((CR ep 69 spoilers!!!)) the Kings's Cage was one of the most crushing things theyve ever described on the show and I had to see it with my eyes so i made it myself (w/ sound)
Yup. That moment where Yasha attempts to murder Jester without remorse was every bit as horrifying as I thought. To think, without "Mirror Image", Jester might have perished.
Also lucky that the dice gods were kind to her on that roll and she didn't lose that last duplicate in an earlier round (may need to re watch but I vaguely recall her getting attacked but the attack hit her instead of the last duplicate)
Jester running into frame after getting her mirror image killed is so powerful! I don’t even know why but that was magical (literally and figuratively!)
100 percent! The image of Yasha just wordlessly chopping though a terrified Jester perfectly sets the tone for how messed up this is, just a second or two before we remember the duplicate. Brilliant work!
I like how many details from the episode are in this, the tight angle of the firewall, Caleb being a gorilla, and the momentary break from Yasha's rage as Fjord said "Why". I believe that to enhance this even more, the laughing hand should have held Fjord in his grasp even through the firewall as it was displayed in the episode. The momentary struggle of Beau struggling to free him would be a great moment to further push how incredibly creepy the Laughing Hand is as well as add some more tension to the moment.
Especially with how safe they thought he was with the Firewall... but the Laughing hand had no issue grabbing and keeping his hand on Ford in spite being directly inside the wall of fire.
Also, although a small thing, the way the dagger worked with the door in the actual episode was way more interesting than inserting it into some pedestal like a key. A magical dagger that just absorbs into a strange door is way cooler.
True, but GOODNESS was that doorway jam packed. I'd consider the switch to just be for choreography sake. The same reason why they don't show Jester using her final chance to snag Yasha and completely failing.
Aw you missed the epic moment of Beau tearing Fjord from the Laughing Hand's grasp! Matt Mercer even said he didnt think she would make it because the DC was so high.
I know I'm being nit-picky, but I believe she said "I hurt you," acknowledging both the physical blow she dealt fjord as well as the pain of the betrayal she has no control over
@@Drocksas I thought she said "I hurt you", as well but it turns out it was "I heard you". Which doesn't come across with as much thematic weight in terms of scaring fjord and making him believe Yasha was the crazed monster who he risked his life for only to almost kill him, but it will probably be called back to when she comes back and addresses being possessed.
Perfection. You just captured the emotion so well. The moment you realize Yasha might have killed Jester if so for Mirror Image or the total hopelessness of Fjord in the face of death until Beau came for him. Just beautiful, thank you.
I think the only thing this was missing was the "I hear you," that Matt allowed to seep through. Really great storyboarding though. Hope to see a full animation some day :)
Every time I watch this I notice something new - gorilla Caleb, Fjord's reflection in the sword, the very subtle water sound effect when the falchion is summoned. Phenomenal work.
This is so perfect, the tension, the expressions, it’s all awesome. I Love even when Yasha’s face falters a bit you can still see her smiling, even if it’s just a forced one for a small moment.
Indeed, with some more work and practice, it could look even better, I look forward to seeing more work from sander goldman as their skills continue to improve over time :)
I do like how you get across how genuinely intimidating Yasha was in that situation. She has always been able to shoulder the team even in the worst fights, but as an enemy she is essentially a miniboss. Just great choreography all around.
Jesus this is gorgeous! You picked a perfect soundtrack and sounds to go with your chilling animation and wonderful editing. The best part is easily how we don't see the real jester until after the mirror dies, it feels just like it did in the eppisode, that monent where your heart siezes and you think she's gone, but then, by luck we keep her
This was so beautifully done. Applause all around. You took just the right amount of alterations to make it work for the medium. If the Vox Machina is anything like this, we are in for a treat
Holy shit, the tension you've created here is insane! I love the shot of Yasha casually walking through Caleb's wall of fire, and the sound the Laughing Hand makes is genuinely eerie! The 'oh god she's killed jester' bit at the start is incredibly well done as well.
