Thank you Dr. John for your informative and educational video presentation. From each videos I'm learning so much and particularly this one is "right up my alley."
At 77 Iwas prescribed a staten(atoravastaten) I experienced terrible leg muscle pain so severe I could barely walk.I also was exhausted all the time.I stopped taking it and the pain dissappeared,my exhaustion also disappeared.
Day 1 at half dose. So far i have excessive yawning and im slightly sleepy but nothing too bad. I have autism, EDS, POTS and what my doctor thinks is FND (though waiting list is years long for me to get diagnosed)
I've been on atorvastatin on and off for the past 2 yrs. Just recently as 3 weeks ago I've been experiencing some random sensations in my chest muscles in different spots. The sensations could best be described as spasms, pulses, and sometimes palpitations. Within the past few days currently, this would immediately be followed by muscle weakness in other parts of my body followed by the feeling of fainting or immediately falling asleep. During these "episodes" I would get random pin pricks in different muscles, muscle trembling along with the weakness, and sometimes a dull burning sensation in random muscles, as if my muscles are wasting away. This may last an hour up to a few hours, but once it subsides I feel normal again as if nothing has happened. I thought it was something going on with my heart or I may be developing a musculoskeletal disorder. But just last night when I looked up the possible side effects of atorvastatin this all began to make sense. I just hope that these side effects haven't done any irreversible damage.
Hello Dr. John, I have watched some of your videos. I appreciate your time and knowledge in this area. I am struggling mentally with the issues of getting prescriped the right HBP medication. As an middle aged, African American woman. Four years ago I originally prescribed 6.25 mg of vtwice a day of Carvadevol. In Dec. Of last year, the doctor increased the dose to 12.25 mg twice a day. This past August I went to the ER due to left side contractions above my breast bone, left shoulder. I was admitted the Cardiologist performed the Cardiac Catheterazation right wrist. Thankfully there were no blockages. He prescribed Lorsartan, and 81mg baby aspirin. I started having side effects within 3weeks. My question is what are the safest high blood pressure medication for African Americans? I watched your video on HBP, I just need some insight because over the years of being first diagnosed in 06, Ive been fortunate to only have been on one pill, to lower my pressure. Its been two weeks now on Hydralazine 10mg it is not doing much of lowering my pressure. I would sincerely appreciate a response if possible. I just dont know what else to consider when I see the doctor next month, I have been logging all my pressure readings twice daily Kindest regards.
This happens to me from time to time and tends to happen in spurts. I have a loop implant and it hasn’t found anything nor have my EEGs. I do notice my pulse dropping down and going up on my watch. The doctor said nothing is showing up on the monthly reports. Then my brother told me our mom a condition that sounded similar to mine. I messaged the doctor what it was and asked to discuss at my next appointment. That was over a year and 2 appointments ago and we both have forgotten. 🤦🏼♀️ Obviously my symptoms aren’t a heart attack but scary just the same. Now if I do have a heart attack I more than likely with think it’s one of my spells and go sleep it off for 30 minutes like I usually do. 😢
Excellent advice, presented in a comprehensive way. I have watched many videos re: hypertension and read extensively. This is probably the best presentation I have seen. I am going to try and implement the tips that pertain to my needs, especially the ones related to poor sleep, and adding more potassium to my diet. Thank you very much. ❤
I got prescribed it last week. I started taking it on the Monday, by Wednesday night my throat went tight and my pulse started racing. I went to A&e unable to get a proper breath they stuck me on a nebuliser and told me it was a asthma attack and sent me home with steroids. They didn't check my medications. I went home and took the sertraline again the following day. I ended up having tremors and uncontrollable shaking in my hands and feet. Couldn't get a deep breath and rash on my throat. Felt like it was closing up. Ambulance from the GPs to the hospital with suspected sepsis. Had injection of antihistamines then left , pulse was 150 bpm. My blood pressure was 156 over 114 my ecg was all over the place. They again were going to send me home even though my hands were turning colour by this stage and lost my voice. Till I handed over my meds and was told I shouldn't of been put on 50g struaght away with bad asthma. And it took 12 steroids and two doses off antihistamines to regulate my heart and body. Spent 2 days in bed feeling like I'm coming down. Still shakey and out of sorts. That's from 5 days of medications. Please be careful when they give you medications simply reading my file would of stopped this from happening. And if I carried on taking the dose, I can't imagine how it would of ended up.
