We are two creatives with terrible memories, Jordan and myself (Bradley) have set about creating "The Basten Journey" to document our travels, adventures and highs and lows with you all. Committed to always serving our most authentic selves (because we are terrible liars 😂). If you are passionate about travel, photography, cooking, van life or entertained by the general chaos that consumes our life, this might just be the place for you. Our adventure, travel diary and memories start here.
Just subscribed, what a great couple. If I ever get our latest build completed, we plan to build a Caddy next. I will have a look through the process you guys have followed and apologise right now for any ideas I may adopt. Thanks for sharing and happy travels. Mal, Ruth and Raffy.
Amazing job looks amazing. How are you finding living in it day-to-day? I want to do it but I don’t know if I can give up work to do it. How much is it costing you to be full-time campers?
Thank you! She really is a great little camper, it really is a whole lifestyle change so I’d recommend trying to find similar sizes or models of what you’d buy and rent that for a week or so just to see how you feel, work is usually the trickiest thing, see what remote jobs you might be able to do and go from there!
Ah that is a great question, the pull out bed is in 2 sections so you are able to go to the toilet in the night, although we do find with 2 people to be a bit of hassle so there are other options if need be 😅
How did you do the gap between your ply and the sliding door, I’ve got a similar shape ply panel but it doesn’t feel like it’ll bend enough to follow the pilar next to the door from top to bottom (without snapping). The fact there’s just a few predrilled holes in this area makes me hesitate to put more in 😂
Hi Oscar, I think I’m getting what you’re asking, it might be down to the thickness of ply you use! Annoyingly I can’t remember unless I said it in the video 😅
Did the math the other day but stopped counting at some point in the build 😅 this was a more high end conversion so so including tradesman and all kit it probably cost just over 10k to do, definitely can cut corners and get cheaper but we are a little more mariculture 😂
@@thebastenjourney ya I was thinking are the 10k myself I think it's the way things are going with the inflation, I sold my VW transporter 2,5l TDI was just too thirsty on diesel
@thebastenjourney sound I ordered some the other day used the colour of the backing tape to try and identify it. Where rocking the same van as you guys found your videos hopefully thanks again
Ah amazing! So excited for you!! We ordered 32sqft for the walls wheel arches, can’t remember how much of the sound deadening + insulation roll we used for the the floor but can’t ever be too safe! 👍🏼
Hi guys, really love your conversion! Am thinking of doing one myself and have been watching your videos as inspiration. Sorry if too personal a question but how do you find it with 2 adults sleeping in the back? Is there enough room/is it comfortable? xx
Hiya! We're glad your loving the videos! No too personal at all, we'd say you have to be a close couple to work in this situation, especially we did it full time for 3-4 months at a time, as a weekender you'd definitely be fine. Isn't as cramped as you'd think compared to other caddy conversions
I found this video as I'm thinking of buying a caddy to convert in the near future (currently have a self converted ford fiesta) I think this is the best and most functional one that ive ever seen! You've both done an amazing job! Well done!
Hiya, thanks for the comment! We did vapour wrap the back of the wooden covers that go over the insulation, this means if we ever need to get to the wiring behind it, we just have to drill off the door pieces!
I could just about manage to live in that alone, being a 5'5" slim female, but would go insane with even a cat let alone another person, it's just too small for two. You barely have room to sit down yourself, lol.
Honestly you have to be VERY comfortable with who you choose to live with 😅, we both make it work but most people might not! It's not too small for us, but defo amazing for 1 person!
Fantastic build, great use of space! Very interested in the mobile internet. Also interested to know your idle consumption from the battery, as I have a similar electrical set up.
Ah thanks mate!! 200AH at full, winter consumption I reckon we could be off grid not moving for 6 days before needing to move again, usually use about 15% per day!
We got our awsome electrical dude to fit it! Well worth it, we did opt for proper kitchen lights, just because I'm not a massive fan of the white on RGB strips
If the pop top opened (was hinged) at the front it would give you more headroom. You don't need head space above the front seats. I don't know if that would have been possible.
Nice van, very nice 'workshop' too. Lucky to have the space. Those shelves would be very useful in a garage, you could keep them or sell them. I came here after watching your final van tour. hence the late comment. Now I am going to part one etc.
Ahah thank you so much! Really have been a blood, sweat and tears job but loved it in the end!! Nighttime trips have to include pushing one of the bed sections in.. only way!
It’s beautiful but the only thing that I don’t like is the bed. There’s really no space for a person to move around. I can’t imagine being very comfortable sleeping so straight all night.
I completely understand, its not for everyone! It's perfect for one person but we definitely make it work for 2, we are close sleepers so 6months in it and we have had no issues 😁
Taking you back a few weeks. When you kitted your van out and painted large areas, eg. kitchen doors did you use a brush or roller? And if a roller was it smooth-faced.
As a person with basic DIY skills, this video has given me inspiration, thank you for capturing / editing and posting the videos detailing the process of changing a work van to adventure van. I look forward to the adventure videos.
You are very welcome Mike! Trust me I don't consider myself very DIY, but a bit of an overthinker and math brain, all learnt as I went along... as you'll probably tell 😅 if I can inspire others then my job is done!
