Back with another hit from our friend Aesop Rock, this time more of spoken word poetry than a song. Kind of dissatisfied with my reaction (I was tired at the time) but I'm going to upload this so I can move on to better things. Let me know what you think down below!

this song gets better every time you listen to it. Now that you know what it's about, you can close your eyes and picture it happening as the song is playing. That's the dude's wizardry. "Off into the yawning blue, The splash would mum the rocketships" is one of my favorite bars of his.

"Aesop Rock x Blockhead - Jazz Hands" to get you some good Blockhead exposure at the same time. THE lyric that pulled me into my love of Aes was from this song: "Some days, I wanna build a rocket to the Kármán line Ten, nine, eight, keep your head and arms inside, yeah"

I struggle to imagine all the different videos that are playing in peoples minds listening to this song

Ha. I love that people are still just discovering Aes. Welcome to the rabbit hole, my friend. Give The Uncluded a listen. It’s Aesop and Kimya Dawson’s little folk/hip hop hybrid album and it’s wildly inventive.

TV on 10 (based on a true story about AES and his friends) and Walk Like Thunder are amazing.

Thanks for the reactions I enjoy them. Also, not sure why I wrote a small book, but I did. It appears you like cats, you should check out the song and video “Kirby” by Aesop. It’s a fun song that’s easy to digest about his cat and in a way their life together. From the album The Impossible Kid, described as “elaborate wordplay to offer us a simple yet powerful glimpse at his scarred psyche." BTW he’s grew up on Long Island, university in Boston, followed by NYC. Anyway, he produced The Impossible Kid, wrote the songs, made the beats alone and isolated in a barn in the woods. He escaped from his adopted home of San Francisco fleeing to the barn after a turbulent period of rocky relationships with family and others. The project is about his mental health, isolation, depression, inability to maintain relationships, the death of a friend, his cat, and efforts to get to where he can feel” normal.” Sounds like a lot but it is easily his most approachable and personal album. He also released the full album on RU-vid set to a full shot-by-shot recreation of Stanley Kubrick ‘s film The Shining. The movie uses clay figurine and was done by Rob Shaw. Check out KIRBY

That sounds really cool, and I think it would be nice to have something visual to react to as well! Thanks for the suggestion.

This is based on a true story. There is a short video where Aes talks about the news story. One of my favorites!

That sound you made of people talking in the background is a "sussurus". Good to know if you check out the song "Shrunk".

Loving the reactions, and enjoying the zoological theme. There are a few interesting animals in the hooks of Gopher Guts. No gophers, though (gotta wait til Blood Sandwich before you really get a gopher from Aesop)...but Gopher Guts is one of my all time favorite Aes Rock tracks. The final verse is particularly raw.

I was listing animal songs in my head, then trying to think of any song that doesn't mention animals. I thought "Button Masher" shouldn't and checked- "open beaks", "cat food" and "Laika". Still trying...

Since you both definitely have an affinity for his relationship with his cat, Kirby, and have also stuck with the animal based themes, I think the next logical song to venture into would be “Kirby”. It’s literally just about his cat and why/how he came to have her. But given your writing knowledge/background, I personally would love to hear your thoughts on “Shrunk” and/or “Daylight”, just for funzies.
@ju4408

Shrunk with Kirby is a must. Get of the Car needs some extra context to understand its place with those two, but really all of The Impossible Kid flows together so smoothly, you can get so much out of it without needing all the details.
@jamesoblivion

To me, Get Out of the Car, Shrunk, and Kirby are an inseparable trilogy. Get Out of the Car takes place in his therapist's parking lot, it leads directly into Shrunk.
@misterflowjangles
@misterflowjangles Месяц назад
@@jamesoblivion I guess the easiest way to explain it is this: At the end of each song, imagine what question a shrink would follow up each theme and ask. And the next song is Aes’ response to the question. BS: Shrink: “Why write this? Why preemptively worry bout your brothers should you die?” Aes: “How I felt after Camu Tao…” Shrink: “And how did you feel after Camu Tao?” After GOOTC ends: “So how do you finally get out of the car? What’s the first move?” Shrunk: “ok, so here are and you’re still not fully out the car… so, uhh… idk; maybe get a kitten? You need something to feel attached to, responsible for, and to love unconditionally while feeling all of those back in return.” And well, you know what happens next.
