I'm doing well! I haven't been uploading because there are many other things I am interested in or busy with. But I know I want to make more videos. Especially when I move to a bigger studio and have apprentices too.
Ohhhh printers idk that stuff is awsome can you recommend any cheap wireless printers??? And bro how are you healing up I completely forgot that road rash and all you showed
And bro I agree please come to LA I wana get tatted and I feel ya on how you wana make friends but you don’t wana go out, but if you don’t go out you won’t meet people lol I’m the same I just love staying at home or the beach and ima post a video today or what I’m practing I would appreciate help and tips from you or anyone reading this. And have a good one
Ohh I got a good question what ink and supplies do you recommend to use when I tattoo myself because I never thought about it but I don’t really wana use Vaseline cuz it’s like injecting that into the skin maybe idk
I have this exact printer and same ink, when I print, most of the image is missing. I’ve tried cleaning printer heads and power cleaning. Does this happen to you, do you have any suggestions?
Yeah this actually happened to one of the two printers. It was blurry so I clean the printer head but It actually got worse and worse until it was nearly all missing like what you're experiencing. Then I did it one more time and it fixed it completely. I had no idea what to do but that somehow worked lol.. its so unpredictable.
So Manny factors to consider right? I always stress out when the price talk comes up during my emails lol. Anyways this way helps me keep it somewhat consistent. Glad it helps you too.
I never do because I hear it changes the skin and the way it takes in ink. I’m also very light handed so no need. Also, I believe pain is good for you especially controlled pain like a tattoo session.
I just want to say, your videos and view on art speaks volumes to me and has solidified my choice to pursue the highest quality of my drawings and tattoos. I found this video now, the night before I’m doing my first snake tattoo with a single needle. I am ready.
Thank you so much. Absolute best of luck to you. Learn as much as you possibly can from this tattoo and healed updates(in person is best) will teach you a LOT. Be smart, responsible, diligent and hungry with your work and craft. 🙏
Aquí tienes la traducción al inglés: --- I apologize for my English. I am a great admirer of your work, and congratulations on demonstrating the patience, precision, and quality needed to be an artist. I have watched all your videos, and I fall more in love with your style every time. I hope to achieve this in a few years. In one of your videos, you mention that you use a single cup of ink for sessions lasting up to 9 hours. How do you manage to keep the black ink from diluting with plasma and blood so that your tone looks more like a gray? Thank you very much for your content. I hope you continue making it. You are the best. Hugs from Mexico.
I remember saying the ink dilutes with the blood and plasma in one of my videos yes. But now that I tattoo, I don't ever come across this problem. Maybe I have gotten to the point where I do not cause enough damage to the skin for my client to bleed a lot anymore? Or could I have been wrong back then about blood or plasma actually being a factor in the ink drying? Or it could be that I rarely tattoo for 6+ hours in one sitting anymore(I'm getting older I can't tattoo for that long now) so this problem of ink drying naturally does not occur anymore? In any case, If I happen to be right or wrong, you should replace that ink cup half way during one of your many breaks in a 9 hour+ session. Thank you for the question!
Hmm.. I think you need to go lighter. Either get a machine with a lower stroke, lower the voltage, or be lighter with your depth? Sorry its always difficult to help without actually seeing you tattoo in person. Only then I can give you the right answer. Otherwise you must troubleshoot by yourself unfortunately.
Kind of. But drawing is much easier to set up and you can do it anywhere and everywhere. it's like exercising in your back yard instead of getting ready for the gym to exercise. Maybe that is a good analogy.
Do you mean if I stroke the skin on the down and the up? So both instead of just one way? If that's what you mean, then yes I shade mostly striking both the down and up. sometimes it is only one side if I want to be more careful. I do both.
I could do this with 3Rl too yes but I prefer single because it is different for many reasons. A few reasons are, you can see the needle very clearly hitting the skin, smaller ink "pixels" and less skin resistance when the needle pierces the skin.
Love your work. One of my favorite pieces you did awhile back was that typewriter. How do combat redness and swelling? I know everybody’s skin is different but is there a certain method to your breaks/time that you tattoo? I find often the smaller pieces are much more difficult bc you can’t move around too much?
"I've started doing new tattoos, and you are the most patient and skilled tattoo artist I've seen so far. You have inspired me a lot. I hope one day I'll send you the tattoos I've done for you 🙏"
Great video and tattoo brother! I am working my way up to be a pro like you. In this particular one, did you make your grey wash or is just pure black?
Always pure black with my sol nova 3.5 stroke at 7.5V. Only changing depth, hand speed/movements and layers to get the tone I want. This isn't THE way it is just my fav way. You can try diff techniques and greywash too but its possible with just black. Just be very very careful because you cannot undo going too dark.
@@jjjaylud thanks a lot, yes i love the idea of just having that minimal set with just pure black. And I’m practicing only on fake skin at the moment. But I think I’ll do my first real one soon.
I like simple and natural so I recommend dry healing with some lotion if itchy or dry and thats it. I put on the second skin one(a good quality one) for the first 1-5 days for convenience.
fair enough. A lot of these micro tattoos don't last too long because of poor execution. I wanna say I got it down at this point in my career but that's not for me to decide. I have a lot of healed photos some only a few months and some a few years. It's on my instagram story hi lights, I have over 300 uploaded. 😎 I have a lot more but I've been lazy with posting lol. Anyways only time will tell!
@@mandyschmidt7960 I can confidently say if done right, a finalize tattoo should look great 10 years. Now I'm going to give an educated guess for this part: 10-20 years it will look blurry but still good. 20-30 years is will be quite blurry and overall readability will now really depend on the execution, initial size that was chosen, adequate spacing between the details, use of contrast to separate details and offer image readability. 30+ will be very blurry and now have the mysterious vintage look, or just a blurry tattoo depending on how you want to put it lool.
@@mandyschmidt7960 But keep in mind, a lot of tattoos fineline or not, are not done great or done so-so. For example A lot of bigger bolder ones are way too deep and blowout/blur/ink bleed right off the bat. I say this having 10 years experience in the business. I also have a Extremely well done bold tattoo on my left bicep, a so-so bold one done on my right tricep, and a poorly done bold one one on my left shoulder blade. All done around the same time yet the shoulder one looks like it has aged 10x faster.. The same quality variations apply to fine line.
Volts I think you mean right? It's at 7V on my Sol nova 3.5 stroke pen. Be mindful that volts can vary a bit depending on the kind of machine you're using. some machines are stronger.
Do you run your machine at a slower voltage? I want to be able to do this style with my machine that has a 4mm stroke but i worry about the fact that 4mm is so hard hitting that it’ll harm the skin with this etching or carving method. But it seems like the better route for accuracy instead of trying to get it in a single pass. Any insight would be appreciated 🙏🏽
I would recommend a 3.5 stroke or lower if you're having trouble with damaging skin. And make sure the machine isn't "packer" or a strong machine. I run my 3.5 sol nova on 7V
hi jay! i recently discovered your youtube channel and i'm beyond thankful for your educational tattoo content. i had a question about your method/technique - when it comes to single needle i realized that you don't use grey wash. i'm assuming you're achieving light tones by how light your pressure is, does ink stay on skin when the pressure is so light? do light layers help saturate the skin and make it last? if so how do you avoid overworking the skin... i'm assuming you have to walk the thin line and find the perfect balance. thanks for all your help truly.
I appreciate it. Yeah it's possible since I've been doing just these techniques with only black ink for many years now and I have a lot of healed photos to show it. A lot of it you will understand with experience so the beginning is the hardest part unless you have a mentor next to you to guide you every step and in detail. That's extremely rare to find nowadays unfortunately. You can def go too light and it won't stay, and you can overwork the skin. It's a but more complicated since you have to factor in the machine you're using, voltage, cartridge specs, and brand quality for all of these. It's not easy... I've been hosting one day classes and I'm pretty much dumping all of the information and even then it's not going to be fully understood. But ideally I would mentor them long term to fully teach them but I don't have the time and resources for that. I never knew how much depth this was until I started trying to teach it loool.
Do consider using greywash though. Because All black is very unforgiving since tattoo is permanent. experiment with greywash because going too light is better than going too dark.
@@jjjaylud thanks so much for the time to respond, i never leave comments but you’re a master lol. this is the only thing that has me confused. Because with black ink i can get the tone you have by using a very light hand. but, i don’t see how that will stay overtime! or maybe it does because single needle punctures the skin with less resistance than mags? i am able to layer as well but again just trying to keep in mind that i don’t want to overwork the skin. I’m using a bishop packer with amazon single needle with good reviews.
@@donkey3370 I would change the Bishop packer(too strong) and I would use better single needles(I use kwadron 12-01RLLT). Or at least borrow some from a coworker or friend and try it to see if there's a difference. And yes I have over 300 healed photos on my IG with this technique and it stays.
