The home of footage from the old BRL competition, plus other retro rugby league-related tid bits from Brisbane and beyond. There's even a smattering of cricket clips from days gone by.
I miss some of the people from this era but I don't miss Super league and ARL war RIP Big Artie Beetson and Shirley Strachan. And the Brisbane Footy show.
Well, he did end up playing in the Sydney comp and was found out pretty quick. Bennett knew the truth and as soon as he got rid of the hype train the Broncs started winning
Yep as a 12 year old it was a trendy drink but as I got older I didn't like it, can remember saying anything but mellow yellow .I like every other flavor of soft drinks but this one ,probably why they stopped making it
I always thought that the QRL should have chosen the Queensland State League over the Broncos. When Broncos came in 1988, they spoiled both the state league and state of origins. They went for sizzle over substance.
I will say this to the day they bury me. And for eternity. The Queensland State League should not have capitulated to the Brisbane Broncos but chosen autonomy. The Broncs ruined the Brisbane system. This caused perdition for our great suburban game.
13:07 to 13:25 - Denis Spagarino would never get back into first grade, so it was more than just a “holiday”! It’s interesting to see the footage of that game, which is the only footage from the first of a five-game sequence where the Panthers would concede just two tries and 24 points, in the process starting what would be their greatest era until quite recently.
His Brother-in-law did a documentary about him on ABC broke my heart at first i didn't know about the last filming his brother-in-law did in my home town, a story about his past and how his wife became a Principal in a remote Community. His kids have beautiful souls, lovely and friendly people! I didn't know anything about him and his wife, but I saw pictures of him with his family in his wife's office but didn't know who he was until I watched the Documentary ! Seeing videos of him I could see that his kids have beautiful warming souls like him.
Pretty typical Sydney attitude towards all BRL even now when BRL history is ignored. 79 Valleys team would have pulled down the pants of everyone in Sydney the next year
@@CraigBaldwin-br6cr didn't Norths win the comp in 1980.? I didn't realize how strong the comp was in Brisbane in the 70s 80s no wonder plenty of Queenslanders were getting into the Aussie side with out playing in Sydney first Lewis Murray Consecu Miles Close Scott Fulton Smith Neibling probably missed a couple but think the 83 Aussie test side second test had 9 Queenslanders most playing in Brisbane comp I'm not sure which of them played for valleys
@@joelmonkley6177 Valleys actually played better in 1980 on the whole and were streets ahead of the pack after the normal season but were decimated by injury and went out in straight sets in finals and rightfully so. Can recall seeing combined Brisbane play Easts / Roosters that year at Land Park and a lot of people saying that Valleys would have been better off playing than the team selected. A lot of the guys you mention were later. Similar debates about Wynnum mid 80s being up there with Canterbury. Pre Broncs era in Brisbane was quite strong and before my time there were similar arguments and lot of results to support it around Ipswich and Toowoomba being stronger than Brisbane.
A unit of a man Much respect and those who shared the paddock with flare , passion dedication commitment just a few that come to mind , many others that contributed gave the same and attained that same status and recognition Much appreciated respect but there is only one Big Mal
True story. I was at the North Ipswich Reserve when Alf made his first appearance in reserve grade Jets. Fans were joking this schoolboy should not be there. 2 years later he is Maroons half back.
I'll never forget the time Steve Renouf was on BFS and was asked by the female (Rebecca Wilson, I think her name was) "How do you handle your knockers?" Room full of boys, well, you know what happened. Sniggers all round.
The game was pretty much rubbish because the ref was embarrassingly bad. He should be ashamed of himself. No wonder Queensland like beating NSW these days.
