Ladies, Gentlemen, Boys, Girls and fellow Fishin' Accomplices...Welcome... to fishing! My name is Dan, and this is my channel!
I am a full time NYCDOE public high school teacher, and passionate recreational fisherman.... and not necessarily in that order! I have been fishing for as long as I can remember: Fresh, salt, brackish... Lake, River, Ocean, Pond... it doesn't matter! As I pursue the next catch, I will do my best to bring you an entertaining snapshot of my life, as I continually get some... Fishin' accomplished!
Thank you for visiting, and a special BIG THANK YOU for liking the videos and SUBSCRIBING!
For what it's worth, John Skinner did a color test on spoons. White and chartreuse out fished chrome for stripers. White has a slight advantage over chartreuse. He also did it with diamond jigs, black and white worked better then chrome. For whatever reason stripers aren't into chrome as much as other colors.
Great videos! I fish the same area; I'm out of Howard Beach in Jamaica Bay. I'm a School Psychologist so I have the summer off too. See you on the water!
I agree that Sea Robin is definitely palatable! Here on Long Island Sound they can get pretty large - definitely a worthwhile by-catch to bring home - and no limits!
Great session dude! Nice striper to end the video off. Really digging the drink reviews lol. Do you do any live lining with mackerel during the summer months for striper? I am wanting to do that soon here in PEI, Canada!
We have been getting upwelling that’s cooling the ocean off in NJ. I assume your south shore is effected also. You said the sound is about 74° I guess the upwelling doesn’t effect the sound?
Yeah, it was weird, that 74 was right in the middle of the heatwave… I went back in a few days later and it was back down to 65 so I’m not totally sure what to make of it!
Not so much anymore… I’m not a huge fan of the shore options that are close to where I live, and most is the time, if I’m going to travel distance to fish, I’d prefer to launch the kayak
Love the channel Dan, keep up the great work. I’m in western Nassau and looks like we fish the same spots. I’m always looking for a buddy to go out with so let me know if you’d like to some time.👍🏻
Awesome! Thanks for the kind words! I would fish more on the Island side, but I find that parking gets tricky once you cross over the Queens/Nassau line, particularly on the North Shore side!
Yeah, I noticed some birds working what appeared to be some schools of sandeels in some VERY shallow water on the way in... perhaps I was still out a bit too deep
Nice Greg! Yeah, there should be some really good fluke action around there this time of year! My schedule is pretty tight this next week or so, but once July hits I’ll be fishing a lot more! Hope to see you out there!
I don't know how you just do it... you're a champion💪, I fished on Sunday between bridges... 6 hours and I only caught 2 fish 😅 Something is wrong with me 😂 great video 😍🔥👏
Thanks! Yeah, I suppose I was partially in the right place at the right time! There were certainly some stretches where I was struggling to find any fish! Glad you’re still going after them!
Great question! Honestly, when I first got my hobie, I didn’t have a fish finder. However, after some time, I purchased one. It’s a huge help, especially for fluke fishing! When the bite is localized, sometimes your best bet is to hit the same price of bottom again and again. Or better yet, it’s really helpful if you’re trying to target very localized structure!
Replace that net with an EGO S1. It’s a little expensive, but the main thing is it floats. Also you can choose the length of the handle, and the size and the type of net.
Eh, hard to say… I suppose it really depends what kind of bite you are dealing with. I’m beginning to think gulp works better when you take longer drifts, and you are more in the process of trying to find fish. Meanwhile, procure is nice when you KNOW there are fish under you, but maybe they’re a bit more on the picky side. Either can work well if used in the right scenario.
