Fun fact: when Hugh sang this at his audition for Lestat (he had never worked on this song before), apparently either Bernie or Elton came up to him afterwards and said that how Hugh sang it was EXACTLY how he pictured it to be sung. Lestat had SO much potential. So did Dance of the Vampires. I say we should revive both, and rework them to be better (in the case of Dance of the Vampires, making it closer to the original version than the other one was).

I am actually a major Rice fan and love this series. I got to see the live production of this in San Francisco. I adored this song! However, the musical was just too long and they didn't make it very interesting. I stayed for the whole thing, but it was tough. Anyone who isn't intimately familiar with the books would be totally lost. They tried to tell too much of the back story. As a mega-fan, it even got a little boring for me. Which makes me sad. With a little editing, it could have been awesome.

This is the only song I've heard from this musical that comes close to expressing the emotional mood and verbal character of the original material, in my opnion. Hugh Panaro sings wonderfully.
I don't think that Anne Rice's novels lend themselves well to the form of a Broadway musical. I think that the music, despite being by the wonderful Sir Elton John, is cheesy in the context of the story. Also, Lestat is pronounced "Leh-STAHT," not "Leh-STAT" with a short English "a." However, Hugh Panaro has a fine voice.
Well , I believe Lestat learnt this from his father. It is quite similar to Gabrielle’s marriage to his father. She did not want to get married and had kids. Lestat made sure Louis did not leave him by having a kid with Louis. And I am sure that Gabrielle felt trapped in her own marriage the same way Louis did with Lestat

It's a really long story...you can read the book and i must to say that Anne rice's vampires are the best they aren't some emo romantic brats like modern vampires. Her books is in classic style. And now about the video...in the second book lestat met armand and did something that armand's group turned against him and so armand forced to destroy them. Lestat wanted leave Paris for travel around the world, armand who became alone and confused about that things begged lestat to love him and became his friend he wanted lestat let him to travel together but lestat refused. many years later lestat who was burned by claudia and louis ( you can see it in interview with the vampire movie ) went to armand and begged him to gave him his powerful blood but armand who had hatred for lestat all those years refused and pushed him down from castle wall....all bones of lestat were broke.
