They look pretty good so-far! I'd absolutely reccomend filling in those details. Maybe even try to get the chest runes with a smaller brush if you develop enough control? Either way I can't wait to see where you go from here!
I'll admit, I'm a touch disappointed that we couldn't have gotten the dowlnoadable faction packs this week instead of next week. Because. . . RIP Destruction players, you get your rules the day before Skaventide launches. But I'm still *very* excited for all the new rules. I know I'll be doing lots of theorycrafting and listbuilding once we get everything.
Agreed, I didn't even touch on that because really to get them this week wouldn't have put off their plans any, and it would be fun for players to start list building ASAP. But the bare minimum expectation from me is to release this info all at once.
@@TheBugB you have to buy the battletomes to unlock the content (one battletomes are out) but you also need to subscribe to Warhammer + to unlock features like being able to build more than one army list at a time. Apparently when a battletome comes out all the free faction info will be taken off. And unlike the current app, you won't be able to see warscrolls of factions you don't own the battletome for.
100%. It was *fine enough* for 3rd edition. But this shit is just obnoxious. I just hope that New Recruit keeps stuff up-to-date without too much wait time.
I pre-ordered the Skaventide box as my first AoS purchase. I’m pretty excited. Tho I probably won’t be in a position to play with them for like 6 months. It takes me ages to paint and build models. I gotta setup painting days with my friends or I’ll never be able to play 😂
Thats so exciting! And honestly the best choice to get into it. I definitely found setting regular paint times in advance helped me progress through my projects, that's a big one though!
I'm quite excited for Lumineth as well. My runners-up would have to be Ossiarch Bonereapers, Nighthaunt, and Daughters of Khaine(not necessarily in that order). I'll be more excited for Stormcast when we see all the other new models they'll be getting after the Skaventide box. But make no mistake, I'll 100% be diving head-first into those launch box models on release, starting with Stormcast.
@@KamenRiderGreed I really like the command traits for the Ossiarch Bonereapers, I think the abilities are cool but very thematic in terms of how organized an army they are in the lore.
@@mysidia Yeah, from some of the previews we got they're still all about overlapping buffs, as is typical of Death Armies. But they still overall seem like an elite army, which is good. But there is one question I have, what do you mean by "command traits"? Do you mean the Heroic Traits that any, non-General Hero can now take? Or are you referring to the Relentless Discipline "Commands" that they can use as their army rule?
I’m pretty new to painting minis (well and painting in general) and have never mixed paint before, so don’t take this advice too seriously if it doesn’t make sense. But if your paints are in dropper bottles (or you can get a pipette), you can make paint recipes in terms of drops. So you can do like light grey is 1 drop of white and one of grey and then dark could be like 1 drop of black, 2 drops of grey. Then you can write down your recipe and be able to replicate it on a consistent basis.
@@mysidia it’s gotta be said shaking the GW paints is way easier than the ones in dropper bottles in my opinion. I have to shake my Vallejo paints forever and my GW paints are like half the time. I even added little metal paint mixing balls to all my paints and it helped the GW paints a lot but the Vallejo paints not so much cause how thin the dropper bottles are. I would say pipettes are going to be the cheaper option in terms of starting up the paint drop recipes
What I've found from painting my Stormcast is that gold is surprisingly difficult. I originally base coated with Retributor Armour and shaded it with Agrax Earthshade because that's how they showed me in the Warhammer store, but it turned out looking super orange to me. I've been a lot happier with Retributor Armour shaded with Guilliman Flesh thinned down a bit (it's a contrast paint, not a shade) and applied selectively so I mostly get it into the recesses and areas I want in shadow. That gives a slightly rosy color to the gold that I like. Liberator Gold is a brighter gold that I use for the baubles on my Sylvaneth. I may have to try a Stormcast based in Liberator Gold to see if I like it better. It's also hard to highlight gold. I've seen some YT tutorials where they can edge highlight, but when I try I either can't tell the difference at all or it's way too obvious and looks out of place. I've been going heavy on my Sylvaneth lately, but when I try Stormcast again, I'm planning to try drybrushing either with a silver or a brighter gold.
Appreciate all the insight. I think edge highlighting with silver is a really cool idea. I'm going to give that a try this weekend. I like the idea of using a lighter wash, I started thinning my aggrax earthshade because it's so dark and grimy
Damn, they look great, especially when you're showing them in your little white "studio"! You're right, it is a lot harder to paint, but it's hard to not want to build them right away 😢
It's hard to balance wanting to take my time and paint/assemble piece by piece and just putting models together right away so that they can be used on the tabletop!
Either my Kairic Acolytes for Disciples of Tzeentch. Not because of the Trim that everyone complains about but because of the skin. I undercoated them with too dark a color to paint them easily with contrast paint. So I had to do ALOT of experimenting with the skin until I found a recipe that I liked. Otherwise, probably my own Lumineth army, Wardens specifically. Their tiny lines of trim, broken up with panels of white armor plus painting the sword-scabbards glued to their backs was absolutely nightmarish! I still haven't finished them, even though I've done over half the work on them! Next time I build Wardens I'm not just leaving off the shields, I'm leaving off those scabbards too.
Easy, if you feel bored or not like it, quit it and just play when you want, nothing is gonna disappear, you are not losing anything, thats what I do form time to time with some gachas and it works.
@@mysidia dang it i got into it cos of the advent children character releases got cloud and tifa fully awakened and now im hooked but theres so much stuff to upgrade awaken enhance so many menus i just get lost 90% of the time
I completely understand what you're saying. Keep doing whatever is mentally benefitting you - because the moment you let it take over, you'll eventually stop putting out videos completely. So make the content you're enjoying!
I'm happy so far. Magic always felt so inconsistent with not enough spell dice to cast or getting unbinded even if you get a successful cast. I think anything that makes them more consistent is good overall for the army. Plus games took forever with so many casters on the board. Still very curious what they will do with Teclis.
Fair points, I don't have an issue from a game design perspective, but lore-wise it seems less fun :P. Definitely want to see Teclis as well, that's going to be a big reveal.
@@mysidia yeah I am! I’ve been having a good time in classic wow. I was 1 of 3 ppl in my guild to get a Shadowmourne in ICC. Now they let us use it for transmog in cata too. So I’m having a good time haha. I know a lot of ppl hate on cata but I’m having a good time. Working towards my tier 11, 4 set right now
@@mysidia me too though I promised myself I wouldn’t buy the launch box until I finished my T’au pathfinders and I’m only like half way through them haha. Starting to look like I’m going to get that launch box 😂
1k is a little harder to do everything you a want on deployment. Ideally you both screen your vital units and setup to take2-3 objectives but the list size might not be enough to do both. The missions are more designed for 2k armies, so only having half that means its a little more technical
I can see that for sure, in a later game I had more success castling up on two objectives, but the limited screeners meant that I was very open to deepstrike mechanics.
@@mysidia well I was playing my ever so loyal Stormcast Eternals against some sylvaneth and i remember my opponent telling me that I could use my army to deepstrike and attack his units form behind and I tried it, got the charge off, and wiped a unit of dryads in one go. I know he opened himself up for that on purpose but he was so helpful and encouraging that it felt like a win! Ever since then I’ve loved finding cool strategies I can do to catch my opponent off guard it’s my favourite way to play. Now it’s 2 years later and 4 armies in and I have not looked back!
Warhammer Aos is a big screening game compared to 40k. Make sure you always protect your squishy shooty units when you can, in aos you can shoot in combat:)
Come see how my first match went: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CDh62PJIvLI.html This is an older video from my second channel that I'm bringing over to this channel because I think it will still be helpful! In 2 days the partner video (playing my first game) will be out, I recommend checking that one out next!
The main problem with temptation mechaninc is specifically the run and charge portion. Redeploy counts as a run roll so they can auto 6 redeploy. Counter charge is charge and thats an auto 12-inch counter charge. Then there the battle tactics which is where the game losing propositions are. 1 battle tactic requires you not be in combat. I also belive 1 requires no enemies withen 6 inches. So free max movent could cost you the game. There others about killing specific unit. So you redeploy to deny or make charge harder but because of temptation they can auto 12. There one where you need to control a terrain piece now they can redeploy or possibly charge max distance to deny and counter it complety removing failure. Sure you can screen and try to play around these issues. Its making the game needlessly harder for slaanesh player to use their abilities and win. Why would make it easier for you opponent to win and harder for yourself. This the main problem with tempt dice. Plenty of armies would take auto d3 mw from each temptation dice for auto 6 run or 12 inch charge. These can easily be game winning moves.
Thanks for sharing the deeper context of why its a problem. I hadn't considered redeploy or the battle tactics implications. It's a shame they went so hard with this nerf, you've gotta think that they've been testing this internally.
See what I did to prep for this match in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--NNc7yYmeJE.html This is a re-post from my old channel. I cover my first ever game of Age of Sigmar (3rd Edition). This should give you a good idea of what it's like to go out to a store and play your first game!
Honestly I was very underwhelmed with the slaanesh rules. I think temptation dice were a bit too strong before but this was a bit of an over correction. There is almost no reason to say no to the dice. It doesn’t even benefit the slaanesh player really if you take it. It wasn’t nearly as much of a choice. I just had a game against a slaanesh player and every turn I was doing 4d chess in my mind to think if I should take the dice or not and counting his depravity points to see if I can stop him from getting a. Keeper of secrets
Well said. Definitely an overcorrection. It's one of the coolest lore connections to skills in the game that I've seen so far, I wish it were done justice.
I appreciate it, especially as a Warhammer adjacent player who's always tempted by it. That being said, even though you're speaking my love language and scratching my itches, I don't think you're serving the Warhammer community as a whole. This is defore topical than the established players l know like to go. But I think it's a great step towards that end goal. Great production and enunciation.
If you ask me, I think these are on the whole good changes. The army is a lot less micro-intensive, and now it feels like you don't have to memorize a flowchart to play them, which I love personally. I'll break down my thoughts by each of the different abilities, then cover Warscrolls that I want to mention. So even though the army lost a lot of rules, plenty of armies did, and I think based on what we've seen so-far Lumineth will do just fine. Let's start with Shining Company since I don't have much to say on Lightning Reacitons, it stays winning like it always has. So even though Shining Company now has opprotunity cost, which does affect the durability of your Vanari units, I don't mind that, mostly because I no longer need to buy a bunch of movement trays to keep them in proper formation, it's just a thing that happens. Second, Power of Hysh. Changing it like this cuts out alot of faff if you ask me, becuase as cool and flavorful as it was to have even your basic battleline be Wizards, there was *alot* to track since they could all take lore spells, plus, you could always fail Power of Hysh on your most important units and you'd be borked that turn if you didn't have a Lord Regent to cast Greater Power of Hysh. But now all of that is gone, and it's just an ability you turn on. Is it less flavorful, sure, but it massively streamlines the gameplay experience since you no longer need to roll to cast(Power of Hysh or a Lore Spell) on every one of your Wardens, Sentinels and Dawnriders. Next is Deep Thinkers, and I don't have much to say here. +1 to cast is great, even if it's just for Scinari Wizards. I just hope that this doesn't go to crazy town with Teclis letting you bring any Heroes in his regiment. I'd like the Tec-Nado to remain a relic of prior editions. Thanks. Enduring as Rock. I enjoy the Alarith Temple units. They're not my favorite Temple personally, but worsening Rend has always been an effective durability buff, and being able to just. . . always have that on with another Facet of War is going to be pretty strong imo. I saved the best for last, Move Like the Wind. This might be my personal bias coming out because my favorite of the full Temple rosters is the Hurakan Temple, but I can't help it. This looks SO good! I never liked the old Move Like the Wind, it always felt really gamey and not that useful, but this is just free movement that lets your Wind Temple units properly Skirmish, darting in-and-out of enemy threat ranges like they were always meant to and I couldn't be happier about it! Now for Warscrolls, I think the twins were a good first pick, even if I would have liked to see Teclis just to know what BS GW made him capable of this time, I will wait until we get full rules before making any judgement on him this time(I have alot to say about Teclis from past editions, almost none of it is good). But the Twins were a good pick! They show alot of what you want to see out of this army as a sampler, it's a good Wizard with fun, flavorful rules, and the reworked the army's most BS spell from the last two editions to ease the fears of those who dreaded its return. No notes from me, the Twins were good before, they're still good now, arguably better now that damage numbers have been rebalanced to allow Ellathor to maybe contribute to fights meaningfully, great stuff. Then there's my boy Sevireth. They did him dirty in 3rd edition after the meta-terror that was Fox-Force-Five. But now he's back and actually supports Wind Temple Units! HALLELUJA!!! That was always one of my biggest issues with Wind Spirits in prior editions, they were useful, they could skirmish with decent shooting and had movement tricks for days, but they didn't really work with your other Hurakan units, making me feel like there was a bit of ludonarritive dissonence in that part of the army, especially when GW completely gutted Windmage Symbiosis in 3rd edition. But all of that is in the past, now Sevireth properly supports his followers like an Aelementor shoud! Combined with his better armor compared to prior editions, I'm really excited now to get him painted and on the tabletop! This whole article has me excited to paint my Lumineth, but this new Sevireth Warscroll is tempting me to skip my peas and carrots and go straight for desert.(I won't actually do that though, I still have an absolute ton of other models to get through first) Stoneguard, maybe a hot take here, but I think this unit has only improved since 3rd edition. No more remembering paired Hammers v.s. regualr Hammers, they're one profile. They may have lost their crit bonus mortals, but their Hammers are all Damage 2, which is a HUGE upgrade! And going from a 4+ Ward against Mortal Damage to a regualr 5+ Ward I think is a better shift because it lets them tank more effectively in most every phase against armies that don't care about dealing Mortal Damage like Khorne or Ironjawz. Combining that with their Facet of War will make these guys hard to shift off an objective, like Stoneguard are supposed to be. Vanari Auralan Wardens. . . I don't have much to say. I don't mind that they're not Wizards, their ability to Strike First on a 4+(3+ against Cavalry) is perfect for their flavor and they feel like a solid, well rounded unit that can do reasonable damage for a basic troop. Their numbers didn't meaningfully shift, but they didn't need to. They just need to be pointed reasonably. Finally, let's talk about the Sanctum of Amyntok. I was almost scared of the 4+ Ward, but its banishment value is super low, so I don't think it'll be an issue. I'm just happy I have a mechanical reason to paint it, because it has never been good until now. Overall, this article has me *incredibly* excited for the full rules, even if two of the Warscrolls we already saw in the exhibition match, I knew we weren't going to get 100% new info, but the new stuff we did get was great at showing what this army will play like in 4th and I couldn't be more ready for it to finally come out.
I agree overall that it is an improved play experience and I do think Wardens and Hammers got better. But thematically I think a bit is lost. I'm sure some of that will be built back with the battletome coming out (hoping for Phoenix temple after the recent lore!). Overall I'm more excited to play Lumineth after reading this article.
Narrator: Did Games Workshop ruin the Lumineth Elf Faction? Original Warhammer Fantasy Player: What the hell are Lumineth Elfs? Narrator: Its an Age of Sigmar Elven faction that... Original Warhammer Fantasy Player: U lost me at Age of Sigmar
Hahah I wanted the video to hopefully bring in some new viewers and I figured Lumineth Realm-lords doesn't really mean anything to someone that doesn't play Age of Sigmar.
So that was Warhammer Fantasy, Age of Sigmar is basically like Warhammer Fantasy 2. Like 10 years ago there was a cataclysmic event in the lore, the world was destroyed by Chaos, and Age of Sigmar is the post-apocalyptic setting for the "medieval warhammer"
@@Polak966 Right, ok makes sense. So if you have an army in Warhammer Fantasy, were you basically just told to kick rocks? What was the functional reason for the “sequel”?
@davidhollinshead6995 mmm not exactly, but it can be perceived that way. The gameplay itself has changed, where there's a few less models per unit, the models are a bit bigger, and the bases changed from square to round. There's more individuality between each model, and they can wrap around opponent models. In the original, you had to move models inside a frame. Lots of models are pretty similar, though, so if you don't want to buy the new ones, you can, mostly, replace the bases and "proxy" the units into Age of Sigmar. It's more nuanced than that, maybe Mysidia can make a video explain the differences between Warhammer Fantasy/Old World and Warhammer Age of Sigmar
If u ask that an original Warhammer Fantasy player he would call u a heretic :D And no it istn. Warhammer Fantasy and Age of Sigmar is like Diablo II and Diablo Immortal. One is a pop cultural master piece and the otherone is a cheap cash grab.
I have a few videos on that very topic that came out in the last week! I'll be doing more new player videos soon as well and also some lore stuff. Thanks for listening!
There's a launch set coming out in mid-July, Skaventide. So if you like immortal demigod warriors who lose more humanity with each passing battle in the Stormcast Eternals, or scheming mad-science Rat Men in the Skaven. Then start there. There would also be a tie-in novel released for it. And those have always been good introductions to the lore no matter what edition. Hope that helps! I love helping get new players into the hobby so don't hesitate to ask either of us questions. In fact, you can find my fingerprints on alot of these Warhammer videos.😉
Ok the Lumineth aren't ruined, but they are one of the more obvious casualties of the index edition. BUT I want to know what you think! Let me know if you think the Lumineth were done dirty by GW or if they are still looking solid for the next edition!
I like to consider myself a bit of a fan of this army, and I think this was a great video! I just wish that we got to see more of the buffs you can pass out in this army. Since that is the heart and soul of DoK gameplay.
as a guy that collect figurine. I would say 333 buck is relatively cheap cause a figure could cost 250 or more depend on studio that make it. and that is a price for a single figure. already spend 1000+ dollar on figurines. probably will try gunpla cause seem fun making one. ❤
And with figurines you just have them, but with Warhammer you need to build and paint, Gunpla you just build (but have the option to paint if you want). Those hours spent in the hobby are very valuable IMO
@@KamenRiderGreed I read it this morning! I couldn't believe they chose the same warscrolls to reveal. I figured that because we got some reveals that this faction focus would come later but would have more info. Nope.
@@mysidiaThat's true, we did get the army rule and two of the Warscrolls we saw were already revealed in that exhibition match. However, to be fair, we didn't have rules for the Sanctum, Ellania and Ellathor, Vanari Wardens or the Battle Formation rule. So even if there's some unfortunate overlap, I'm happy that we know more about Lumineth ahead of launch than nearly every other faction.
@@KamenRiderGreed thats true! Plus the twins were already on my wishlist and now I know they are super rad and safe to buy. Although its a bummer their ally focused rules are gone
If you ask me, this was a pretty massive jump in quality! The lore intro you give at the beginning is nice andI loke the bit at the end going over design intent. I'd love to see you cover more Faction Focus articles.
Thanks for migrating over to this channel with me 😁. I was hoping to see a comment from you! I'll definitely be covering more articles and then I may take those lore snippets and make a compliation video covering all factions!
As someone who is very inyerested in OBR as a future army (oh god I have too many armies) this is really helpful! Hearing it discussed really clears some things up for the revealed rules.
Great video. Really concise and easy to follow. I knew this faction existed, but adding the lore + showing off the models I'm really pissed... because I can't afford to build a third army 😢
Love to see the AoS content! I've played a couple games of 3rd on TTS, thinking about getting into it with 4th. Gonna check out your overview vids on the side channel in a little to get a feel for the rules changes. How are you liking the edition / previews so far?
So far I'm loving almost every change I'm seeing. I really want to see more shooting units and I also want to get a feel for 3" combat range, but overall it looks really solid
I love gunpla (as you can see in my background 😁). I was talking to a viewer on discord and he mentioned he wished there was a tabletop game revolving around gunpla which I agreed with, man would that be cool. Because playing warhammer is definitely a huge part of enjoying the hobby for me
Tips for getting into Warhammer: I would suggest to any new comers to the hobby you can find a lot of cheaper models from 3rd party companies or 3D printing is a massive money saver, if you don't want to get into 3D printing you can buy the physical printed mini's for a very reasonable price. Also worth noting Codex's are incorrect within a few weeks of release, most players don't buy them for that reason, all the rules for your faction can be found on the Internet for free.
I'm still messing around with how I want to cover these Faction Focus updates. I'd like to summarize them in shorter videos if I could, but there is so much to cover. Maybe I can make a summary for each Grand Alliance once they are all out.
Fair point about there being alot to cover. But I do think this new format is a massive improvement. Although, as much as I like the idea of doing an overview on each article, I suspect after the last one drops, the following Sunday will announce Skaventide going up for preorder. And if it's a 2 week preorder(whichthese usually tend to be), that's about how much time you'd have to prep those videos before we, in theory, get the full rules and points for each faction. If you think you can get something put together in that time, go for it, I won't stop you. But I don't want you to spend a bunch of time and effort on a video series talking about faction focus articles, only for them to release right before we get all the rules and points. As for the next articles I want to see, we're getting Daughters if Kahine today, we saw a mini faction-focus for Lumineth a bit ago when they showed off their rules and some units in an exhibition match. So. . . I guess Hedonites of Slaanesh, just because I've always been interested in that army and have just now pulled the trigger on them by buying their terrain piece and Endless Spells before the price increase. Plus, GW has always struggled making it either too strong, too weak and *always* reliant on spam. So I hope they figure out how to avoid that this time.
