I am a self-taught hobbyist photographer currently travelling around everywhere in my van with my dog Erik. I am a lover of all Wild things in life and for all the details in this world - my channel is an ode to this. It is a celebration of all real and raw things that this incredible world has to offer. And, it is about capturing photography in action - hiking to the highest mountain, waiting for the sun to set and enjoying the fleeting moments in life. I hope you enjoy my page which is full of passion, enthusiasm and love.
I'm not sure if you've mentioned, do you use any film simulation or edit the look of your wildlife videos? I love all of them but especially the colors and overall look of the puffins. I've never edited video before!
Used a 16-55 for a few years now and mated to an X-Pro2 which for me it works well with. I have a Peak Design 6L bag and the X-Pro2, 16-55, and a 70-300 fit in snugly but manageably. Thanks and best to Eric from Archie the dachshund.
It’s funny you should say that because the harder I work the more I can do trips like this. I guess there is a correlation between working hard and paying for your own hobbies 🤷🏻♀️
I’ve had the 80mm 1.7 on my 100S. Just as good!! Looking forward to the 500mm vid, just picked mine up 🎉

i been thinking a lot about getting a zoom lens, coz prime is good, but if u dont have 2 camera bodies with 2 different lenses u may get in situations that u miss the shot, and being honest, after watching ur video i am also considering the xh2
The Fuji GF 500mm 5.6 seems to be a very nice Lens, compact and light weight. Now Fuji just need to update all their GF Lenses, so they can be more compact and light weight. Some of the new Hasselblad Lenses are very compact and light weight, though they have a shutter built into the Lens ! If Fuji updates all their Lenses to much more compact and light weight, then I guess that the Fuji GF system can take more of the market from the high megapixels full frame Cameras !
The Fuji GFX 100SII are a really good Camera to a fair price compared to the GFX 100 II, but it is a bit big and heavy Camera and it is even worse with most of the Fuji GF Lenses, the price with at least 3 Lenses will set you a lot back, Hasselblad have more compact and light weight Lenses, though they have shutter built into the Lens ! So I am very happy to have smaller and more compact Cameras, Sony A7RIVA and Sony A7RV which not quite have the same image quality, but good enough for me as a hobby photographer. I used to be a professional Photographer, if I still were pro, then I would have bought the Fuji GFX system. But for me now as a hobby Photographer the Sony system are the best, I guess the Sony system will be the best for most hobby photographers and for many professional Photographers too.
Absolutely loved this review. The black and white foxgloves looked incredible. I actually liked the movie shots, something lovely about the motions. Great lens. Really enjoyed the shots. 👍😀😀
Amazing video, love that smile. There is an adaptor from gfx to Fujifilm X mount,so you could try your idea of slow motion with the lense. Albeit not with gfx camera pixel outcome. Always love your style of presentation. Maungaturoto, New Zealand
Very interesting video Victoria. It takes photography to a different level, a professional lens that suits you big time. Thanks for the information, a little tooo expensive for me but hey Fuji. Let Victoria keep the camera and lens as she has supported you for many years. 👍
I have just purchased the GFX 100s ii and I have three GFX lenses already, but I'm definitely looking at purchasing this lens as it has multitude of uses
I have had a few people ask this and i’m not too sure. Someone said the GFX 100 II can due filming at 120p in FHD which is great but I love my 120p filming in 4K on the XH2s. The GFX series is noticeably slower than the x system but actually it didn’t make a huge difference to what I was doing. I think filming and nippy photography I would keep my x system but I think for that extra depth in my photography i would shoot the GFX series. I would like to test the other GFX camera bodies as this might change my decision and I am also going to shoot some more wildlife stuff with the gear soon (I’ve borrowed it again) so I can test it some more. It is a hard decision because I love the x-system, so many one for filming and the other for photography 🙂
I have been waiting for your review, thanks for that. Beautiful images you got with the GFX. It looks like an amazing camera with crazy good clarity. Just the look on your face should sell a few of them! I like your humble opinion, I'm with you on the system we use, which is the X-H2S. but I think for me, I will stay with my X-H2S with my 200 mm F2 and my 150- 600 mm. If I was doing more landscape and portraits, I would love the GFX system. But the GFX won't do the 120fps, slo-mo, and I use that a lot, also in photo mode I think is 7 fps, much slower than the X-H2S. I still like the crop sensor that gives me much more reach as I need that as a Wildlife Photographer. But we always dream of better cameras and the GFX is better in some regards, but my system is better for me. I get spoiled with the 200mm f2, can't beat the sharpness out of that lens, and the background blur is so nice. I have a Viltrox 75mm f1.2 and wow, great results like the 200f2. Creamy backgrounds, gotta love that. I never used to be a third-party lens guy, but after watching all the reviews, I had to give it a try as you know there is not a lot of lenses for the FUJI system, you should give it a look. Will be watching for your Wildlife review on the GFX system.
Thank you for your comment and kind words it is much appreciated! And thank you for all the points you have spoken about, a lot of these I am actually going to cover in the GFX100s II review. I don’t actually dream of a better set up, it was just good fun to test out and use this equipment and give a user experience of anyone looking at swapping but i’m pretty happy with my set up, I love my XH2s and i’ve really missed shooting with it, especially the filming side of things. So I won’t be selling my gear to swap (also can’t afford it either) but I am very happy to have got the chance to use the GFX system and capture some lovely moments with it. Keep enjoying your gear and having fun, that’a the main thing! Especially with the 200mm lens - which I love! 🙂
The images are something else, the whole is certainly greater than the sum of the parts. There's a dreamy vibe to the shots, you're right, it elevates the mundane into something special. I wonder if you can replicate this with the crop sensor set up, but then you'd miss out on the immense resolution. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much! I am glad you noticed the elevation, it definitely does, I can’t express what it does but it just changes (as you say) the mundane to something magical. I just loved the finish. It’s a good question, I have shot with my crop sensor for nearly 5 years now and it does have the same beautiful magic - i still adore my equipment. But the depth of field is definitely more pronounced on the GF series. So it is different but I guess that is the beauty of the different series 🙂 thank you for watching 🙂
The term medium format in the digital world is of course small compared with real medium format relating to 120 film. Plus the fuji medium format isnt as big as some Phase One and Hasselblad cameras. Ive used Hasselblad MF and agree that details and finesse are visually astounding but for web and social media the difference to FF or APSC is never going to show. For prints the bigger the sensor then the bigger the print can be. Review ? More of an advert.
Yup. It is a review but thanks for saying it is an advert, i’ll take that as a compliment as I am a hobbyist who does this for fun. So thanks! And yes, totally, that’s why I said if you are a professional this would be a good bit of gear. Not everyone posts on social. My own gear is the APSC sensor stuff and I love it. So yeah, not sure of the point of your comment but thanks for the compliment 🙂✌🏻
@@nigelroberson8911 you say is never going to show but ive noticed that extra detail in each post Victorias using the GSX. The photography world can really come across ‘black and white’ or ‘this or that’ at times. Reminds me of little Britain sketch ‘computer says no’ Don’t get caught up in what everyone else thinks and focus on what your eyes are seeing! I’m not technical and far prefer an honest hands on review.
@oliverwarren9141, I really appreciate this, thank you so much. I do notice a difference, especially depth of field and softness. I’m glad you see a difference too and with the black and white shots. It is very magical I think. Thank again for this, the reviews are completely honest and from the heart, so I do really your thoughts and comment 🙏🏻🌲
@@wildandfreevictoria The point of my post was to highlight that it wasnt a review. Have a look at reviews on DPReview. So much you left out. Making recommendations to professionals based on what youve done isnt a cogent argument. Yes its an awesome camera but you need more detail to call it a review.
Well that is very subjective and just your opinion. No I haven’t looked at other people’s reviews as I am not copying someone else’s studio testing or thoughts, I actually go out in the field and test the equipment in scenarios it will actually be used in and come up with my own decision based on my own experience and not someone else’s - hence why I said a user experience. If you don’t like this method of review that is ok, but it is how I review items by actually using them for their intended purpose. There is a very big difference between a technical review and a user review. You may disagree with this method but many people would disagree with you and have actually found my reviews very useful and find this type of review more useful than a hyped technical review - check my comments which will back this up.
Excellent review (as usual)! Now I want this lens (to be fair, it was already on my list). By the way, the GFX 100 II (without the s) supports 120p slowmo (Full HD).
Thank you very much! It is a beautiful lens! And I did not know that! I will totally have to try the GFX100 II but I might fall in love with it with the slowmo filming 😄
Aw thank you, I appreciate it. I wouldn’t swap my XH2s, that is my love of a camera for the filming and photography. But if for just a photography camera I probably would swap (if price wasn’t an issue), the clarity was incredible especially for landscape and that depth of field perspective was beautiful 🙂
Wonderful review! That looks like a real cracker of a lense for the GF series. If I were a Fujifilm shooter, that would be a great addition. Thanks for your thoughts. You did an excellent job as always!
Really enjoyed watching this again it’s so nice listening to people so passionate about what they do. Can I ask you which camera you prefer and why? I’m coming from an XT4 and thinking about upgrading to an XT5 or an XH2 and wondered if you could give me any thoughts on using both. Many thanks in advance 🙏
Thank you! Yes the whole experience has been wonderful and so great to see what medium format cameras are like. Thank you so much for your kind words! There is lots on the way but got some more testing before then 🙂✌🏻
Your videos bring so much joy. Thank you. I have not commented before, but wanted you to know that you have inspired me to return to photography after a long break and that your efforts are very much appreciated.
Aw thank you! This is such a lovely comment to read and thank you so much for sharing it, I am very touched by it. I hope you feel reinvigorated for your photography and enjoy yourself ☺️
All of your GFX videos have me in awe! Wonderful images and very clear explanations regarding the system’s pros and cons. You have me considering Medium format for my landscape needs. ❤
Aww thank you so much for this! I really do my best to show an all rounded experience. And definitely have to speak and all pros and cons, when I review the GFX100s II i’ll also go through some more then. I have to say, medium format for landscape was just incredible, I literally loved it sooooo much ✌🏻♥️
Wow... Thanks for taking us on a marvelous adventure ! The Lac Blanc evening experience was stunning even on my screen so I can only imagine how it must have been in reality. As a landscape photographer I'd have gone emotional as well probably ;-) Hopefully next time I'm in Chamonix I can make it up there (last year didn't work out for several reasons). Loved the filming, atmosphere, chats and thoughts... Keep up the nice work! ☺
Just came across this video, and this is a beefy question, but I am looking to purchase a new camera. My first camera was a Nikon D5300 in 2018 which I still am using today. I want to change over to a mirrorless camera system and have been eyeing the Sony a6400. However, i have come across many videos of fujifilm users liking the x-t30ii and the x-100v so I have been reconsidering. I like the built in filter features fuji offers. I'm not looking to break the bank, but do you have any recommendations on budget friendly options? Was also wondering how much weather proofing matters as that seems to be a deciding factor as well in my decision.
What an incredible experience to witness in the wild and beautifully captured. I saw grizzly bears for the first time in Canada and it was sheer jaw dropping wonder.
Key part to using this lens - mechanical shutter… any movement - even on fast shutter speeds - on electronic shutter, results in massive amounts of rolling shutter! This is for photos, and tested on the GFX100S… not the MK II, but still, the rolling shutter was horrible, and I don’t expect the new mkii to be that much better here
@@wildandfreevictoria yes, and I’m impressed how video holds up with your pans, and lack of rolling shutter… I have not tried video at all on GFX, I also have the X-H2S, much better suited for that, but I only shoot stills anyway
Go to Romania and you will not wait long time searching and seeing them. Last days a young woman lost her life, encountering a bear on Jepi Mici road on Bucegi mountain. This shows us how dangerous they can be and react in certain situations.
Yes I have heard this which much be great to see but I don’t want to see bears by the road. I also don’t want to get eaten nor do I want to contribute to the problem of the bears getting too close to people. These are big predators and you have to take responsibility to not cause a problems for the bears or people.
