I personally would like to see Knuckles have a hobby in Archeology, or Geology. Namely for the purpose of learning more about his Tribe, and traditions. I've often pictured him in his Star Hat with a leather jacket. If this happens in the comics, I've not read them, but I'd like it depicted in the games.
I’d say Knuckles no longer being a rival is a good thing. There’s more to his character than his rivalry with Sonic. Shadow as good of a character as he is, isn’t seen by the mainstream as anything other than Sonic’s rival, there’s more to him than that
Knuckles is my favourite character! Give him his own Year of Knuckles! His own spin-off series! And bring back Super Knuckles! Movie Knuckles is a warrior. Just because Movie Shadow has been introduced, doesn't mean you have overshadow him.
Knuckles is part of the reason I wish Sonic went back to how the franchise felt in the 90s and early 2000s. Yes, they are company mascots that need to evolve and change to fit the current culture. Just not like this. Instead of feeling like say Dragonball where the characters have changed to stay relevant in the current landscape, they aren't entirely divorced the culture they came from.
There’s so many sonic characters that it’s hard not to overlook some, and I think a little of that is why i’m so grateful for your videos since your Amy video let me focus on her a little more and this video has allowed me to focus on knuckles a little more
Another awesome video. Knuckles definitely needs more love. Maybe let's not do an entire year of Knuckles. If we keep giving different characters their own year, we're going to end up with the year of Big or something. Knuckles just needs more stuff. I'd love it if he gets his own game. And as much as I love my favourite boy Shadow, it's true he does take away that focus on Sonic's other rivals. Knuckles is regarded so highly by so many fans but he also feels so underrated in a way ?? Man, yeah, for real, BRING BACK HIS SWAG. HIS EDGE. SOMETHING. We can't let this boy sit on the sidelines for much longer !!! I wanna see him more in the spotlight. He has such a unique style and backstory in comparison to other characters in the series and to see him finding a balance between honouring his duty and also branching out into the world a bit more would be a dream. Knuckles absolutely has his own thing going on for him and one of my favourite things is he knows his roots and pays respect to that constantly. His connection to the Master Emerald, the Chaos Emeralds and the energy they emit is so overlooked and I hate that. Sega needs to utilise Knuckles' other strengths. I miss him having a bigger role :(( Also the 'few trusted friends' thing and his loner nature is soo me too ;-; He's a character I relate to in that regard. Tbf Metal Sonic was the first rival being a year older than Knux, but he didn't get fleshed out until later. I like having both of them with Knuckles being an organic Rival, being what Sonic isint, and Metal trying to be what Sonic is, better than him, but inorganic.
Yeah it's tragic how Knuckles was simply just cast aside for smaller roles later on. He deserved so much better. Without him and Sonic 3, the games wouldn't be as well remembered or as successful as they are today. Sadly no one either remembers or cares enough about his roots in Sega.

Oh yeah did you know knuckles is physically stronger than Sonic I'm not trying to underestimate Sonic the reason why Sonic is powerful is because of his speed and knuckles is just physically Superior and whenever people make put him in certain exe games they keep on underestimating knuckles capabilities
An animated anthology series about the different character in the Sonic universe is my dream. But I worry that it would get the necessary budget. The good thing about the promotional animation (like the frontiers prologue) is that they usually are very high quality. But it has been interesting to see, Sega using different studios for these animations so far. They are experimenting, maybe even looking whoch studio would be good for a bigger project..... Sorry for drifting of. I just hope we get more Sonic media.
knux is the only character with the buff and tough archetype that is my favorite character in any media which only ties in to the great storytelling you get with him from older games and the more recent ones (also the comics).
I feel like it's a pretty logical conclusion that Knuckles became more of a friend than staying a rival. There is something very poetic about it-Sonic Channel says that if Sonic is the wind, Knuckles is a mountain destined to stay in one place. But something interesting is that with enough time, the wind can slowly erode the mountain, and I think that's represented in Sonic convincing Knuckles to live life beyond his duty in Frontiers. I think relationship-wise Knuckles is a in good place and I agree he and many others could stand to benefit from more prominence. Personally, I'm waiting for Silver's time to shine.
3:04 Same here. I think there's two main contributing factors for this. I don't know about you, but I loved watching the short demos you'd get when staying at the title screen for too long, because I wasn't good enough to get to some of the levels shown in them, and of course in Sonic & Knukles the demo of Mushroom Hill is played by Knuckles, which is the only case of demo being played by somebody other than Sonic in all the classic Sonic games and that made it stand out a lot. The other contributing factor is that in Mushroom Hill, Knuckles is on a whole different path than Sonic from the very beginning of the level. Very few levels do that, so right off the start of the game you're getting a very different experience if you choose Knuckles.

Knuckles is my fave Sonic character, ffs I got the Sonic & Knuckles logo tattooed on my leg and a giant Knuckles pin right on the front of my jean jacket for a reason, GOTTA REP OUR BOY! 💪 Fr tho, Knuckles is hands down one of the most important characters in the series and it breaks my heart how they’ve thrown him aside these years. Like let’s be honest, along with Shadow, 70% of the series’ lore comes from these 2 characters. And I always thought Knuckles’ back story was SO COOL. I’m SO happy Frontiers put more of a focus on his back story again, but they just gotta pull it off with giving us a deeper look in these upcoming games, and I need Knux to realize things about his past and maybe use some of his own knowledge from his own extinct ancestors in all of that. There are connections between the Ancients and the Echidna Clans of Angel Island that I need to knoooooooow!!! 😭🙏🙏 Also breaks my heart it’s Knuckles’ 30th birthday this year and ya it’s the year of Shadow for the movie promo I get it but still KNUX DESERVES TO BE CELEBRATED!!! 💪 So HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY to no chuckle Knux who’s been one of my favourite characters of all time, and my all time favourite Sonic character since way back in the 90s, almost a full 30 years! 🥳🎉🦔❤🎂🖤
I haven't seen the video yet, but Knuckles (or 'Knux' as I like to him) is the OG Sonic rival. Knuckles is my boy. Knuckles is based. As far as I am concerned, 2024 is the Year Of Knuckles because 2024 IS Knuckles's 30th anniversary after all. My most favourite Sonic game of all time (and my most favourite video-game in general of all time) is Sonic 3 & Knuckles and always will be. I loved collecting the Archie Sonic comics and the Archie Knuckles comics as a kid back in the late 90s and early 2000s. Shadow in my opinion was only good in his first appearance in Sonic Adventure 2 and should have stayed dead because him coming back to life in Sonic Heroes is not as narratively satisfying on an emotional level as his sacrifice at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 being permanent. Knuckles has probably been Sonic's rival before most of the people in this comment section were even born. Also, Knuckles's spin-off game Knuckles' Chaotix is iconic and full of SOVL whereas Shadow's spin-off game in my opinion was forced corporate slop designed only to cash in on Shadow's massive popularity. In my opinion, Shadow's spin-off game was what started Sonic's long Dark Age which we only just barely escaped from during the last few years. I ride with the homie Knuckles.
Knuckles has been my role model as a kid him being an introvert wanting too be alone doing You'r own thing. He is also my number one charatcher from the sonic universe
To think that there was a time where Knuckles was treated more as a rival to Sonic than a buddy, I watched the full Sonic OVA and during the scene before the end credits you get a small funny lil bit between Sonic and Knuckles showing that. Ever since Shadow though Knuckles as a rival is just obsolete now, and there's not really much else that can be done further to his character. One thing I'd definitely love though is more Knuckles and Rouge interactions, really fw their dynamic with each other in SA2.
To be fair he was fairly utilized in Sonic frontiers:final horizon as playable and his writing in frontiers as a whole was solid infact I would argue he had a better arc compare to amy and tails also speaking of knuckles his gliding in final horizon got fixed lol. Also his characterization and writing in the movies is pretty solid too and consistent so..yeah i don't think he's overshadowed
Knuckles is probably my second favorite after Blaze. Really enjoy his character outside of when they over rely on his gullible nature. My favorite part is seeing how far he’s come with Sonic (and, to a lesser extent, Tails/Amy). Always saw him as an annoyed but caring older brother for them and stuff like IDW & Frontiers really enforces that. His banter and body language with Sonic made his scenes the best out of all in Frontiers. Great vid
It's really unfortunate that Knuckles got sidelined as Sonic's Rival for characters like Metal Sonic & Shadow, personally, I think it would be cool if they made Shadow his rival since the Archie Comics & Sonic X have shown them at odds with each other and made it pretty interesting as well
