We own and operate one of the world's last living time machines: Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive no. 765. Our mission as a caretaker of history that inspires the senses and quickens the pulse is to provide outstanding, hands-on, educational experiences and to preserve, restore, and operate historic railroad equipment and artifacts significant to Northeast Indiana. Climb aboard and join us!
NKP #358 and #765 make a good team. A freshly restored SD9 and berkshire pulling a train. Thanks Progress Rail for restoring the SD9 back to NKP colors
These locomotives were built to tackle the grades solo or Doublehead on these kind of runs just like the articulated locomotives did with heavy freight. Nothing can stop the power of steam.
I use that whistle for my Bachmann HO scale J3a Hudson model, and it fits it wonderfully. It’s loud and booming, and it conveys the same sense of power and strength that the real J3a Hudsons were often associated with. The real J3a Hudsons wore whistles of the same type as the Nathan 6 chime on 765, and it’s clear to see why. They’re beautiful whistles that sound great on both freight and passenger locomotives.
I use that whistle on my J3a Hudson locomotive model, and it fits really nicely. It perfectly conveys that sense of strength, power, and prestige that the J3a Hudsons and S2 Berkshires carried in real life. I couldn’t think of any better a whistle for such beautiful and massive engines. It’s even prototypical to the J3as, mainly because the NYC’s Hudsons (along with most of their other large passenger locomotives) wore Nathan long-bell 6 chimes.
Just watched it go by right after this was posted on way to Hillsdale. I think I'm going to film it if I can catch it going back to Edon today, or on way to Jonesville tomorrow.
I Can't Wait To See Her Pulling Excursions With Her Returned 90s 6 Chime Whistle! Oh I Wonder What Second Whistle Will 765 Wear On The The Second Whistle Valve?
Dear fort wayne, if possible after purchasing NKP 624, could you possibly restore it for operation? idk if you have the money, but its just my idea and my suggestion, its up to you to decide.
