Retro games and vintage computers. Micro indie video game development. I quit my job in banking to follow my childhood dream of writing computer games. You can watch it all go horribly wrong on this channel. Enjoy!
Not at all. The retro games C64 is a great piece of kit, especially the maxi because it has a working keyboard. For a start you get a much crisper display quality, it can run as a C64 or a Vic20, you can download game images to a memory stick, you can still write basic programs if you want to. What you lose is the genuine feeling when you use the real thing. The quirks and imperfections make the original more interesting. I guess it's a bit like playing analogue music on vinyl versus digital downloads.
It was way more powerful than my first colour computer the c16 that was awful but I loved it, I'd come from a ZX81 so I was blown away at sound and colour graphics
They were fantastic home computers, the c64 and the spectrum were the main thing in the UK but there were more interesting home computers that had really good graphics and sound, the atari 800 for instance
Yeah. Most seem to have grey f-keys but some have the brown. Not sure if that was a UK thing or a manufacturing thing or, more likely, they just got replaced at some stage. I can't say it bothers me too much, but good spot.
I discovered the C64 late in life, but now I am hooked. Cassette decks and disk drives are very inexpensive, at least on this side of the pond (US,) and worth the investment. Otherwise I would recommend a Pi1541 along with a Epyx Fastloader at a minimum.
I was 8 when my mom brought home the white version of the Ti-99, in 1981. This was my first computer experience , and fondly remember playing the games and trying out the basic code snippets in the back of the manual. It was replaced with a Commodore 64 in 1984. Find memories of both systems. Nicely edited video as well.
Games you have to play:Chuckie egg, Commando, Rambo, Who dares wins 2, jet pac, Atic Atac, Renagade, Target Renagade, Bomb Jack, Elite, The way of the exploding fist, Rainbow Island, Dizzy, Head over heels, Skool Daze, The great escape, Manic Miner, Scuba Dive, Exolon, Enduro racer, Match point, cyclone, Auf wiedersehen Monty, Green beret, Spindizzy, gauntlet, Bruce lee, Ikari warriors, IK+, Fairlight, Robocop, Knight lore, 3d death chase , Myth, Turbo esprit, Rex.
I became a programmer thanks to the ZX 81 and the ZX Spectrum. I still love those games even the type in ones. l got myself a PICO Zx from bobricius but it did not come with an sdcard with a game selection. could I ask you where you got yours from? I might be able to purchase the sdcard separately.
There's no doubt it was a big step up from a ZX81 in almost every way - but I think the not particularly crisp 22 column text was my first on-screen impression of the VIC and it was a bit underwhelming.
He's kicking the ball, He's kicked the ball, He has fallen over 😂😂😂 This was great and I enjoyed it much more Then Most of yesterday's game 😂 I used to love playing sensible soccer as a kid, I had it on the SNES , Congratulations on the win that's it the Kicking of the ball has concluded 😂😂😂
The question is - should I do another one for the next round? And so on, until the final. I didn't think about that when I made this one. 🫤 I might have to be more imaginative with my commentary?!
@@pixel_fandango You should definitely do another one for the next round, Especially as it probably is going to be the last for England Ha ha ha, You don't need to change the commentary I found it hilarious
The TI99 was the first home computer I ever saw. My friend over the road, Richard, had one and he had Parsec! I was amazed that we were controlling things on the tv screen. Remember back then the tv was non interactive one way with 3 (or maybe 4) channels here in the UK at that time. His sister had an Atari 2600 and I remember playing Buzz Bombs on that and some driving/flight/tank game. Happy days.
This was great , Especially as I know next to nothing about the system So was really interesting to hear everything you had to say about it, Games you showed looked pretty good as well, I had A Speccy Back in the day and a few of my friends had The Commodore 64 , Is only in the recent times I've heard of this from channels on RU-vid like yourself, I really do enjoy learning soldier about something old 😂 Hope you had a wonderful mid summer weekend mate
This was my first computer and I had a love hate relationship with it. I loved it because I had a computer and could learn to program. I hated it because it was such a useless machine compared to the C64. Later I luckily got a C64 and for me that always feels as the first "Real" computer.
The Vic was my first computer, had a Downsway 16K RAM pack. The sound was great for me, especially the Llamasoft games, like LaserZone and HellGate. Happy memories.😃
You did a great job explaining the Master's capabilities. Especially for a guy from the U.S. who hadn't grown up with the standard BBC Micro or Master, let alone even heard of either until 2016 until I discovered it in Retro Gamer Magazine.
3:15 This is crazy, adjusting cartridge screen positioning using cursor keys. It was just some "agreed contract' , most cartridges would allow for that. Pinball Spectacular only allows this in attract mode, not when the instructions are scrolling by. The reason is different X/Y default offset values in the PAL/NTSC VIC chip registers. Unbelievable how crude the user experiences at the time were, what developers could get away with. I mean, same default values for the VIC chips should have been a priority and if you do need a workaround, then make PAL/NTSC detection and auto-adjustment the norm. Shaking my head... and appreciating how much more brushed-up the C64 turned out. No more crazy memory layout variants depending on the available memory. Just fully-loaded with 64kB, perfect for loading the software into RAM rather than just the program's state. Perfect for pirating software, too.
I think it's great that you've developed your own game, Unfortunately I'm a console game of myself I don't use steam But There are people who watch my channel that do, So I will lig this in the community post, I hope many people get to enjoy your game
