I use this video with my students to prepare them for a service learning project. We are wondering where they are now and how they are doing. Any updates would be greatly appreciated.
So how has womens rights helped women that wanted to be independent raising their kids with no father around. Their is something to be said for a loving family unit. Why try to do it all when you can't even feed your kids.
Go after their father for child support!!!!! He was very happy when he put those babies inside of you, consequences are there for him also, they put babies n don't appreciate the fact you gave him sex n baby, go after him!!!!!!!!
It doesn't take much for someone to get behind on bills and it leaves you stuck, it can be something like someone getting sick or your car breaking down, paying to have a car fixed can set you back a couple of months.
I lived in Scottsdale, AZ some years back and one Saturday, my neighbor asked if I could give 3 of them a ride to the local church food bank. I gladly took them, stopping off at my local Circle K for my 99 cent coffee refill. When we got to the church, the parking lot was pretty full, and I notice a LOT of newer high dollar cars there and I figured they were the volunteers, but NOPE, MOST WERE THERE FOR THE FREE HANDOUTS. Wow. I thought that was pretty interesting and as I am standing there with my neighbors, I notice that over 90% of the people in line were sipping their Starbucks ($8.00 and up per cup) and I was there with my 99 cent Circle K coffee. I kind of stood behind the line and the guy at the beginning of the line taking down names and info and called me over and handed me a box and told me to go down the line and get what I needed. I explained, I was fine, just bringing my neighbors up since they didn't have a car. He insisted and said they had plenty and would not take no for an answer, so I joined and picked up a few things and another volunteer said "that's not enough" and added a bunch more over my protests. I accepted the food and tried to leave a $10.00 donation and they refused to accept it. I was working at a decent job and was doing OK. I felt guilty taking the food, but figured what I couldn't use, I would give to some friends that I know were having a tough time. It gripes me to see people with fancy newer cars, sucking down a Starbucks coffee and many had a cigarette stuck in their gobs also. I am now retired and moved to another state and donate what I can to a local food pantry. I used some of my stimulus money to get clothing, socks, toiletries etc as we have a fair amount of homeless people here and I figure just because you are having a rough patch or are homeless, you still want to brush your teeth and have soap and deodorant. And it' sad because the woman who runs the program told me they have people who USED to donate regularly are now there to get a food box. This shouldn't be happening.
OK. First question: Where the baby daddy??????? He was man enough to do the 20 second pump and dump. Did he cheat and leave? If he's not deceased he needs to step up and pay for his kids. I am so disgusted with men like that. Second question: Where is your church? I noticed the cross around her neck. Why isn't her church helping her? The pound their chests and pontificate DON'T HAVE AN ABORTION. SPIT THEM KIDS OUT. Oh, by the way, you're on your own now.
Boyfriend / husband should be ashamed if he refuses to provide for the family. This is why jobs exist...to give people a sense of purpose in life (and to please God).
"As long as we have enough I am happy. That's all you really need." Wisdom of a child. So many, like this mom, delay or never go to a food pantry because they are embarrassed. But that is what it is there for. If no one ever went, it wouldn't exist. If the pantry was giving out money instead, would you still be embarrassed? How about a free voucher that paid your utilities for the month? That's where our taxes go - to help people in need. I always encourage people to use the food banks. Once you have done it, it isn't a big deal.
the common denominator between all these poor families is no father. In most cases these women sleep with some man that wasn't their husband got pregnant and now the man left them because they aren't worth having as a wife. Now the kids are going to pay for their lack of self control. This seem to be a problem with poor people. no discipline lack of self control always blaming others for their problems. sad They need to keep their legs shut clothes on and then they won't have kids they can't afford.
I agree with others here that they need to grow their own food - in pots, on windowsills if they have no garden. Buy a potato grow-bag and you will have a rotating crop. A packet of seeds costs next to nothing and lasts ages. Also, to make extra income, look to collect 'free' articles others no longer want - look online at websites such as Gumtree and Craigs List. Sell on for profit. Check items on pavements/sidewalks that people throw out - just sell on, eg household items, baby items. Try fundraising with local parents or schools to make money to feed the children at school, at church, playgroup etc. There are lots of ways to make extra income. I've been there and I know it's possible to do this. Very sad to see children go hungry and I wish them good luck in future.
How on earth could any parent let their kids go hungry? I know most jobs pay very low wages but find a second job if that's what it takes to feed your kids.
My parents made decent money and still let me go hungry. 😆 My mom was too drunk to make my brother and me lunch and my dad was too cheap to give us $1.50 to eat at school, so I was hungry every day and now I watch videos like this and feel the pain of my elementary school days.
I was raised by my grand parents since I was eight months old . My mother was single with five kids, and was on welfare. My grandpa was a longer and had seven kids to feed. So there was no wasting food. Grandpa also had a garden that was pretty big, and every year my uncle's would go deer hunting. So we never were with out .
Ahhh... How sad is that. Poor kids . no kid should feel hungry like that . we take for granted little things like food . some kids has to worry n we dont even finish our plates. Ive always known there are kids that go hungry but to see it . its heart breaking. I need to donate more .
I hate to go to school with a home lunch because I don't like my sandwich and my parents can't do nothing about it and I got skinner and if I have home lunch I only have sandwich, yogurt and juice 😦
I understand parents fall on hard times but I feel like this mother is failing in the case of her own 8 year saying "I'm like a mother" That's sad a child should never feel like they have to act like a parent.
I know this i going to sound bad but dont have kids if you cant afford to. In the finace world the lender runs you credit witch gives them a glimps of how responsible you live life. How and why the fck do people do this to themselves. Yes they need help and yes you should help them but ultimately you're harming the longterm situation because they will most likely repeat themselves and teach the young to do the same. This planet is over populated as it is when will stupid people get it. like all wildlife and nature without a natural predator populations will go Haywire in this case humanity is our natural enemy.
The problem mainly is not the families of the children at home but it is the school cafeterias serving food either not nutritious enough or simply of an unsatisfactory quantity. I went to a Catholic school which served extremely minimal portions for years and I am sure there were many other schools, both public and private, that did the same thing.
God bless these kids🙏🏼 I had a few kids at my school that where extremely poor and they had never been in an airplane before and never thought they would ever be and we took them for a flight and they had he best time of their lives

:25, I remember some young African boys who's mom would try to feed them at a certain time in the evening so that they might sleep thru the night. That way, they'd have something to eat the next day. This is America? Wasn't the president suppose to bring "change"?
while I much sympathy for her I grew up with little money, BUT never knew it.. parents should never allow a child to know about the house hold finances ever.."we don't have money for food,," should NEVER come out a child mouth..
cathy Tuttle I completely agree! My parents had little money when raising me and my siblings. We never knew that till we got older, we were never hungry and always had clothes on our backs but sometimes they couldn't pay the bills. I understand people fall on hard times but kids this little shouldn't have that pressure on them to not say anything about being hungry. I understand being honest with a child but I think In this case it will make a child feel like it's their fault.
I remembered that when my kids were little all our money went to rent I could not work because daycare was so expensive it was cheaper to be home with them and my husband would work instead .He had two jobs most of the time but one time he got sick and he lost hes jobs and he got one that paid by commission all we had for a month and all we ate was the food pantry food .But we did not go hungry !
Can parents get creative and buy peanut butter and if you make your own bread at home it cost only pennies!!!make a rule if you still hungry after dinner you can have peanut butter toast .That is what we used to do with our kids .my parents would make me eat a slice of bread with my dinner so we would get full.Have a garden in the summer ,put the harvest in the freezer .There are ways to make it .I grew up with a single parent my brother and I and we never felt hungry.My mom on her only day off she would make soups with left overs veggies ,many casseroles .Well we have to think outside the box get creative ect. When I grew up and my kids were little we ate a lot of pasta but we survived !!!
Food should be bought at the beginning of the month, right after the rent and utilities are paid. By the end of the month, a dollar here, a dollar there, eats away at what you have. Don't put off food to the end. And find ways to make every nickel work for you in your food buying.
I know how she feels this is what I do I get to super soup bowls they cost me $0.48 apiece I split them in half and that's enough to feed 5 people for less than $1 and it feels you up shopping cheap and shopping smart
no one should be ashamed asking for help for food it is something you need to live we live in a land of plenty there is no greater joy they sharing your blessings
