the humanizations of cal are very cool, but i think calroy being a piece of cake is actually pretty important to his character. like, who is going to suspect a piece of cake you’ve known for 20 years to stab you in the back? it emphasizes that he’s ‘harmless’ to amethar while he’s actually a scoundrel and a traitor this whole time. it influences his arc pretty much
@@pt6328 Also as Emily says in the video: him being cake ties him to Ceresia - a large chunk of him is flour! I don't know if it was Brennan's intention or not, but it's really cool (same goes to Alfredi being a heavily cheese-based pasta dish and helping the Dairy assassins)
@@zeybarur No, but him being cake doesn't just make him Ceresian, he's a combination of everyone! Cakes have eggs, dairy, even vegetable oil! And him being a strawberry shortcake ties him to fruit, too. So, because he has ties to everyone, he's loyal to no one!
The best part about this is that he literally told everyone he was gonna betray them at the beginning "-a true coup is what a baron could do" it's all lead up to this
@@genuineinterest and it flew right over their heads. Brennan really made a risky move dropping that snippet since any one of them could've heard that and connected the dot pretty quickly
@@christianlecroy980 To be fair it was the perfect time to do it and the tentation was probably too high for Brennan (as well as for Cruller). Calroy was the character made to explain the politics, they happened to ask about how a coup worked, so he explained them with a fitting example at the end :)
Hope everyone doing good and staying safe. If you need to talk to someone or need help, there are people who care. Sending support and hearts. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Calroys expression at the end is my absolute favorite. I was always under the impression that he walked away and just assumed Amethar couldn’t survive, but the idea that he knew what was coming for him contextualizes Calroy’s moves in the following episodes and really fleshes him out more.
Frostwhip is super offputting. Actively cavorts with an insane psychopath and a complete lack of any empathy for Ruby, constantly needling her by calling her "sister," when her ire should be directed at Amethar. Even then it's unjustified; he tried to find her as best he could. She's played by Emily so she'd probably redeem herself eventually, but judging by her actions through to the end of this campaign she'd probably have been evil, evil queen.
i took calroy very seriously during this video, his expression of rage, disgust and his cruelty towards amethar and his voice i just can't laught at a vilain so well represented i can just watch in silence and just WOOOOOOOOOW at the end, great animation, good job
I love that after Amethar falls from such a great hight (both literally and metaphoricly/emotionally) and he finally pulls himself out of the creator you can see cracks on his face.
Oh my goshhh, Calroy's face at the end was perfection 😂😂😂 I loved how the screen shakes when Amethar rises up from the crater, it gives a really good feel for how strong/heavy his movements are!! Also you are so brave for drawing this scene with actual cake Calroy vs the humanized version of Calroy (which is still a pretty good design! but the goofiness of a cake man assassination is.... something else)
the way he describes amethar falling and seeing the light go out across the bridge is so vivid, i wanted to make an animation of it but this is almost exactly what i had in mind and its so fucking sick
This was one of the few moments in any form of media that actually made me jump out of my chair in excitement; the devastating plot twist, the imagery, the break inbetween showing Jet's death, and the rage!! This was art at its best!
I like to think that after the events of the season, the crater left behind in the moat from this event was made into a little cola pond with a statue, in memory of the time when some piece of cake tried and failed to destroy the King of Candia.
This is SO fucking cool! It's amazing how much you're able to convey with your drawings. Amethar's paralysis, his straining against it, Calroy's villainous swagger, the deadliness of the fall, and the INCREDIBLE raw power of the king and his rage all come across crystal clear. Your composition and directing are super hype as well! I can't stop watching this!
Definitely one of the most epic scenes of the season. What Amathar did was use his rage ability to survive. Though my favorite part of this episode is when Theo used "knocked" to open the door as they mocked him after he got locked up.
I watched this episode last night and replayed that scene 3 times just to kinda of visualize what happens... and this is EXACTLY what I pictured. Sometimes I want to skip the Adventuring Academy cause I want to watch the next ACoC right away but they mention stuff like this and I get see I'm not alone in my deep appreciation for the Dimension20 / DropoutTV crew.
Ok-WOW you did an excellent job with the expressions and designs and also truly forced me to understand all of this being done by a big piece of bastard cake. 🍰
@@manticorephoenix You have to! It is some of the best storytelling I've ever seen, and the ending is SO unreasonably satisfying. The whole show is pervaded my mystery and tension and doubt. I've got to say, I loved game Game of Thrones, but Crown of Candy did it better!
One small nitpick is about Calroy cleaning off his blade afterward. Watersteel daggers lose their blade when they're used. The water blade is the poison.
Oh damn, that last look from the cake guy at the top of the castle is amazing! Facial expressions are my Achilles heel. As an artist I know how hard it is to capture those nuances. This was magnifique!
I know in universe calroy didn't see amethar survive, but it's so cool to imagine it like this because you can just imagine that going through his mind is "oh shit I'm gonna die" cause of throwing someone off a castle after stabbing them in the back doesn't do it,then nothing will.
I know in a lot of fiction characters we can assume are pretty much barbarians often get pretty cool scenes, but to me they tend to feel quite hollow; as the only thing it showcases is their physical strength. This scene here is exactly why I love barbarian characters so much. It's not about strength, it's about survival. A barbarian survives in the face of things that should have killed them, they get back up from wounds that are half as deep as they should be. They're intimidating because they harness their mindless anger, their rage, to stand up where everyone else would have crumbled. And their anger is always personal. I know it's probably not a thing that's as common as it seems, but barbarians in media are very often two-dimensional, yet the fact that the very character type requires something as deeply personal as anger to even function is testament to, in my opinion, how deep a barbarian style character should be. Amethar, as much as I don't really like his choices nor his character, I do still truly appreciate; he is a showcase of a barbarian with depth, of a character that feels immensely deeply, who is, in all he is, in a way so too honest for this entire setting. He displays intelligence that is unconnected to books, secrecy and manipulation, and in that I think he displays the strength of a barbarian character. As much as I think Amethar is an idiot, he is an idiot that I like despite his flaws.
god this is amazing i just finished the episode and i knew there had to be an animatic for this moment! Truly incredible work the anguish on Amethars face is so real and expressive
holy shit HOLY SHIT i cannot express enough how WELL and on POINT you got this scene.... LOVE your cruller, still a cake but sharp and menacing as fuckkkkkk. and the little actions and inflections!! and the way amethar HITS the ground and then CIMBS OUT SWORD UNSHEATHED WHAT!!!!!! gahhhhh, so well done
I gotta hand it to the team from this season, when you think about it. Brennan very clearly did his best to kill Amethar early to create drama for the storytelling. Like, really really tried to kill him heavily, twice. But with teamwork and choice actions by Lou to preserve himself when necessary, Amethar made it all the way to the end.
I just watched this scene and immediately searched for ACOC animatics and yours was the first to come up, fate has brought me here and I couldn't be happier
GOD, still can't believe how good it was. I almost didn't watch it because the premise didn't sound as interesting as the others but it might be my favorite. Sooooo fucking good.
i love that not only did you give cal a hat you put it on the strawberry garnish on his slice?? that's so like. a very specific detail and a very very well executed one! great job! (about everything about this not just the hat but you know)
The SECOND I saw this scene I knew it had to be animated. Thanks for doing a world a favor Also it’s SO hard to take this scene seriously when Cruller is a cake with google eyes
