I know in a lot of fiction characters we can assume are pretty much barbarians often get pretty cool scenes, but to me they tend to feel quite hollow; as the only thing it showcases is their physical strength. This scene here is exactly why I love barbarian characters so much. It's not about strength, it's about survival. A barbarian survives in the face of things that should have killed them, they get back up from wounds that are half as deep as they should be. They're intimidating because they harness their mindless anger, their rage, to stand up where everyone else would have crumbled. And their anger is always personal. I know it's probably not a thing that's as common as it seems, but barbarians in media are very often two-dimensional, yet the fact that the very character type requires something as deeply personal as anger to even function is testament to, in my opinion, how deep a barbarian style character should be. Amethar, as much as I don't really like his choices nor his character, I do still truly appreciate; he is a showcase of a barbarian with depth, of a character that feels immensely deeply, who is, in all he is, in a way so too honest for this entire setting. He displays intelligence that is unconnected to books, secrecy and manipulation, and in that I think he displays the strength of a barbarian character. As much as I think Amethar is an idiot, he is an idiot that I like despite his flaws.
Hope everyone doing good and staying safe. If you need to talk to someone or need help, there are people who care. Sending support and hearts. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
love the animation in the hallway, so fluid and fille with motion but still easy to follow. can't have been easy with bird anatomy. also love the choice for the cloud to be a nuke caused 'duh symbolism, but also from what I remember as to why mushroom clouds look like that, it could make sense given the size of the explosion
This is amazing. From the shaky cam view as Cerrit makes for the window to the person miles away trying to get indoors… this was haunting in the best way. If CR ever makes an animated version of this mini series I wish they would hire you. Or at least let you help because this was outstanding.
I gotta hand it to the team from this season, when you think about it. Brennan very clearly did his best to kill Amethar early to create drama for the storytelling. Like, really really tried to kill him heavily, twice. But with teamwork and choice actions by Lou to preserve himself when necessary, Amethar made it all the way to the end.
Very little makes me do so, but the end of this campaign had me openly sobbing, and this rendition of that final moment has also managed it. Absolutely beautiful.
The whole thing is so well done but every time I watch this, even though I know it's coming, that little *pff* of the cloud as he shoots up out of it always makes my breath catch in my throat. It's so well done, and you timed it so perfectly.
