I am still wondeing why this Foundation based in Malta and that has no specialization in healthcare matters, without any link with the continent pretends to have the exclusivity of vaccines manufacturing in Africa.

This is a positive step of making the continent becoming self reliant in pharmaceuticals and its success will definitely bring more economic benefits to all African countries. What is required is to guarantee safety standards
This has always been my view. African governments must take full responsibility for coordinating critical elements of R and D needed to solve the most pressing health challenges on the continent. There must be a fundamental shift in mindset. The West has its own priorities.
I disagree. The African continent, as well as South America, for example, are underdeveloped regions not because they want to, but due to a historical process of exploitation and the configuration of a dependency setting, mainly in economic terms. There's no way out of this under capitalist rule and the Covid-19 pandemic is opening even wider this well-known structural problem. The professor is accurate in saying that are no agreements able to change the fundamental capitalist-oriented geopolitical setting. The mindset that has to change is that of profit-oriented companies that control vaccine production.

@@UtanoPodcast I guess the answer lies somewhere between pushing these companies for a COVID-19 vaccine patent waiver, making them to be produced throughout the globe (what would call to investment in health-industrial infrastructure), and, from the perspective of countries (African, Caribbean, and South American mainly), they have to strive to build regional agreements to strengthen cooperation in testing and vaccinating their own population, because for their own account it is not possible. This last option, unfortunately, is hindered due to this capitalist-type geopolitical configuration that pressures low-income countries to negotiate in the terms of the global north rule. Finally, and I know I'm pushing this discussion away from a pragmatic point of view, it is time to build real South-South cooperation and solidarity (there is a open window right now in Latin America due to the newly elected progressive left-wing governments).
US is not interested in system that will work for everyone. It's only interested in system which works for its (selfish) hegemonic interest. If it good for them, it doesn't matter what shit it gives to other people including its allies. That's how it operates around the world using its taxpayers' money. This self-centred concept is not only reflecting the government policies, but the character of the large part of the nation as well, maybe as the result of long time national propaganda through their educational system. The majority of Americans have this mindset. It's always me, me, me first,..go to hell with other people. Well they will learn in a very hard way that this very attitude is the one which will bring them down as a nation, if you can call it that way. Person like Prof J Sach will be discredited by true-blue Americans, who will say ..no, you are not one of us.

@@UtanoPodcast access is easy just use ER in every state in USA. Everyone can get emergency care and hospitals write off huge debts. That is still even before Obamacare. Taxpayers have to pay the cost of all these Obamacare subsidies. All you need is a job and a $400/month policy can be gotten for almost nothing; if you're poor enough. Obamacare is just another tax. Medicaid and food stamps is easy to get. Public transportation can get you to the doctor. What else is the government to do; have doctors that make house calls? Socialism is not free it costs people lots of money. In fact costs would be much lower if everyone paid their own bills like in the 50's; very reasonable. Socialism makes people lazy and fat as anyone going to Walmart knows. People have lost all accountability. In the West we die of fatness and laziness and most of the world dies of starvation.

While the US and EU do everything to alienate Africa and Asia, China does the exact oposite. I don't agree with their politics/tactics but it is crystal clear who will be the next super power. Lets just hope they treat the people better than we do.
