Hi Lucy, I think on another video that you made, you said that you should make the neckband binding smaller than the neckline on knits, and then stretch the neckline to fit ? Can you still do this if you use the attachment or is it no longer necessary ?
Great video. Burgundy is a big trend for Autumn. It’s all over RU-vid when the style influencers are talking about Autumn trends. Not heard them mention pillar box red but I wear any colour I like ha
Lucy, Thank you for this video presentation. I've had my eye on this one for a while. It will be my first overlocker, and I like that it comes with the accessories that you don't get included with other overlockers.
It's a pleasure, it is a great choice for a first overlocker and, yes, it's really nice to have the accessories to experiment with. You can buy it on our site here www.sewessential.co.uk/brother-3034dwt-overlocker and don't forget you can find all of our threads here www.sewessential.co.uk/haberdashery/threads/overlocking-threads-and-flosses
McCall’s 8098 is the only patten I have in the stash you just shown. I’ve made twice. Loving all your pattern choices especially the very first one which I will try to find pattern and make. I love your tutorials. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much I'm glad you enjoyed it - we stock all of the patterns and fabrics on our website, you can see them all here www.sewessential.co.uk/sewing-patterns/shop-sewing-patterns-by-brand/mccalls-sewing-patterns
I love your videos! I've been sewing for decades but, hey, every day is a school day! Always new techniques to learn. Please keep producing the videos;
I've made the M8089 trousers with all the gathers. I LOVE them!! People often think in wearing a maxi skirt. I've made them in a rayon crepe print and rayon/viscose challis. They are so delightfully swishy!! They are very easy to make, and they fit nicely around the body, not too loose or baggy, before becoming super wide legged. They are very comfy to wear. You've made me want to pick up a couple other patterns that you showed. Thanks for another fab video!!
Thanks Lucy for another very informative video. The only thing I want to ask is why should you press the seam open on the first line of stitching because the next step is enclosing it again in the final line of stitching. Is that strictly necessary ?
Hi Lisa, it is the True Bias Roscoe blouse and dress pattern, which you can see here: www.sewessential.co.uk/true-bias-roscoe-blouse-dress-sewing-pattern and our pima cotton lawn fabric, which you can see here: www.sewessential.co.uk/floral-print-pima-cotton-lawn-woven-fabric-multi I highly recommend both and I did a review video too.
What a brilliant idea for a video! I have so many odd bits of fabric leftover that I could use on these patterns. And now I realise you can do this, I can be on the look out for even more patterns to use.
Very informative I just started watching videos to learn how to sew, my first attempt this weekend will be an apron. Thank you for sharing. Also I love your blouse the style is very nice.
I just purchased a gathering foot for a pinafore dress I'm making. I had NO idea I could use it to sew the gathered skirt to the flat bodice. Thank you so much for that demonstration. You made it look easy
If you’re cold wearing a ballet flat wear a fleecy insole. Fab pattern. By the way I think you probably have the best job in the world. I live in NW Ireland, we have zero fabric/ pattern shops here.
I have made a couple of half slips with elasticated waists to wear underneath skirts and dresses - I find them invaluable. In fact I'm planning to make another one in a really floaty white cotton lawn, with several very full tiers. As well as making sure they're opaque, these also help give volume to flared/full skirts and dresses. Broderie Anglaise is so beautiful, I think I need some in my life... not white though, I'd be terrified of staining it 😱. Thanks for the inspiration, Lucy!
lol you are my kind of gal!!!’ I live animal prints! I read somewhere on FB that they are out of style but I don’t think animal prints ever go out of style! At least for me they don’t.
Hello, I use a Viking Opal and love it. Today I was finishing up a denim shirt with buttonholes down the placket. Of course, with the layers it was thick. I really struggled and I did test a lot.. My issue was the placket was thicker on the sides and the buttonholes were not balanced. The little wheel was raised and did not give me straight buttonholes. I ripped out one twice. Ugh 😢. I had better luck with the 4 step than the one step. But they were not perfect. I have a bulky seam aid too … I normally have no issues. Any suggestions? Thanks so much. Love your videos.
That is totally cool!!! I just went to our Babylock store today and purchased one! Can’t wait to try it! I sew ❤❤little dresses for the Dress A Girl around the world group. I’m thinking I could make little T-shirts with this! Also, what couldnt you bind the armholes first, then use this to make straps for a camisole?!thank you so much! 🎉
Hi Jerry it is £2745, there is one, more expensive model and several cheaper ones. You can see the Ovation (the one in the video) here www.sewessential.co.uk/baby-lock-ovation-coverlock and the rest of the range here www.sewessential.co.uk/sewing-machines-and-accessories/overlockers/baby-lock-overlockers If you want to discuss anything in more detail drop us an email to sales@sewessential.co.uk and I will be very happy to help.
Wow, thank you very much! I have a Singer with the first threader you demonstrated. I haven’t been able to figure it out since I got the machine lol! I have been using an old fashioned hand sewing needle threader to thread my machine…from the back side! I also have a device like the white one you used. Mine is blue. I didn’t even know that it had the threader on it. I have been using it as an aid to install a needle correctly (flat side to the back side). I also use a piece of fabric over my feed dogs when changing needles. I had a needle drop into the machine when I was first learning to sew. It scared me sufficiently enough to keep something over the feed dogs after that, lol! It was an easy fix…but still! Thanks again for showing me something new!🦋
Hi Lucy! Another great video! The navy floral isn’t a deadstock though. I bought this fabric from one of my local stores and made a Tilly & the Buttons Mabel dress for my friends wedding. Shuts up beautifully
Your tutorial is what I've been looking for...and I've been looking for a long time :)) I am so happy I found it! Your detailed explanation is exactly what every beginner needs. Thank you so much!!!
I'm so pleased to hear it, I think it's the sort of thing a lot of us think we know everything we need to and then we discover there are actually lots of other tips that can be really helpful. Over time I think a lot of people will find it useful hopefully.
