I'm Irene and I'm happy to share my arting experiences with you. I've had decades of doodling but - since falling in love with watercolors - painting is a new challenge. I share the good, the bad, and the ‘maybe a thick marker will help’ as I hone my craft through practice and loose standards.
I am in western Washington State, in the greater Seattle area.
Thanks Irene! I enjoyed watching your art works and listening to you. Hope you are getting better after the wrist injury. It is interesting to see how your progress and development in art has shaped your need for different brushes. It is a natural prpgression. Like you, I have quite a collection after a few years. It felt overwhelming to gonto the art shop and see a wall full of brushes -not knowing what they are good for. I now notice that I know what I want and go to the same wall to pick the brush I need for my next project. We all evolve as artists. I also grew to appreciate the art of brush making. At first I thought brushes were too expensive. Later, Today saw how DaVinci, Escoda or Rosemary make their brushes -there are very skilled and trained paint brish malets putting the bristles together by hand. I never complained again 😂. I am so appreciative now and gladly buy from those brands where hand brushes are still the standard.
@@INCWorks I think a few people prefer hearing about the inks, but in my opinion the visual tells me all I need to know. It’s ink, I really just like to see the color. Keep doing you , peace ☮️
Oh my goodness. Came here while furiously researching how to use my latest artistic acquisition (that I bought on a whim, because of course I did), but was so pleasantly surprised to discover that I absolutely freaking loved the commentary. You've immediately become one of my favourite artists on RU-vid, I think I could listen to your random musings all day while drawing and painting! Excuse me while I go watch everything else on the channel...
I enjoy all the Deadpool movies and this one was no exception. But, if you haven't watched any of them, all the interviews with Ryan and Hugh are adorable. They are great together. They did the ones where they play with puppies and where they each get hooked up to a polygraph. You can tell just how much they like each other. Also, audiobooks while painting is a great idea. My ADHD means I have to do at least two things at a time or I'll explode.

"PIS for short" got a good laugh out of me lmaooo the gold looks great on this paper! I really like all the color mixes in this piece, I think they work really well together, but the gold really brings it home 😊
I could say I am infatuated with it, though. I wish you could see how much this reminds me of my very first introduction to gouache - the background scenes of Disney's Sleeping Beauty. Irene - watching you paint this beautiful, freely organic tree was like watching my mom explain to 4-year-old me how painting the gouache cels for animation worked. I'm blown away once again, and also once again, have you to thank for adding a joyful memory to my day! I always am rapt by your narrative. Today was no exception. Ah, the tears.... I'm sorry to say I remember this phase of menopause. Welcome to several years of not knowing what's coming next. The only advice my doctor had for me was "yeah - we don't really know too much about it...expect it to last about 10 years." Hopefully your time in Menopause Hell (arguable the scariest horror film of all) is brief.
Ann, your words are a huge comfort to me. 💛Sometimes I wonder if eyes are rolling while 'What's her problem?' is muttered underbreath. And that's just in my household! So, it's really nice to know that all of this is totally normal. Hearing about your memories and exeriences is always wecome. 😊They feed the brain and heart, keeping the wheel of inspiration rolling. That was too many metaphors in one sentence, but - for six in the morning - it's not bad.
The gouache on black paper is very striking, I do like the gold accents. They make the picture more lively. Blick is has their watercolor 9x12 pads and others on a 2 for 1 sale if you didn't know. So you are a fan of the cozy mystery? Did you watch Murder She Wrote? Personally I'd never move to Cabot Cove Maine, it seems like the murder capital of the East Coast. I get a lot of my audiobooks for free from the library if that's your jam. One of my favorite cozy mystery series is Her Royal Spyness by Rhys Bowen. It is set in the UK starting in the post WW 1, pre WW 2 era. Katherine Kellgren is an AMAZING narrator. TBH chocolate is not the first thing I think of when I think of pool parties. I just imagine all those chocolates melting in to one big gooey mess, not that it would stop me eating them. I'd just have to ignore the stares as I licked melted chocolate off the little paper candy cups.

But I've watched a lot of the RU-vid channel Pushing Up Roses and her video series 'That Time on Murder She Wrote'. Yes, I'm a cozy fan and I've now made a note to check out 'Her Royal Spyness'. This is lovely on the black. It really came alive with the gold accents. Those Derwent Drawing pencils are tops in my books! IMO even better than Luminance. (Gasp!) Yes I said it. Dreamy colors and creamy leads. I bought the Strathmore toned pads to see how they do on those, and love them on both. OoOo maybe a jack-o-lantern on the black? Girl, I hear you on the crying thing! I used to hate Hallmark card ads, or even Maxwell House. Now it's everything. Ugh! You crack me up! PIS indeed! Thanks for a fabulous laugh this morning! ♥

Thanks for sharing the behind the scenes of your color mixing process. This project/series has inspired me to experiement with my colors doing it the way you do here. Ive gotten to know my colors much better and what i can mix up! The painting is great and for what its worth i dont think she has a big forhead at all! I actually bought my first pack of Princeton Neptunes because of your videos and to this day they're still my favorite brushes 😊😊 I totally feel you about the loose watercolor florals haha, it's just not really my thing, but I get that other people really like them. I think sketches n scrubs has my favorite style of loose florals, she uses super bright colors for hers and also includes a lot of gold details! it's super lovely to watch 😍
I remember all of these videos! I may have to revisit them, loved them all. So many great pieces. I'm pretty sure it was your channel that turned me onto the Snap brushes. Everyone else was touting the praises of silver black velvet. I sold the SBV's I had, they were so floppy. Now I love using squirrel quills. This was a fun walk down memory lane. Thanks Irene! I love my Aqua Elites and my Neptunes, too. Other favorites are DaVinci Colineo and Escoda Ultimo. Yes, different qualities of the brushes make the magic happen easier for different techniques.
I absolutely love how much work you put into your videos. No wonder they are excellent!💜 I’ll have to go look at the paints in my Mijello pure pigment set. I don’t remember a Cobalt Black and I’m really liking how moody that mix is. Great choices of mixes btw! You can really see how that PV19 is a bit of a bully! It really overtakes the spotlight…which is great, actually. It’s one of my favorite colors, actually. Ah, the deleted abyss…sorry that happened to you and I, too, like your ambiguous nail polish😊
There may have been a few replacement colors between production runs of the Pure Pigment set? I noticed a couple of differences amongst all of the videos I've seen. Of course, the 24-color version has a different line-up. For a long time, I stayed away from black watercolor, but I was happy to discover they can bring interest to a palette. And I like how you describe PV19 as a 'bully'. 😄It's true!
Quinacridone violet (PV19) is my favorite in pretty much any brand to me available. ❤ It is kind of a magical color that mixes well even skin tones. I just love it.
Sorry about the lost footage. I guess the paint wasn't having it, Mijelno to your video. I was inspired to buy this brand from your demos. I still enjoyed your work!
I'm so sad that you fell off your pedestal lol. Now I don't feel so bad when I mess up my paintings and want to just throw it away.
