What a wonderful treat seeing your vid and not having to wait months, Gianluca! Beautiful footage and images. Not a typical tourist perspective. Effective choice of music. Narration in English, just fine👍😊. Awe and wonder, with subtle messages about humanity, and photography come through quite well. Markets are terrific places to capture great photos - wish more of the vid had shown the market. Did you get lots of photos there that you will show in follow-up videos? Cheers!
Good vid.. Cosina made your version of the Vivitar (serial starting 9). This version is sharper corner to corner than the Tokina made version. Several others also had a hand in producing the 24mm.. They all have certain benefits and disadvantages but the one you have is unanimously voted best everywhere.. Keep up the good work : )
What others 24mm vintage lens do you recomend? I look for character .. 24mm in aps-c makes 35mm.. good focal for me..also share with you manual focus experience (using zone focusing) for street photography..Un saludo!
Hola Miguel, thanks for this comment. I actually have no other 24 mm lenses to suggest, since this Vivitar is my "best to" for street photography. Hope to try something new soon and get back here 📸
I don't know what I think of your interpretation of "street photography". For my taste, you put your camera in people's faces too much. For me, street photography is unobtrusive and thus shows the authenticity of the impressions. There are also certain laws in Germany that regulate this. If you only use people as accessories, that's okay. But sometimes you photograph people full frame, which is not allowed. I know you're a foreigner and you probably don't care about the law here in Germany, but out of respect for a foreign country, you should reconsider the way you take photos. I'm sure you didn't ask any of the passers-by for permission.
thanks for sharing your opinion about this topic man. I understand and always try to shoot with respect and kindness. Yes, sometimes I've been a bit too close to people and never had a complaint from anyone. I am always open to deleting pictures if someone asks me 🙂
Pentax cameras have image stabilization in camera. Plus form factor of this lens when used with a Pentax camera is amazing. Try the experience if you please.
It's a cheapo but the image quality is really decent. One of these (but the M version) was my first prime, it came along with my first SLR, a K1000, in 1985...
That's so impressive to me that such kind of vintage lenses are still so popular nowadays! I agree, they really give back a decent image quality. I've used this Pentax 50mm on some of my freelance works and no client spotted the difference with a modern lens 📸
Welcome back, Gianluca. Quality POV, pics and music - jazz a good choice for the uplifting mood. Candid closing, a plus. Unless you were using zone focusing, manual focusing on-the-go can be a challenge for street photography. You did quite well. Venue lighting also looked challenging - clear skys, bright sun, high dynamic range of tones. Your Sony performed fine. Favs are pidgeon at 3.4 and couple at 4.30. Upward looking perspective a plus. Were you shooting from the hip? Suggestion to boost channel exposure, views, and potential subs: in every post description add one or more content related hashtags (like #streetphotographyineurope, #SonyA73). Numbering images would also encourage comments😊. Keep the posts coming as best you can (I realize you are a busy pro) and your channel is sure to grow in 2024. Happy New Year, Gianluca!
Hey Paul, thanks for sharing yours on this vid. Couple at 4.3 is one of my favs as well. Yes, I was shooting from the hip and they knew I was photographing. They seemed to be ok with it and smiled at me (or not, I still don't know). Manual focusing on the go is surely challenging, but also very funny to try. I will try to add hashtags to descriptions, never thought about it. Thanks, I truly appreciate it!
Can you photograph people in Germany???? I have been told by the police that it's against the law and they even took my camera away and deleted pictures that weren't even close to yours ( by that i mean i was further away from people)
I think that if you photograph people for "artistic purpose" and you do not use the images for commercial use you are OK. After all you are not hurting anybody in anyway. Think about it 🙂
I don't know, never tried Fuji cameras. I certainly will in the future .. Honestly, I actually prefer Sony but I keep my door open to explore. Are you a Fuji shooter? If so, which model?
@@gianlucairaggi For my work, I shoot Canon for almost 2 decades.... A few years ago I've bought A Sony a7III as a daily/street/travel camera but sold it after almost a year to try Fuji. I've picked XT3 for many reasons, and I'm super happy with it... Felt in love with Fuji system immediately, colours, size/weight/ ergonomics/ jpg profile options etc etc.... I don't mind it being an APSC sensor at all, and I was super sceptic about it before I bought it.... It's such a pleasure to use this camera.... now I'm waiting for XPro4. I've got Vivitar 24mm and 135 mm amongst many other manual lenses... the Images Fuji produces with those old manuals are simply exceptional. All the best to You
I have the Sony a7iv and a Fuji xt5 and the fuji colors are really something else. A7iv for work and xt5 for actually having fun taking pictures. Sony has way better sharpness than Fuji, but sometimes you don’t want that ultra clear picture and want it to be more “vintage” looking. I suggest you rent it out one day to test it out. Great video by the way!
Hey man I'm new to your channel. I really enjoyed how the video was put together! It was well shot, well paced, well edited. But the audio was really bad I'm sorry :(. Maybe look into de-essing your recordings because it was really really distracting
@@gianlucairaggi no problem man! I literally just came across your channel this morning. The algorithm suggested your video haha. I really love your photography. Looking forward to what you do next 👍
Respectable post, Gianluca👍. Vid shows that vintage lens + capable (Italian)😁 photographer = fine photography. Uplifting choice of music - drum solo adds to the mood. History a plus. Noticed that the lens has an old Nikon mount; so, adapter would be Nikon to Sony, yes? I’ve had a few Vivitar lenses and your comments are spot on about their performance. The company was bought out by Sakar - you can still buy a few new Vivitar branded budget lenses, but you get what you pay for. (Sample: $84 US for 420-800mm f/ 8.3 manual focus T-mount push-pull zoom lens.) Talking head segment audio has a bit of reverb. Some sound absorbing stuff in the room might help - also, if you tried pinning the mic to your t-shirt. Congrats on 500 subs🎉. Keep posting, Gianluca, and you will pass the 1K mark in no time. Would love to see more street photography vids featuring you home town. Cheers!
Thanks man, really appreciate these kinds of comments🙏 You are right, the adapter is Nikon to Sony. I will try to improve audio in the room while I record, I am still working on that studio in my free time, it's a bit time-consuming so I do what I can do 😅
Welcome back, Gianluca! Five months too long between regular posts. Hope you are well. Quality video, music choice and pacing. Text overlays, a plus - “bad ass” joke, too😊. Another advantage to the wider lens for street photography is greater depth of field, so as to better compose “layered” photos, and compensate for slight focus miss shots. Agree? IMO, the “best” focal length is what matches your photographic field of “attention”. Some prefer a more narrow field, some wider. I don’t get your response to the question about what lens you were using - in the vid we see an adapted Nikon (film) lens mounted on your Sony. So, no EXIF data and manual focus and exposure. You really deserve more subs. To increase your potential viewers/subs, I suggest adding one or more hashtags (like “#streetphotography” and “#photographingItaly” in the description. Numbering images would also help viewers comment. Ciao!
Hey there, yes 5 months is definitely too long. I'll try to post more frequently! Thanks for your appreciation! I agree with the greater depth of field, something I have been exploring during the last months. It also adds complexity to the process of composing your images. I am about to release a review video about the lens, it will hopefully come soon. "You really deserve more subs" -> really loved this, thank you for your suggestions and feedback!
@@gianlucairaggi I believe YT is less likely to include vids in feeds to viewers (potential subs) for channels that post infrequently - the algorithm thing. Also, subs might be tempted to “unsub” as part of YT “housekeeping” if a channel appears dormant. You look very much alive, so I look forward to the lens vid.👍
Great video. I’m starting to like 24 better than 28. I have the samyang 24mm f2.8 and the field of view is perfect in my opinion for street or if you travel somewhere on holiday. Which manual lens were you shooting on?
Hey, hi Xhynet! thanks for your comment. During this last session, I was using a Vivitar 24 mm F2.8 vintage lens. Manual focus, very lightweight, less scary than ever .. so much fun. This lens sometimes makes a vignette effect, quite singular to me since I've never seen something before 🤨 Samyang 24 mm F2.8 great lens man! Cheap and efficient.
@@xhynetuseinovski Yes, I'd say that is due to my perfect "handling" of manual focus .. But it's not 😂 I kept my aperture to over 9 and I added some sharpness in post-production. But the quality of this old lens is very high, also it is well maintained cause the photographer I bought it from was so diligent in it. Unfortunately, I am not. Anyway, I am about to release a review video for this specific lens.
Thanks! I honestly think the process of photographing streets hasn't changed so much in the last half-century or more 🙂 Btw I am about to release a new vintage lens street POV vid, this time with a 24 mm. So stay tuned if interested 📸
Points taken. Do those tools behind you have something to do with your non-photo graphic relaxation pursuits? Creatives should not get hung up in what others think. Do what comes naturally and you will find your own audience. Ciao!

Cartier Bresson must be turning over in his grave.
Deep theme. Too short to cover in 1 min vid. IMO we all start w/child-like creativity at high levels, then life constrains output. Still there, however.
Relaxing and touching vid. Good music choice. Recently found your channel and subscribed. You come across as genuine, without the distracting hype of so many other channels. Suggestion: number images to make it easier for viewers to comment. Ciao.
I lived 11 years in Munich, a town (I would say that the same thing would apply to almost the entire Bavaria) of Nazis, haughty and arrogant people who pretend to be rich but, a part from a bunch of Daddy's boys, they are not! I'm glad to be back in my beautiful Lake Zurich (Switzerland), where people are really rich but they don't like to show it! off Salaries for a Software Architect like me are in Switzerland 10 times higher than in Munich (which is 'supposed' to have the 'highest' salaries within all Germany....in your dreams!.....) and as a hobbyist photographer I never shot any picture in Munich: I hated that place so much, but I lived there because I was fiancé with a Norwegian girl who was working in Munich. Now back in Switzerland my inspiration for photography has come back!
A city of Nazis? Are you out of your mind? Do you have any idea how much your statement insults and defames us Germans? How can you generalize an entire federal state so much? I've lived in Bavaria all my life and would love to kick your ass for this comment!
Very lovely! My fiancé is from Vasto, so we go there several times a year, can't count the amount of photos I have of Punta Penna. Such an amazing place.
Yes, I totally agree, this is an amazing place for cliff and seaside photography in Italy .. I think I'm going to go back here in winter hoping to find a different "mood" 🙂
