Most of my angling these days is based around short sessions close to home. This is a place where I share some of my angling knowledge and experiences with the wider world. I don't want to give everything away but I do hope that a little bit of info here and there can be of some help to others. Enjoy!

A belated happy 50th! What a fantastic string of gorgeous winter Thames chub, I absolutely love doing this myself on the Thames. I didn't get out much at all last season but watching your series has really got me inspired for this season. I hope to find some decent Roach as well. Fantastic to see barbel showing too. Thanks for the uploads.

How is it that you can night fish the thames, A lot of tickets there's no night fishing 😮😮 P.s goring let's you night fish
@mrpaulcake
@mrpaulcake 8 дней назад
There are clubs that allow night fishing on some stretches (I am a bailiff for Abingdon & Oxford Anglers Alliance and they have night fishing on some of their stretches for example). There are also some private syndicate stretches of the Thames that allow night fishing

Love your videos. Do u still use hinders elips dumbells pellets etc. If soo do u use them all Yr round winter flood conditions etc. Or switch to Pepperami in winter flood conditions. Just bought my 1st batch of hinders elips dumbells that's why asking never used emm b4.

@@kaimichael5444 Hi Kai. I’m happy to still use hinders elips pellets but I tend to change to boilies towards the end of autumn and through winter. I don’t use pellets once the temperatures drop off.

Does that feeder come with its own swivel, thanks
@mrpaulcake
@mrpaulcake 2 месяца назад
It does come with a swivel but I change it for a swivel that comes out of the rubber sleeve a little easier when under pressure to remove the risk of it tethering a fish if there is a line break. Alternatively can use pliers to slightly crush the eye of the swivel it comes with so it is slightly slimmer and therefore releases easier but still provides a bolt rig effect

This rig produced my best Tench session more than 20 years ago on a Hertfordshire Carp water resulting in my biggest Tench and three others of good size. 10lb.14ozs, 9lb 12oz, 9lb 3ozs and 8lb. 7ozs. Plus an 18lb Mirror carp.
@mrpaulcake
@mrpaulcake 3 месяца назад
That is a fabulous session. As anglers we are often swayed by fashions and trends and move away from methods and rigs that work well. Heli-rigs and worm kebabs are the order of the day right now but inline feeders and short hook lengths still catch me lots of fish 👍🏻

@@mrpaulcake it’s worked in the colder months on medium sized gravel pits for roach for me on many occasions when the rivers have been out of sorts,I’ve on occasions used a three foot section of old fast sink fly line in front of the feeder keeping it pinned on the bottom.

What do you reckon caused the injured barbel ? otter Pike Anyway great video
@mrpaulcake

Most likely an otter I would think. I do occasionally see them in the area but very rarely do I catch barbel or chub with this sort of damage to be honest.

Superb video Paul. I'm glad you got amongst some decent chub and to top it off with a Thames barbel is no mean feat. Its been a frustrating start to the year but hopefully the summer fishing can redeem it. I look forward to seeing how you get on with your tench fishing.
@mrpaulcake
@mrpaulcake 5 месяцев назад
Cheers Matt. Quite a long way short of some of your epic chub captures this season but the last week or so have at least thrown up a few fish to help scratch that itch after so much challenging fishing over the last few months.

Great effort Paul, what a nightmare of a season it's been on the Thames. I had a 5-14-0 chub last Friday on the cherwell where it meets the Thames in Oxford and that's been about it. I'm hoping to have a go for barbel this afternoon/evening if I can find somewhere fishable through Oxford. Good luck with the tench fishing.

Thanks. It’s been frustrating and always sad to see the end of the season, especially when I feel like I haven’t had my fill of the chub or barbel, but as soon as I start tinca-ring with my tench stuff I’ll be happy again. Nice chub by the way 👍🏻

Which rig are you referring to Eddie? And what isn’t safe about it?
@eddieellmore9094
@eddieellmore9094 2 года назад
@@mrpaulcake hi Paul like most of these rigs now used ,if the main line breaks above the feeder with a fish in tow is the line free nough to pull through the attached feeder or lead .like most of the heli rigs that have beads and stops other side of the swivel. Ps I like your filming.
@mrpaulcake
@mrpaulcake 2 года назад
@@eddieellmore9094 the swivel on the feeder is in a small rubber socket so only a small amount of pressure would enable the swivel to pop out and the line would run through the feeder. The putty on the line above the feeder would I feel come off with only slight pressure too as to be honest it’s often just coming off through normal fishing and needs replacing.
