lol for some reason i remember a vid of you over 10 yrs ago going on about the picture quality on n64 ! As I bought a n64 back then and was looking at options to make the image as good as possible!
See I remember owning 300 on both HD-DVD and Blu ray and overall I preferred the HD-DVD version as it had better detail especially on the skin detail where as the Blu-ray seems oversaturated too bright
Ended up getting a system, came today and been playing some Quake 2, Goldeneye and a few others. I got one that had a HDMI mod (as I dont own any CRT's anymore) but it looks so good. Wanted to say you can actually disable the filtering in Quake 1 in the options - not sure if you tried that, I do prefer it that way.
@@Snestastic I think its literally called Filter or similar in the options -I found it really cleans it up. Almost all N64 games had this filter on by default with a few letting you turn it off. I think you can get a few patched roms if you had an Everdrive (one thing I am trying later) that disable it. I would be interested in seeing what you think of Quake 2 on the 64 - Once I got the hang of the controls I found it quite fun... not as good as the first (total classic) but great non the less.
Hello! Just to let you know I have an LG Super Blu Player that plays both Blu-ray & HD-DVD'S! I bought it back 20 years ago, before the format war was settled! I still have about 50 HD-DVD'S!
I do still watch VHS almost daily I understand they aren’t for everyone, but recently started getting into HD DVD I kept finding them at thrift stores finally pulled the trigger because of Dukes of Hazard never getting a blu-ray. Worked perfect even though it’s a Warner Brothers title. So now I’m hooked hunting for stuff we didn’t get in the US or I didn’t already own on another format.
Do all of the Warner releases not work? I’ve seen most succumb to disc rot and I’ve come across some and I’d rather save myself the trouble of putting them in and not working 😅
Nearly all of the Warner discs I've got don't work. Even films that I bought sealed. For instance I picked dip a sealed Swordfish. My standalone Toshiba won't even boot the disc. It just freezes the player. However I have 2 copies of batman begins. 1 US and 1 UK. US stutters and freezes. UK works perfect. So I think it's very hot n miss with Warner unfortunately 😕
that i got be fair i did not like like come one why did xbox wanted u to buy a drive to play a hd movie like u should already have that! inside the console like the sony ps3 did on there console

I've gotta do it eventually though 😬 It's funny how that level on MI seemed difficult. But now I've done it it's very straight forward. I think it's more the panic trying to find the protective suit at the beginning.
Ah the memories evoked by the N64! I bought one on impulse on a deal in 1998 with Mario, Zelda and FIFA 98. For the next 4 years that was my number one outlet for entertainment. More than with the PS1 (which I bought in 95) it convinced me that 3d gaming was truly the way to go. 4 player MarioKart was immense. Super Smash Bros, Mario Party, World Driver Championship, Mario Tennis, Track n' Field, just an amazing catalogue of wonderful games. Wish I'd kept mine now but ah that was 20 years ago. I'm happy just for the memories.

Nice to see Turkish Pete back again hahahaha you need to get a wig on the next thumbnail 😂 Lovely boxed copy of the system that Pete, chillout do get some nice bits, they had a decent copy of kirby for a good price(was just the bad timing for me) otherwise i would have had that! i knew about the slow down using the exp pak as you say though some games the sacrifice is worth it, i think with these older games you have to give them some leeway they were early 3d adopters so still finding their feet and paved the way for what people enjoy today. Defo look to get it RGB modded though Claire is the go to person as you know already!

Yeah you're absolutely right. And the frame drops don't affect the game all that much. So it's worth it to have the nicer graphics.
Nice one on the recent N64 love. I have the RGB and DeBlur mod for mine, its expensive, but its well worth it. Its night and day. Ive been playing my N64 a fair bit recently because of it. I prefe games like quake and doom more so than the JB games as i prefere the unrealistic scifi elements. Ive never played MI, but i dont feel like im missing out on anything. Great stuff 👌

Very nice looking copy of Quake mate! I could never get on with the aiming on Quake 2 on the PS1, used to do my nut in. A lot of people say the best control set up is a mouse and pad combo which sounds nuts for a console. This looks a lot simpler, like it actually makes the game fun. Yeah, this is on Saturn, I imagine it looks rough though! haha Yep, always prefer to have a manual, I find I don't miss them so much in modern games that aren't meant to have manuals though, if that makes sense. If a game is meant to have one I'd like one, in other words! haha Buying games in charity shops, CeX etc, it's nice not having the disappointment of finding it's missing. I hate mazes in games as well mate, especially when you've got dudes attacking you all the time when you just want to find you way out. I've ditched games when I've gotten lost in the past, Half Life on the PS2 did my nut in although I bet the solution is a lot simpler than I thought! haha

Yeah mazes do my head in lol. I'm the same I'd give up easily most of the time. I can wind myself up sometimes lol. Then when I come back to a game after a few days or a week and it's easy I realise it was my fault lol
Love how you said you miss manuals Pete but then got stuck because you hadn't read the manual 🤣 I hear you though, it's not like I read them from cover to cover either back in the day (or now) but it is nice to have them, just shows that extra care and effort for both the game an the gamer when they include them. I must have played that Bond game but I'm struggling to remember.... I'm guessing I didn't stick with it because I preferred Goldeneye. I'll definitely be checking it out eventually though, looks decent to be fair and something I would appreciate a lot more all these years later.

If you’re after more boxed N64 games, Vinted is really good. There’s some clean copies of Wave Race, Star Wars Rogue Squadron and Star Wars Shadows of the Empire on there at the minute.
Lovely pick ups Pete,gotta love N64...apart from the cardboard boxes! Love Quake,recently bought Quake 1 +2 remastered on ps5/4. Always hoes on sale gor a couple of quid, they look and play amazing. Well worth getting if you haven't got them. Keep up the good work!

@@Snestastic I remember it being ok from when I had a 7800, certainly better than the 2600 one anyway, I've also had compatibility issues on a handful of games with the Quickshot stick I use so the 7800 one hopefully will work with everything
hiya Pete, crackin pickups mate! A word on quake, check the settings menu as i think it has an option to turn off the texture filter that n64 has in all games. Should sharpen up the game a bit. Also, some n64 games give u either multiple control options, or the ability to completely remap them. So have a good look cause it might improve your experience with quake 64 & Mission impossible. 👍🏻

Beautiful box! You have the same as me. Unfortunately I don’t have my original atomic purple 2 controller bundle box anymore, so I just have the basic box. Quake 2 is a gem. Recently played that on Switch.

Great pickups Pete The World is not Enough looks graphically stunning on the N64 almost like an early PS2 game with the expansion pak, I've just ordered the PS1 version as well as Tommorow Never Dies myself. I'm a big Doom fan yet never played the original Quake it looks my type of game only ever played Quake III on Dreamcast. Mission Impossible looks kind of bland to be honest and not sure why they didn't get the licence to use Tom Cruises image as it's based on the movie. Collections coming along very nicely Pete looking forward to seeing what else you pick up on your collecting journey.

Think I’ve told you before, but I had to rent the movie to figure out how to finish the last level of TWINE 😂! Quake was ace on N64, forgot how smooth it was! I could never get on with MI back in the day, got it in a job lot and tried playing it a few times but controls did my nut in 😂. Collection is coming along nicely mate, enjoying seeing it grow!

Nice little pickups. Love the N64. It's one of the few systems that I've still got from Back in the day. Christmas 1997 and it still works. As much as I love Goldeneye on N64. Realistically it's not the best game in the series in my opinion. No doubt it's the 007 game that made the most impact but it's not the greatest bond game to me. Blood stone. From Russia With love and Nightfire are my favorites.
Thanks Mate. I agree. There are many better Bond games that Goldeneye. Goldeneye is a great game. But it's very shallow really. I'd go with the TWINE games, Agent Under Fire,Quantum (PS3) and Blood Stone over Goldeneye.
The N64, unfortunately can’t output RGB, it may be better than composite, but it won’t be RGB, the SNES is RGB, so no idea why Nintendo regressed such for the N64, some N64 consoles can be modified to output RGB, I think they maybe NTSC though or Early Euro PAL. I think the expansion pack makes some games run in 480i rather than 240p. Retro RGB website has lots of info.
Nice one - Quake looks awesome on the 64... It WAS on Saturn too, I was always a PC gamer but like that coloured lighting. Also sometimes also you can set the sync rate on your phone camera app or similar to lessen the flicker. I would heavily suggest Doom 64.
It bears a few similarities in pacing with Risky Woods (Amiga, Atari ST, DOS and Mega Drive, where it had a different title..) which was developed by the same Spanish team (or part of it) a few years prior. In facts I think at least a few sprites are lifted from that game. That might explain the "Amiga look and feel" a lot of people see in it. Anyways, I'm amazed at how well your Xbox handles the emulation. For an early 2000s machine emulating a quite intensive mid 90s 2D game, that's not too bad at all.
I love Risky Woods. Didn't know it was the same team. Makes sense. They've just put Risky Woods out on Evercade. So I'm gonna have to grab that collection.
Never heard of it, Pete. Looks like Robocod, Earthworm Jim, Zool and Magic Pockets on even more steroids 🤣 As you say, real shame this didn't get a 32-bit port but at least we can still play it, that's a huge win.
Yeah exactly Alex. I think you're all right in the comments. Very much of that Amiga era. The Evercade Gaelco collection has some fantastic games. Well worth picking one up for 😉
