Structure Fishing follows the teachings of Buck Perry. Buck is known as the father of modern day fishing and the daddy of structure fishing. Buck is the one that coined the words Structure, breaks and breaklines. Buck was the first to discuss how weather (the cold front) affected fish movements and migrations. Structure Fishing TV show is the MOST educational show on TV! www.structurefishing.com
I went fishing and the only thing I did catch one perch but it was small. We caught like 40 gobies. I don’t know what happened with the perch. The perch are gone (my opinion). Before Chicago was way better. Instead of gobies. It was jumbo perch.
Well there wasn’t anyone out there because it’s a lowkey tournament spot! That’s why you don’t see reports about it!!! Now because of videos like this it’s over ran by many people and the fish are so scared and spooky, plus no where near as many fish on the island!!! Thanks for blowing up a lowkey bite:(. Now all the A hole meat hunters can go and take em all away! No wonder why the walleye population is dropping rapidly on greenbay the past 5 years!
In your experience are walleye willing to come up and hit a suspending lure, or do you really need to be down there amongst the timber. I’m considering replacing my treble hooks with light wire Aberdeen hooks.
@@StructureFishing Thanks for the info, we recently bought one of those empty lots and have been doing a lot of camping on the land, just getting to know the lake, lots to explore!
@@Himes26 Good luck! We just fished Petenwell a few weeks ago. It was my first summer time walleye trip in 5 years there. Check out my son's channel, Fishcraft. He posted that video. Focus on the channel breaklines.
I just moved by lake Shelbyville, and have been fishing out of my kayak, and can't for the life of me hook up on a walleye. I've probably spent 40+ hours on the lake. How fast do I need to be trolling you seem to be going very fast. I've been using bottom bouncers going around 1 mph and hour. Then deep diving cranks 1.5 to 2 MPH. Should you troll parallel to the drop off or zig zag the drop off?
Mostly I think it's the time of the year - late summer. The bite is tougher, but you can still get them. Doesn't sound like your doing anything wrong. Just focus on structure (breaklines). The structure at point 6 area should be good, as well as some others.
Once again thank you for the breakdown on Clinton Lake. I enjoy all your structure videos and fishing knowledge, This lake is only 13 miles from me so I fish it quite often.
I follow you on FB and accidently stumbled across your RU-vid video. This was an excellent presentation and explanation of structure locations on Shelbyville Lake. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Hi Jim, hope all is well. Your vids are great! Have a question.I have never owned a depth finder what would be your recommendation for one to spoonplug with?
I personally have not tried to catch perch in the summer months out there, but I see a lot of reports that they are catching them at all the harbors. It can be tough to find a school, but when you do they're going to be pretty good size ones.
Hey Jim i caught the heck out of fish then they shut off. They move to deeper water say 18 ft i use a crankbait that dives 25 to 30 ft just go super slow with a short line just ticking bottom can produce fish virtually all day long. The reason I didn't use a spoon plug the speed is too slow.
Great job Jim. Very exciting finding a school ! That doesn't happen very often - I've been watching your sons videos too. Did he get a ranger boat. I see him fishing out of one but never saw him mention it.
Hey hope your doing well. I'm having trouble on deciding to buy a boat and motor I'm trying to spoonplug with my own stuff but never bout a boat and motor I've always just had to rent a boat in some places depending on were you live and a lot of places did not allow a gas motor on a lake. Then I moved somewhere else and where I live allows a gas motor but doesn't rent boat so I was looking to buy something that doesn't break the bank and gives me the trolling speeds so my question is I like the bass riders or pelican boats because the size it's not big but the motor is a question to will a 4hp work for the speed control I mean I know it won't go 10 mph like when don Dickson showed that clip but my thing is when I was trolling and catching fish most of the time I had 4hp on a Jon and going half the speed. If any is doing this combo I would really like some info cause I'm thinking about really putting a 5.5 HP motor on a pelican boat just so I have a little more speed to get to my fishing areas slightly faster and have speed control. Like for instance I'll give a idea there's a lot of pelican boats on fb marketplace and motors but the motors are vintage Johnson's like 30s and 40s but they are only 2-3 HP and heavy but I saw on the Internet and hankai motors there little bit cheaper but not hurt you back so what's the best way to go is any one trying this combo
In the springtime even before the ice is melted they lower Castle Rock quite a bit for the springtime water flow. We didn't really have any a few years ago so last summer was the lowest the Wisconsin River had been in the thirty years my parents lived below Castle Rock. My boss fished an area on Lake Wisconsin that they called "the narrows" I think during the fall sturgeon season. It was where the lake first opened up at the northern end. He could tell by the riffles in the surface where to cast. He fished the lake for at least forty years. He caught a buffalo one time that was the state record at one time. He had the DNR boat weigh it and then threw it back because he didn't want to eat it so it was never registered. They beat his fish less than five years later
If you show a fishing license, you can park for cheap at Navy pier, you just have to be out by 9 or 10. Summer used to be the best time for perch, but it seems like they have changed to a winter bite.
Lived in Shelbyville my entire life and spent countless hours on lake Shelbyville. Moved to FL in 2020. Man I miss living in Shelbyville and spending time on the lake.
Lived in Illinois all my life and I would say it's the worst state in the nation for fishing , big thing is no where near enough hatcheries which is really 1 hatchery... pathetic!!!!!
