I'm Louise Fletcher and I help artists to find their own unique voice. I work full-time as an artist. but I also teach online courses and run a membership community. My mission it to help everyone unleash their creative potential by providing insights, ideas, support and inspiration.
I post practical tips such as colour mixing and composition, I share demos from my studio and I also offer mindset tips. As the founder of the Find Your Joy online course, I passionately believe that the only thing getting in the way for most artists is their own mindset. If we let go of limiting beliefs and embrace our true potential, we can make amazing art that resonates with others.
The waiting list for my course (which runs once a year) is at thispaintinglife.mykajabi.com/wait-list-FYJ-2021

Wow!!! Wish I had known about this several years ago before I invested a lot of money on tubes of paint. The best part is that now your painting comes together because the colors are mixed together. After all my watching of videos nobody ever said this. You are amazing!!!
Hi, given the mark limits, what is the point of making a mark or two and then coving them up with the big black brush? Are these wasted marks or is there something else going on I'm missing? Thanks
I keep trying to sign up for what seem like new offerings. I'm on a waitlist (or three? :) Oh well, still enjoying your videos Louise and hope you're enjoying your new space! "Old Habits Die Screaming" resonated with me, thank you for sharing that!
If people have not mined themselves why paint. Orson Welles said that he could teach the technique of filmmaking in a few hours no more. The problem is what to do with it.
I'm mostly bedridden with a medical condition and can sit up for only a few hours a day. But, I have vowed to make art every day because making art is healing, so I use limits. 4"x4" square journal. Three to four pieces of collage paper or paint marks. Twenty minute time limit. Very simple art, but it allows me to complete at least one project a day. Which is very rewarding and which causes the brain to release dopamine which makes us feel good!
I'm so inspired by your comment, as well as by the video. I spent years bed bound, I've graduated to a recliner and brief periods of standing/movement. Early in my illness I tried to paint but the results were never 'perfect' so I just gave up. Working with limitations will be so helpful in overcoming perfectionism. And I love your idea of a time limit. It's so easy for me to over-tire myself, especially with sitting upright, focusing, hand movement, etc. You and OP have given me some great ideas. I wish you the best health possible and every happiness. Keep making art - the world needs it.
QUESTION. I've taken the 4 day Art to Life course. I've been trying abstract for just about a year now. I don't know how to paint from within. I'm not sure if my style is chaotic, with no place for the eye to rest. Which is what jumps out at me on pinterest. Not sure how to bring the viewers eye around the painting. I do love your style Louise and would love to paint in that style. I tend to go for the magenta, yellow and some blue. Never trying the umbers, siennas, or neutrals. Is chaos ok? They are colorful.
Waaaw!
It’s been a journey since I watched you last. I really appreciate you I haven’t painted since Christmas February 29 ( leap year) I had open heart surgery. Feeling great and ready for the canvas again. This video was an inspiration 😊 Thank you
Love you, your courses and Art Tribe Louise! Everything you say is absolutely true! I urge everyone to sign up for the free find you joy course it literally changed my life!! 3 years later after taking your courses I’m finally making finished pieces!! It really takes that long! Keep creating for the process not the outcome and the rest will take care of itself it just takes time!! So be patient 😊
As always, Louise, you have come along just when I needed you. You and your work are just wonderful in my humble opinion. Haha. I'm a fan for sure. Too interesting all over is exactly what I'm struggling with. Thank you again for reminding me I'm not alone in the struggle.
