We explore the near coastal waters of Alaska (Cook Inlet, Prince William Sound, Gulf of Alaska) doing things you would expect in those waters: Fishing for halibut, lingcod, and yellow eye. Occasionally we even share fishing spot coordinates. Sometimes we look for whales and other cool marine life, or we'll hop on an airplane and fly over a glacier. Most everything we do is geared around Alaska's saltwater, but occasionally we will venture inland somewhere. Our goal is to include our audience and make them feel like they have come along to experience Alaska.
Please note: We are not a fishing charter and do not provide a fishing service or charter service. We are a media company that produces videos and photography. If you want to go fishing contact one of the many reputable charters in Alaska. Requests to accompany us fishing will be ignored, unless you are Dude Perfect.
Thanks for the review of the cabin. We've been going to Knight and Montague quite a bit in our 22 footer, just have to be very mindful of the weather. The nice thing about PWS is that there are plenty of spots to hide in case the weather turns.
thats awesume!! I wish I had the money to get a boat.....maybe someday, c'mon lottery! I think id of hung out and/or fished around kodiak fer a few days after. that long ride. I wonder how many ppl w boat under like 35/40 feet have made that trip. I have heard of sailing it.
Hello, Love this video. Nice Raider! I would love to pick your thoughts a little on it. I’m acquiring a Raider very similar to yours (just a hair longer), and I’m curious on performance etc. does yours have an extended partial hull transome/OB bracket? If so, how well do your trim tabs work. My tabs appear a bit undersized for this size boat. Also, obviously you have a lot of power. How do you feel about 200’s? Thank you and great videos.
It's a great boat! I wish I would have ordered a 30 footer, 2 more feet of deck space would be nice. Otherwise it is fantastic! No regrets. Congrats on getting a Raider!
Sorry missed the last part there. My trim tabs do fine, they seem sized ok. I have a swim deck for the motors that extends out a bit. I think 200's would work fine, but the V hull does seem to take more power than my old 28' Alumaweld. The Raider is also a bit heavier. Full consumption would be more efficient with 200's. I can hit 52 mph but you really don't need to go anywhere near that fast. The bigger engines are nice if you get in big seas.
@@MattSnader Thanks for the reply Matt. I'm noticing that this boat (offshore 290) appears to be a bit nose heavy with the 200's on the back. I'm told the 250-300's are 600lbs heavier, giving it a better balance. I'm told this boat would cavitate in rough seas.... Love to know your thoughts. A fab guy recommended a 10-12" jack plate to bring the motors back a bit.
Hi there. Thank you for your information. Can you please give us some information regarding this boat. With your 300 HP Suzuki motors, on your 28' Raider boat, what kind of economy can you get for miles per gallon? What kind of traveling range do you consider a safe amount? Thank you in advance for your help.
I can get about 1.5 mpg. The boat holds 160 gallons of fuel, if I plan on going more than 160 miles I take extra fuel barrels along. You can't be too safe out on the saltwater.
I learned a valuable lesson on keep track of insurance coverages, it was only insured for about 75% of the value. Special thanks to Mike Barth in Homer for his help.
No, these boats don't have any flotation. I view flotation as a double edge sword, it is great when the boat is new, but foam tends to get waterlogged over the years and make things worse (I had one boat where I had to remove all the foam), and watertight compartments sometimes leak slowly, and then fill with water. So pick your poison, I guess.
Watch out for rocks bud! Also who out of your charter has the shoot from boat license? I didn't see one person on your charter that seemed disabled . Looks like you poached deer and then sunk your boat . But hey the deer blood on the window will keep you looking Alaskan 😂
Sorry, you are incorrect. 😀 Prince William Sound is in unit 6D, which only requires a permit to shoot from a boat if you are hunting black bear. Everyone hunting was licensed, and no, we did not poach any deer.
The tide rises and drops by as much as 12 feet in 6 hours in Prince William Sound. The rock (which was not marked on our GPS) was submerged when the incident first occurred, and with the tide dropping by over an inch a minute it did not take long for bad things to happen. I do agree though that you can never have enough boating skills and you can never stop learning.
Hey Matt. I live in Homer and have really enjoyed watching you make great memories with your family. And really appreciate the open handed approach to your videos showing gps points where you were successful or not. I don't make videos but I take the same approach with sharing spots with friends. On a side note, I'm so happy to see you have a new boat after the most unfortunate mishap a few years ago in PWS. Another example of you showing the good as well as the bad. And even more thankful that all you lost was a boat and all aboard were ok. God is good ALL the time.
Thanks Pat, appreciate the comment! I did fix up the old boat that sank, I will have some videos of the recovery and repairs coming soon. I do really like my Raider, the old boat I sold after fixing it back up. Stay tuned!
I don't even take the tracks off mine. The second set of (6) tires I built a 3 axle trailer which also pulls a LOT easier in mud and muskeg. Almost never been stuck and likely had 1500 lbs on the trailer a number of times bringing materials into remote hunt shack build. Lotta fun!
@MattSnader just got a set of rubber tracks for my 8 wheel Argo...$4300.00 cdn ... crazy amount of money tbh, but wouldn't go without them. The other thing the rubber tracks are c REALLY good for is protecting the fairy soft tires from sharp sticks and rocks etc. We found In clearing quite a bit of trail scrub there's generally a lot spikey stiff sticking up that's pretty brutal on the tires.
Sorry it was too short, I have a video of a boating trip from Homer to Kodiak, that I will be uploading in a few days. Thanks for checking the channel out!
That cabin is in amazing shape for being kept up by the state or national park service. Looked like a nice place to spend some time. The rain looks way too much like Oregon. Haha
Yes, I thought this cabin was exceptional. The harbor was amazing, it is so nice to be able to keep your boat safe and not have to worry about it while you stay there.
