Hello, I am Daniel Scuria-Herman, I'm a 19 year-old Writing student. I'm here to make videos essentially to express my opinions, and I'd like to promote fruitful discussion, so feel free to share yours as well.
6:00 we’re all still trying to formulate language to describe this art form. And I’ve been listening since 2000. It begs the question: at what point does rap transition into high art? Sure it’s all art, but so is a toddler’s doodle
One of the things that hit me the most about this song is the beginning of the verses, the "I used to ____, hard to admit that I used to _____." Becuse I drew every day when I was younger but I hardly ever do now. But I still can't say that I used to, because if I do then I an admiting to myself that I no longer draw anymore and that I left that behind, and I belive that's what those lines mean in this song.
It's a very powerful sentiment that Aesop expressed very well in this song. There's a lot of things that we leave behind as we get older that our brains refuse to let us recognize, or else we'd fall into a deep pit of regret.
So one thing I realized while editing - I missed one of the major themes of the song, the symbolism of wood and trees. While I referenced it a couple times, I never went in depth, especially with how it related to the music video as well as the chorus. So I just wanted to put that out there that I figured it out but only after recording this, so sorry guys.
to add to this: counting a trees rings is a way to discern the age of the tree. The chorus kind of insinuates that society will kill you, your art, your entire existence just to dissect your life analytically and place you into a neat taxonomical shelf.
The fact you ended that video by mentioning how you usually don’t see nighttime outside means the only next possible option is: “Daylight” orrrr a 2-for-1 special with “Daylight/Night light” in one video. Nonetheless, “Daylight” has to be next. It is time.
The video was drawn and animated by Aesop. As others have mentioned, Rings is a great song that provides a window into his background and training as a young visual artist. Also, the video for the song Zero Dark Thirty, while not animated, has a similar concept, with the background constantly changing as Aes remains static. It's a much different approach, but a common theme.
Speaking of excommunication, leisureforce is one of my favorites. You like that one too. Or maybe I’d just like to see you react to it😂 Anyway I love your stuff bro
@@austinmcculley4057 bruh hes new to hip hop and you want him to understand aesop day one. must be young and exciteable. post your epoc reaction with lyrical representation and ill watch it. otherwise sit. adults are speaking
@maineiacial Wow, an incel ass response. Good job, lil buddy, you really got me. "Adults are talking," is something a self respecting adult wouldn't say. You don't need to produce something to criticize it. This is laughably bad. Man said he's a writing major and is using words wrong and not even paying attention to lyrics, or probably more accurately, not understanding them. He should be embarrassed to have posted this and/or want criticism to improve. Criticism is that he should not jump in the deep end if he can't swim.
ok so this track is similar in my mind to another great hip hop group, Atmosphere. their song Puppets talks lot in a similar vein. i feel like you would pick up on the vibe alot easier. im over 50 and started listening when i was a kid. i can turn you on to any style youd like to explore
youre flying right by these bars. im on that fine piece, you on that fine meth. hes comparing the mumble rappers youre speaking about to the real hip hop scene. he does the same in Dorks. you cant be cooler than the corners where you source all your parts. hes critical of the puke that mainstream media feeds you. thats why its odd to see a pile of imperfections and flaws, ascend a pedestal to patronize the rest of the cogs
AES always pushing the limits of ones' ability to picture the story to the next levels. Painting whole chapters in the space of a couplet if you know how the references bounce off each other.
6:50 that’s why AES rarely discusses the specific meaning of certain verses, he only really talks about the meaning of the song as a whole. Everyone draws meaning from art differently
cuz like DUH, Aes has track bout Idolized Art/Artists, called "On Failure". He doesn't really rap, just talks over a beat about kinda starting to like a Van Gogh painting & what he found when he looked up Van Gogh's Wikipedia page. it's ONLY 2MINUTES BUT IT'S CLEVER, WITTY & ENDEARING, but it does sounds like he's PARKING THE JOINT in a stoner circle
@6:18 "maybe it's A to B to C to D" to add the Aes line that speaks to ur speak, it's aes doing 2 sides of a conversation again, "You can know it all & never know you haven't actually departed point A. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, You sayin' there's a B? No, I'm saying you won't ever need to limit the edition when you're free. woah So, what do you do when you get to Z?" it's from All the Smartest People which is dope & while not in my Top 20 Aes tracks, it is top tier in it's originality, even for Aes
@@dshman ooohhhh kinda like Aes saying "MY HORSE DRINKS ON IT'S OWN I DON'T GOTTA DO SHIIIT" AKA the old saying, 'u can lead a horse to water but u can't make it drink" LOL
dude PAUSE ALL U WANT aka REACT!! lol if cats want no pauses there is a vid for that I WOULD SUGGEST THO AFTER U PAUSE, REWIND 5secs using the left arrow/10secs w/ J just cuz us reaction loving folks LOVE when a pausable part is run back & we get sad when the words after pause spot are missed U STILL B IN MY TOP 5 AES REACTORS & I STALK AES REACTION VIDS SOOOO THANK YOU!!! i dig ur reactions if u don't pause i might have to stalk the folks that commented hoping to squash ur thoughts
These guys dont deserve any. I have no symapthy considering what their victims went through. WE need to do this in the West and stop th estupid sofy on crime garbage we are doing now.
Yo man Aesop helped me through a lot of shit cuz we have the same affliction, came upon your page listening to Aesop vids, see you just started homie, i subscribed, best of luck to you my friend.
You should check the crime rate in El Salvador before and after the implementation of these prisons (from 6,5 thousands murders a year to 150), and you should ask the voters that reelected the president with a much bigger majority for his second reelection for implementing these. El Salvadorians have peace again. Cheers ✌️
Casual Geographic made a video on pigeons, too. He talks about their (false) reputation of being rats with wings and where their image for being dirty came from.
Thank you for reacting bro!! I feel she is one of those writers that knows how to put so much into few lyrics!! If you want more Aes you should check out gopher guts at some point. If you want another off the wall suggestion that I think you would feel the positivity on and probably like...also he allows reactors to react to his content. Ren- Hi Ren! It is a great start, it's more of an art piece than song. I appreciate you!
Great reaction bro!! I would actually like to see you react to some of kimyas solo stuff!! She has a couple songs one called Fire and walk like thunder. Preferably the live version of both because she does a great job live.
You literally let the song play for 2 to 8 seconds at a time. At least let it play for like 8 bars or something. It's impossible to get a feel for the song when you do that. And it's impossible for me to watch these reactions. Aesop is my favorite artist in the world, and i watch all reactions to his music except yours. Which is sad because I enjoy your insight, but trying to watch your reactions is just tough. Nothing against you, personally. I think you're a swell guy. Food for thought
You can fall down some deep rabbit holes breaking down Aesop lyrics but sometimes it's cool to just take it at face valeu: it's a rap about drawing pigeons. I love videos of people hearing Asop for the first time. Living vicaiousy through people that get the chance to discover Aes with the hope that it starts a 20+ year journey makes me happy. I would like to suggest wrapping your head around The Impossible Kid. Aesop Rock is not your typical rapper, like Primus is their own genre, Aesop Rock is a different genre.
I've come a long way since this video and discovered a lot more Aesop. Also, I appreciate your words about taking the song at face value: I try not to get everything "right" in these reactions, I'm mostly going for authenticity and what I feel about them. While I try to figure out what the deeper meaning of the song is at times (like with my most recent reaction) I mostly try to appreciate the song for what it is. Thanks for stopping by!
“Aquarium” and “Delicate cycle” were two of the most popular from this album. I love the whole thing though really and I love your reactions. “TV on 10” is a great story too. 🤘🏼🤘🏼 and “Bats” is one of my personal favorites.
