfortably with their packs? Really like this tent, but want to make sure before making the purchase! Wanting to pull the trigger on this for our thru hike of the JMT this summer!
It is a roomy 2-person tent but 2 people with packs would probably be a stretch. But if you were to put the packs in the abide, outside the mosquito netting but still under cover there would be plenty of room.
I did map most of it on komoot but do not have it as a single file or route. I essentially followed the route that is available on the website, europeandividetrail.com/gps-files/ ,
i want so mutch to do this, iam making money , and i set it to start in april next year, iam gonna work 1 more year and just quit everything and go into that journey from portugal till netherlands, i cant wait really, thanks for the video ❤
I went 42 days in the hospital only drinking a glass of milk and sometimes a cookie and lost 45 lbs. Didn't eat anything but one or two hospital cookies per day. They were giving me big meals but their food was horrible. I refused to eat it. I looked great with a flat belly but left the hospital in a wheelchair. Lost tons of muscle mass laying in a bed for 42 days. I made up for lost time when I got out.
Hi, I bought this bike too but have found the gear range is not adequate for steep hill climbing. I took it to the bike shop to try and convert to a 3x sora set up but frame rub was an issue and the upgrade was reversed. Do you have any suggestions for a 2x conversion that will work?
The frame is the same as on the Riverside 900 which I 3x so there should really be no problem with the right equipment. Just check what gears are used on the 900…
Hello! I discovered your channel around last summer when I got a 2 day long obsession with the European Divide Trail, and since then I’ve been watching your videos. I’m interested to see what you have in plans (I’m already interested in your Specialized Hardrock series, as I own a Specialized Rockhopper from the same era) and I would like to thank you for making such a great content. Especially the European Divide video got me into bikepacking and I will always be thankful for that. Greetings from the Netherlands!
