I really enjoyed this analysis. I also couldn't help but feeel dissapointed in how the film treated Sophie's character compared to how she is portrayed in the book. In the film, they reduce the source of her insecurity to be due to her appearance, which is such a shame. In the book, she knows she is pretty and that if Howl catches her alone, he will likely eat her heart. In the book, magic and fairy tale tropes are known to happen in real life. Since Sophie is the *oldest of three sisters*, she knows there is no hope for her to have anything exciting happen for her, or for anything going well if she tries to go and seek her fortune. That always happen to the youngest of three siblings. She is stuck at the hat shop not because she thinks she's to unattractive to do anything else, but because she thinks she's doomed to fail at anything else. ***SPOILER*** Oh and also, in the book, she can use magic. She just doesn't know it at first.
After watching this movie again last night after not seeing it for a few years, the story actually makes zero sense and is rushed as hell at the end. What a shame.
This translates pretty well in my relationship. We don't always feel good enough for eachother love but we see it within eachother, wich in turn let us to understand we can be loved and are worthly of love. So i appreciatie to hear this, thanks
0:45 This has been my favorite movie for years, even before I met my partner. It took us 10 months for us to be official because we were two imperfect people who didn’t think a fairytale-like love could be real. And in fact, one of the times I was rewatching the movie, I was texting him and I realized a few things. 1) He loves me, 2) He was waiting for me to be ready, and 3) I fell in love with him and should give it a shot. We became an official couple soon after. The “Merry-Go-Round of Life” will be one of our wedding songs ❤️
It’s so sad that some people can’t see past the anime, and just get bored, and not pay attention to the story Like I’ve tried, showing Howells, moving castle to several people that are older, and they just can’t see past anime
@@spphrmedia it’s sad they can’t see past the animation, and the fact that the the lips don’t sync up to the words and lose out on an entire magical story that has better rating than any western movie Like the average anime writing is of Oscar quality
3:40 Oh my gosh, I feel robbed. In my native language that line was translated like "they keep the wich of the waste away", which completely changes Howl's character arc and personality
Honestly, this shows it. She wanted to be loved. Not for being a child prodigy, but for being herself. Her praise came because others feared her power. And there was her brother, being praised by their mother. He wasn't a prodigy, he wasn't born to be lucky, things she'd been taught defined your self worth. So why did her mother love Zuko? It probably never made any sense to her. And her father and grandfather, two very important and domineering men, had told her that she had to be worth something to be loved.
Yeah, I agree Azula's self worth is wrapped up in her abilities and accomplishments and when she loses the agni kai she completely loses it. She's my favorite character from the series and a "villain" I can't help but to empathize with.
What if they had made an episode in which slade swear to kill everyone robin loves or once loved, beast boy , cyborg, raven, and starfire die, but star fire's death was iconic and reminded robin of his past as she fell of a cliff while saving him and was screaming his name just like mary did while falling. Plot twist slade knows how attached robin is to bruce( slade knows that bruce is batman) and threatens robin to kill bruce. Now robin is on his way to gotham city to warn bruce during which he goes through an accident but still does not give up hopes and finally reaches batcave. He somehow enters it with his bike, bruce is sitting on his chair, superman and a few others who know Bruce's identity are there. Robin sees him and gives a sigh of relief and faints there, bruce is shook. Robin wakes up, sees bruce on his side and bursts out crying. Bruce hugs him and says- 'son, everything will be ok , im here for you, we'll go through it together.
I mean it's a cool head cannon and all but if slade can't even handle the teen titans something tells me that there's no way he could go against batman and I feel robin would know that too making the threat to kill batman not that effective
I agree on the selfconfidence and loving part. But what i didn’t see anywhere is the way they see love and the world when they are young and old. When they are young, they are so much more full of life, more moving of everyting (flying, running, fast eating, and so on) while when Sophie and the Witch of the waste are older, everything is mich slower, loving the quiet (sitting aside the lake, she also says that she ‘enjoys the quiet’ or something in that line for example) and are much more focused on the heart (literally in the movie), while it’s the heart that moves the whole castle (eg the person) and gives live (the casle, Howl, Witch of the waste). We also see it when calcifer is being fed by different stuff (Sophie’s hair, the blob worm), or when he doesn’t getting attention and starts to being burnt up. I don’t know dude, just my idea.
THEY MAKE ME WANNA CRY OH MY GOOOD this was so good ishidnisndidn as you said with your own sophie, im waiting for the day i find my howl im like sophie in a way, i strive for others to say good things about me because if they dont i feel worthless ive tried focusing on myself lately and ill wait as long as it takes
The usual drivel: "You need to love yourself before you love others or receive love from them" Bla bla bla yada yada yada. I don't even know what that means. All I know is: man is a social animal and man yearns for thymos.
just not what the movie is about. and nobody in the movie is insecure, howl is for like 1 scene because the drama that the main character brings in to his life sways him from his former ways. what is it with people trying to see messages in everything when there is no message. if you actually watched the movie instead of linking everything to your broken mind maybe you would not be insecure in the first place.
IKR! I thought I was the only one, this guy sucks. Like he believes art has subjective meaning everyone knows art is meaningless with no messages. and he's SO insecure I mean nothing says insecure like making uplifting videos on RU-vid, I bet he leaves negative comments on RU-vid videos just to make himself feel better too. what a loser. literally unwatchable, dislike
not really a negative comment, its subjective as you would say. who the fuck watches a movie once then starts making shit up about it. is that also how you evaluate taught's? they just come and go right ,you accept anything that goes in. i think i could show you a film that is about hitler and you would subjectively say it is about friendship. i did not dislike your vid and never said it was unwatchable. just shows your insecurity but subjectively you would beg to differ right ?
I loved the series and this episode was amazing, creepy, but still amazing. Wish you could talk about Love, Death & Robots in general or any episode that captured your attention in a future video :)
funny you say that, I really wanna make another video on Love, Death & Robots but Netflix is super strict with their content even when it's fair use. I originally had a video essay for this episode too but Netflix threatened me with a copyright strike so I had to take it down. I'll try again tho cuz there's so much to talk about with this series
@@spphrmedia I didn't know that information but I guess it makes sense that they are so careful with their content. Anyway any creator should be free to discuss their productions. It's very sad you had to take it down. Hope you can find a way to show your thoughts on this series again :) I'll be waiting for it.
thanks for the feedback, it's a balancing act, you want an intro long enough and interesting enough to grab the viewer, but not so long that it feels drawn out
I love this movie, as I’ve loved any kind of “beauty and the beast” themed story. As a Christian, these stories always reminds me that despite my failings or insecurities, Jesus has and will always love me. I pray for that salvation and love for everyone! 😊💜🙌✝️
its always hilarious when someone makes a sweeping statement that a movie based off manga and games, destroyed women. did this movie/art have such a hold on ppl to affect them in such a way? maybe. or its just identifying transforming social norms that go against the status quo
yeah, I tend to agree with the idea that's it's just identifying transforming social norms, just to be clear I wasn't agreeing with or saying Scott pilgrim ruined a whole generation of women just pointing out that it's part of the dialog when this movie is brought up
@@spphrmedia oh yeah. I knew you were reading off the article. not your personal opinion. should have clarified that. sorry about that. I honestly didn't know this how it got reviewed/seen. I just thought it didn't do well in the box office. so I was thinking how many women did it actually reach when it feels like its marketed towards young boys/men. I really liked the video bc that scene where he gets the sword of love vs sword of self respect confused me when I first watched it. I understood it was a big moment. but didn't fully get it. thanks for making the video.
Thank you for this presentation. I grew up needing high prescription glasses that made my eyes look big and always hated it since a boy made fun of me in elementary school. Recently as an adult, my soft contacts tore (even my backups) so I was forced to wear my glasses. The thing is these glasses at the time I received them were new of course only my nephew who is autistic scratched them cause he liked the way it looked. So I’m wearing my glasses and have finally accepted myself truly. My coworkers accepted me and a young woman accepted me. It’s pretty cool. Years ago I prayed to God to help me accept myself in general. Now I’m chilling lol
I actually had a hunch abt Rumi being the villain since the beginning of the movie (probably because i had the idea of envy in my head while wathing it) and felt really proud of myself because i dont usually get anything right! Awesome video nevertheless
